ofcourse traders earn their money on a daily basis....compared to the corporate workers who accumulate debts before month end 👍
You are very correct. Most of these traders or business people earn far more than the so called corporate jobs we all want to do because we hve been deceived by the so called school scam, which renders our brain into slavery mood. When that professor in ABSU said a keke man earns more than a professor you all criticize him, but truth is he was speaking the truth. in this shithole we all hate the truth.

This here is the answer!

Different standard of living... Plus the schools corporate ladies send their children to and associated activities aren't the same as with market women.

This is what I keep saying and preaching on a daily bases.

This is the beauty of the Nigerian Business space, only the wise knows Whatzup

When people come online and say 500K cannot feed them in a week here on Nairaland and a Salary of 1 Million is too small to feed a family of four currently in Nigeria, I LAUGH MY STOMACH OUT. They don't know Nigeria are surviving in their own way.

If you know how much this traders and farmers earn you will be shocked, If you see some of their bank account you might run mad. My Aunty who is a Senior Civil Defense officer said when they were given sudden layoff from her Bank job many years ago, after they were paid off, She took her money to buy Civil Defense job, while her friend and colleague used her own money to start hoarding and warehousing business.

SHE SAID HER FRIEND CURRENTLY CAN PAY HER (AS A CIVIL DEFENSE OFFICER) HER 6 MONTH SALARY AND SHE WON'T EVEN NOTICE THAT SUCH AMOUNT LEFT HER BANK ACCOUNT

I know someone who used Chewing stick business to build his own personal house and another for rent, and have train his 3 graduates and the rest are still in school. I know a rice trader, Panel Beater, Welder, Carpenter etc who are living in their own personal house and training their children with money from their business.

I left big white-collar jobs and am still getting offers currently, But I CAN NEVER GO BACK TO IT AGAIN, Shaa Business is not easy but it is still bae and need adequate patience, tolerance, prayers and also strong mind.

Note: Business is not for everyone ooo. If you are not ready to cry once a while avoid it grin grin grin

May God help us

The simple lesson here is to simply LEARN TO LIVE BELOW YOUR MEANS

If you can live in one room face me I face with your two children and wife, eat anything for food, wear trash for clothes, then you can save up and send anyone through university selling just pepper.

But at the end of it all, your life would have moved fast, and you were not part of it because you were under rain and sun trying to save for children school fees.

Live within your means, but live. Purposeful delayed gratification is important, but must be balanced. At the end you have one life, you must try and live. Not for the public but for yourself.

If you can't send your child to uni, send them to a trade school. Find a successful handyman, merchant, and attach them to. Make sure you give them valuable skills.

There's always the flip side to things...hence the duality of life
The market women economics would be better understood by those who left the corporate world for trading.

And yes, people should live life. Life isn't just paying school fees...

No let anybody whine you o. It's always greener on the other side. Market woman, market woman, go and seat down in that market for 24 hours and see if you won't run mad.

I worked for 15yrs, earned averagely, look good drive company car and everyone thinks am doing well. I get invited to every occasion. They didn't know I was struggling financially and just trying to keep up with the jonses.

I lost the job and started business. I now earn average of 500k but still look poor. People still think am broke as hell but I pay all bills without stress.

I can't even imagine 9 - 5 again unless under contract or commission based.

Could you please share the data set you referenced for this claim.

Would most equal over 80%? Or just over 50% of all entrepreneurs huh

by the way, did you include Remi Tinubu's akara sellers, those who are obliged to go into this empowerment because her husband failed to create 50 million jobs promised.
By February 2027, you will be out of job on Nairaland, because your oga Atiku would have dispensed of your service, having finished his long sojourn in Nigeria dirty political waters, to finally retire to Dubai.

Meanwhile keep up the heat, you may still win one or two undecided converts on Nairaland.

You forgotten that some of these women have husbands supporting them. Secondly, not all of them are telling the truth. Thirdly, you can't compare the past economy to this present one where the Naira has been greatly devalued. In Davido's voice, they will feel it. Even market women are feeling it now. grin

This is real deep o .... I've been thinking about this for some time now. But as corporate people, we can't afford to live in the conditions these market women live and truth be told, it is rubbing on us financially.
Then our systems are not as strong and resilient as that of the market people. We will develop illnesses if we try to live in their conditions.
Oga what are you talking about... Develop which illness?,... So if you cut your coat according to your size illness will now catch you abi?.

At this time yes, this will have to be true.

This is because there has been a shift in our economy.

Tinubu came in and floated the naira. This would mean that He made the currency assume its value; the value it naturally would, if there was no oil in the economy. As a result, purchasing power of the people reduced. Entrepreneurs such as these pepper sellers upped their markets and the gains they would make, so that they would compensate for this fall in naira. In other words, if a market woman was content with taking home 150k per month before, She would then increase/spread the value on Her goods so that She can now take home 600k instead. This helps Her cushion the effect of those policies.

But the salary earner may be limited in how he can increase. To be very honest, graduate jobs today should pay 900k for entry level graduates, but this might not be possible. Their companies may not earn in dollars!

This is what caused the discrepancy today.
In Nigeria, There were a lot of an average salary earners earning N50,000 monthly as far back as Year 2012.

In Nigeria, there are still lot of an average salary earners earning same N50,000 monthly TODAY.

Personally, I know some people who works in Nigeria Telecom Sector who are in Supervision Role earning this N50,000 monthly TODAY.

People who earn N50,000 monthly are also 9-5ers and the funny thing is they are in the majority of salary earners.

Most traders sacrifice their social life and luxury lifestyle, ensuring they have enough funds to sponsor their children’s education anywhere.
I disagree on this
Most market women are the life of the party.
They wear the latest clothes it could be just Ankara and lace and nice jewelry.
Far better than 9-5ers.

Irony of life. that is how they have been brainwashed. Honestly their is nothing wrong in going to school as a matter of fact it is very good and the best thing parents can give to their kids. but funny enough school brainwashed people into looking for 9 -5 as the holy grail for survival.

Poverty is relative, there are people who earn 1m monthly but still consider themselves poor, lifestyle, responsibilities, ambition etc while their are some earning less but consider themselves not poor.......I know a woman that just grinds pepper other stuff while her husband rides okada, they now live in their own house, trained about 2 kids through university, set the eldest up in tailoring trade while the last one still in secondary school.

This are your regular Joe guys you can't think much of while there are those wearing tie and suit every morning who are struggling to even get to the end of the month .
If you calculate how much these traders Keke riders make in a month then you will know that they earn more than you 9-5 guys. I have opened a KEKE business before and trust me the KEKE guys makes up to N30K daily driving from 7 to 6 PM, that's approximately N900K monthly, they only get to balance me N10K daily because it is my KEKE but if they are the owners you see how they can easily make N900K monthly and yet they still look tattered and live in batchers house, but you will see most 9-5 guys earning just N150K and you will think they are better than these guys. Just in your spare time try and visit one of these Keke drivers or even Keke bus drvers and also Bolts drivers and ask them on average how much they take home daily after they have removed their expenses on fuel and other car expenses and i tell you will be shocked, most of them do not know how much they earn monthly but they know how much they earn daily and you should do the math.

If tomato sellers and Keke riders make so much money, why do their kids hardly attend good schools?

9-5ers has grade the same way traders also have grades. Majority of 9-5ers earn between N50K to N150K per month. even some in the so called oil and gas do not earn more than N300K, i can comfortable say this because i have been in the 9-5 oil and gas yes some earn in millions far better than the Keke drivers and co, but can you compare them to those Igbo traders in IKOKU, Alaba and co selling spare parts. even your top oil and gas 9-5ers cannot be come to those traders, so what are we saying?

Company sponsor their travel and conference without paying them adequately for it. i have been in that position before, and oil and gas company sent me to Lagos to work in 2014, lodged me in a 5 star hotel in Victoria island, i was signing monthly hotel bills over N1.5M monthly and my salary was just N400K. these companies know what they are doing, they are evil and they try to keep you all comfortable in the rat race and as soon as the job ends or you retire you will find out that you never achieved anything meaningful with your life and you will find it very hard to maintain that same current lifestyle the company has exposed you to.
