Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: Allah willed to test three men: a leper, a blind man, and a bald-headed man. So He sent an angel to each of them. -To the leper, the angel asked what he desired most. The leper wished for good color and good skin because people avoided him. The angel touched him, and he was cured and given beautiful skin. When asked what kind of property he wanted, he requested camels (or cows). The angel gave him a pregnant she-camel and blessed it. -To the bald-headed man, the angel asked the same. He wished for good hair and to be cured of his condition. The angel touched him, and he was cured. When asked about property, he requested cows. The angel gave him a pregnant cow and blessed it. -To the blind man, the angel asked what he wanted most. He wished for his eyesight to be restored so he could see people. The angel touched his eyes, and his sight was restored. When asked about property, he requested sheep. The angel gave him a pregnant sheep. All three animals multiplied greatly, filling valleys with their offspring. Later, the angel, disguised as a poor traveler, approached each man asking for a gift to help him on his journey. The leper refused, claiming his wealth was inherited. The angel warned him that if he lied, Allah would return him to his former state. The bald-headed man also refused with the same excuse and was warned similarly. The blind man welcomed the traveler, acknowledging Allah’s blessings and allowing him to take whatever he needed. The angel then revealed the test: Allah was pleased with the blind man and angry with the other two. (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 56, Hadith 670) Lessons Derived from the Story 1. Gratitude and Humility: True gratitude to Allah is shown by generosity and kindness to others, especially those in need. The blind man’s willingness to share his blessings reflects sincere thankfulness. 2. Avoiding Arrogance and Stinginess: The leper and bald-headed man’s refusal, coupled with their false claims of inheritance, shows arrogance and ingratitude, which displeases Allah. 3. Testing of Blessings: Wealth and health are tests from Allah. How one uses these blessings—whether selfishly or charitably—determines one’s standing before Allah. 4. Sincerity in Faith: The blind man’s recognition that his blessings come from Allah and his readiness to help others demonstrate sincere faith and submission. 5. Allah’s Pleasure and Anger: Allah’s pleasure is earned through good character and generosity, while arrogance and selfishness incur His anger. 6. Helping the Needy: The story emphasizes the importance of supporting travelers and the poor, reflecting a key Islamic value. This hadith beautifully encapsulates the relationship between divine blessings, human responsibility, and moral character. It teaches that true faith is demonstrated not only by receiving Allah’s favors but by using them with gratitude, generosity, and sincerity. The story encourages Muslims to be humble, charitable, and mindful of their duties toward others, especially those in need. May Allah grant us understanding! |

This story borrows heavily from a much older Jewish story in the Talmud, specifically the Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 98b, involving Rabbi Joshua ben Levi and Elijah. |

If only you can have a pure heart A pure heart always seeking and giving love A heart that has no single hatred for any human. A heart that makes peace with all men. A heart that provides for the needs of all men that need. A heart that seeks the happiness of every other human. A heart that gives love for hate and peace for violence. If only you can have this type of heart without Jesus. |

True. Even in the hadith collection it is referred to as a hadith of the three men from the Children of Israel. They really loved plagiarising from Jewish Rabbinic literature which is not even divinely inspired. BlackViper: |

The Jewish religious scholars known as Rabbis have two books called the Babylonian Talmud and the Jerusalem Talmud. They are full of religious discussions and fairy tales called "aggadot." The Rabbis who compiled these books lived hundreds of years before Muhammad was born. The Talmud is not regarded as divinely inspired. It is just a collection of fables and fairy tales. Many of these fairy tales somehow ended up in the Koran as the word of Allah. Sirmwill: |

BlackViper:I could only laugh at your folly. The Prophet SAW was unfettered, so how could he possibly know what was writing in the Jewish Books written hundred of years before he was even born. Meanwhile, Al Qur’an is Ummul Kitab(Mother of All Books) which simply means it came to clarify and affirm what was revealed in the previous Books. And unfortunately for you, what OP posted was a Hadith not verses of the Qur’an. |

People and quran itself testifies that the book is full of old fables disguised as revelations (Quran 16:24) And when it is said to them, “What has your Lord revealed?” They say, “Ancient fables!” We have already been promised this, as well as our forefathers earlier. This is nothing but ancient fables!” (quran 68:15) إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ١٥ whenever Our revelations are recited to him, he says, “Ancient fables!” Whenever Our revelations are recited to them, they challenge ˹you˺, “We have already heard ˹the recitation˺. If we wanted, we could have easily produced something similar. This ˹Quran˺ is nothing but ancient fables!” And they say, “˹These revelations are only˺ ancient fables which he has had written down, and they are rehearsed to him morning and evening.” There are some of them who ˹pretend to˺ listen to your recitation ˹of the Quran˺, but We have cast veils over their hearts—leaving them unable to comprehend it—and deafness in their ears. Even if they were to see every sign, they still would not believe in them. The disbelievers would ˹even˺ come to argue with you, saying, “This ˹Quran˺ is nothing but ancient fables!” |
