Re: Can We A North Nigeria And South Nigeria As Independent Countries? by tuoyoojo(m):
Nigeria is too fragmented to be divided into just north and south.
North due to it religion is slightly homogeneous

The south on the other hand is the time bomb

South who first divide into South west, south south and south East

Of this, south west is more homogeneous

South south would fragment into tiny clan like settlement

The division within the south East would become more prominent. Anambra may not seem eye to eye with imo. Ebonyi may want there separate country. Akwa ibom and rivers would not want to be co-opted into south East

The thing go bloody small

Awo never committed to Ojukwu stop distorting facts(show proof), notice how you cunningly side stepped the fact when I mentioned that Ojukwu and his co-travelers met Awo in prison and left him there, but somehow you people felt he should still hold Ojukwu in high esteem. Stop hallucinating the bokoharam and kidnapping is not limited to Nigeria and besides they have done worst in the east.

Capital NO.

Our strength as a nation is the unity of all the regions
What unity are you talking about. the grasing of Fulani cow in the South, the killing and displacement of minority in the North and the bandit and terrorism coming down south.

What unity exist among regions?

It is only a shallow mind that would be comfortable with the present configuration of Nigeria.

The South is sitting on a keg f gun powder and we have failed to realised that culturally the North and the South are anthetical.

In 50 years time if the South didn't change the status quo, the entire South will be over in.

An average SE person marry at the age of 45, an average SW give birth to 2 kids, compared to the northerner who marry many wives at 16 and have more than 10 children.

If democracy still remains the form of government, in 50 years, it will only be the north that can produce the president and Sharia will be spread across Southern Nigeria while they use their growing population to conquer you.

To buttress this point, why is it that herdmen are still grazing in the city despite anti grassing law of different states? This is just a tip of what the South should expect if there's no structural restructuring.

The war to your doorstep was an offense to play defense strategy. Nobody had the permanent intention to take your land or whatever you're insinuating. It was intended as a route to get to the capital. No way we could get to the capital without crossing the west. The West could have declared neutrality if their intentions were good for the Igbos offering safe passage.
How do you intend to take the capital without causing collateral damage to the SW that host the capital?

Talking about betrayal, go and read your history, the father of betrayal emanated from the SE.

Maybe you didn't know NCNC was formed by a Yoruba man, Herbert Macauley, but what didn't Azikwe did when the baton was passed to him? He came for SW, replacing VC in the SW University with his people, as if that was not enough, he paired with NPC a northern party to form a coalition government using a party formed by a Yoruba man.

Ogbeni go and read your history book and get informed

Bros just calm down, you don't know much abt what really happedurof the war

Did you see the letter Ojukwu wrote t l banjo about the invasion of the south west

Banjo was the war lord that was supposed to capture the south west.

Banjo is from southwest but he was fighting other side of Biafra.

Ojukwu actually wanted tb annex south west and that was one of the major reasons he lost the war.

Don't believe what I just said, try to do your own independent research.

What awo said was for Gowon. He said that if the federal government allow the south east to successfully breakout of Nigeria, then south west too will break out
Awo didn't say that.

Awo was referring to the excesses of northern troops harassing Ibo civilians in Western Nigeria especially in places like Ibadan and Lagos and told Gowon that the entire Western region now appeared to have been occupied by the north and stated that the excesses of northern soldiers was triggering and promoting Ojukwu to secede and that the Western region will not tolerate a continuation of northern excesses in the Western region and will consider declaring independence if Gowon does not reign in northern troops.

This was however when Yorubas in general were still sympathic to Ibos following the pogroms up north and were challenging northern troops whenever they were harassing Ibo civilians in the western region.

Yorubas said they won't tolerate northerners harassing Ibos in the western region.

But all that changed when Ojukwu demanded all non Ibos leave Eastern Nigeria including Midwestern non Ibo people and Yorubas alike.

But the major incident that led to a 180 diagrammatic shift among Yoruba populace towards being sympathetic to the Ibos residing in western region was when news broke out of the then Ibo VC of the University of Ibadan paying 6months salary in advance to all Ibo staff of the university without any approval from the University board. After paying themselves 6 months salary in advance , all Ibo staff that got employed by Zik's chronic nepotism fled to the East. The university was left insolvent by this very act which was seen as a big betrayal by the non Ibo staff and students alike.

Then the incidence that led to the Military Governor of Western region reciprocating Ojukwu's expulsion decree came after an Ibo man was caught with a truck load of dynamite at the gate of the university.

The Ibo man on interrogation said he wanted to revenge against the sacking of Ibos from the university by blowing it up.

The Ibo VC and lecturers had been spreading lies to justify their theft of Ibadan university funds to fund their return back to the East by claiming the university had sacked them. This lie had taken root not only in the Ibo community in Ibadan but even back in Eastern Nigeria.

As I said , this lie was concoted by the Ibo VC and lecturers to claim the money they paid themselves from the university accounts was their severance package.

Most of them however foolishly converted their stolen loot to Biafran pounds which will become more worthless than the paper used to print it.

So know now that Awolowo made that statement to Gowon over hoe northern troops were harassing Ibos in the western region and was to tell Gowon that it was one of the things Ojukwu was using to persuade his people to key into seccesion and return back home.

Awo then stated that the western region will not remain a vassal of the north if this happens and will ensure western Nigeria leaves the union to avoid being a northern vassal.

It's not an accusation actually. Just a statement of fact. When Awolowo visited the Eastern region during the Pogrom to discuss the possible ways forward if the Eastern region were to be pushed out of Nigeria due to the persecution in the North, Awolowo pledged to follow suit.
In his own words (which is still argued) he said: "If the Eastern Region is allowed by acts of omission or commission to secede from or opt out of Nigeria, the Western Region will automatically follow suit."
When we declared , he refused to follow suit and instead concluded that the west was not militarily capable of seceding. While it was a wise and insightful decision that I must admit saved his people, it was still a betrayal of an informal pact he had with the Igbos. Let's not also forget a Yoruba man brought the idea of the blockade that killed millions of Igbos. Not a Fulani or a Hausa man. If you're up for it, we can have a debate on it so far as you promise not to turn it into an insult match.

Absolutely. For what? All they seek is domination of others for their kith and kin. They are least capable, by nature, to lead for the best interest of all in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society. Who wants such folks as fellow citizens or leaders?

The most intolerant, mono-religious and mono-culture region in Nigeria is the SE. These facts don't lie even if they wish to spin such with thousands of words.

It is the over-accommodating nature of Yorubas allowing them permeation in the SW and that will stop as Obi and Obidients brand of politics is seeing a rise in political conservatism in the SW.

Politics has never been about signed contracts. The current Russian Ukraine war is a testament to that. The informal pact between Russia and NATO "Not one inch eastward" is the cause of the loss of thousands of lives now. Because people go ahead and break pacts. Quit trying to be sneaky and clever-by-half! The problem i see with your emilokan/hegemonic/'one-Nigerianist' sort is that you actually think you've been smart in all your actions and inactions from the late 60s to date! But the reality of the shithole country WE ALL live in today tells a different story altogether! Your sort are prepared to lie, betray, cheat, sabotage and do just about anything it takes just so the favored elite group to which you belong, in partnership with your northern allies, can continue to control and milk the resources and opportunities of a 'one Nigeria' majorly for the benefit of your politicians, entrepreneurs, traditional rulers, clerics and your regions, while everyone else, including the ethnicity in the east that you despise, are relegated to scrambling for any crumbs you deign to throw down to them from the high table! Your winner-takes-it-all mindset typifies EXACTLY what is wrong with the black African and why they have struggled to progress as a race ever since the white man left them to their own devices in the 60s!

Only one intent on revisionism will read a different meaning into what Awo said! He wasn't drunk when he said if the Eastern region, whether by omission or commission, were allowed to leave, that the Western Region wouldn't bother staying behind to continue doing 'one Nigeria' with the North....that they would japa as well! He knew his position and the capacity/capabilities of the Western Region when he made that unfortunate statement, so don't bother trying decades later to give a different meaning to what was clearly stated and easily understood! The shocking thing is that he not only made that statement, but went on to support the North to frustrate the Eastern Region from leaving, thus sustaining the 'one Nigeria' WE ALL are 'enjoying' today! Does anyone think the North would have been able to handle a Eastern, Western and Mid-Western secessionist bid at the same time? Of course not! It needed for one or two of the three to sabotage the bid for the North to succeed! And you know something else.....given the centuries old interactions between the groups of Southern Nigeria and similarities in values and world-view (which was western oriented/tilted), it's not beyond the realms of possibility to suggest that, with the North gotten rid of, there could have been a re-coalescing together of the three to form a new Federation or Con-Federation! But as things stand today, and given the amount of water that's passed under the bridge, this isn't a possibility anymore!

Given the benefit of hindsight, any honest assessment of Awos' choices in the late 60s would return a verdict that the wrong choices were made not only for his ethnicity and region, but for history books as well! Looking back, it's clear all principal actors during that period made errors, including my own Zik and Ojukwu, but the difference between you and i is that while i'm prepared to call my own out on the mistakes they made, you on the other hand have taken a position that Awo was infallible....probably just because you want to 'win' a argument on Nairaland!

The statement that 'all is fair in war' is another unfortunate one! You can see similarities between Awo and Tinubu (the present leader of the Yoruba) in this regard!

That is why I laugh when some Igbos say they had millions in their account before they left for the east only for awo to give them on 20 pound.

You dey mind them.

Ojukwu even passed a decree banning the Nigerian Pounds to be used as transaction instrument , held in private or bank possession in his rogue state.

Of course, Ojukwu exchanged all that Nigerian pounds for his worthless Biafra pounds notes that was backed by nothing.

But as much as Ojukwu had come to outlaw the Nigerian Pounds note in his Biafra, he gave explicit order to his rampaging troops to loot a bank in Benin of all it's Nigerian Pound notes during the brief occupation of the Midwest by the invasive orc army.

The Ibos were conned by Ojukwu to trade in their Nigerian notes for his worthless Biafran Pound notes.

It is even magnanimous of Awo to have granted all of them £20 notes after the war since they were the ones who traded their money in exchange for Ojukwu's scam notes and by that act had come to deinvest from Nigeria.

A similar scenario like this played out after the American civil war that saw many wealthy Southern confederate families fall into penury after dumping the US Federal notes for Confederate notes. The US Treasury did not reimburse them.

What they however failed to ask is, what happened to the Nigerian Pound notes they exchanged for Ojukwu's Biafra pound notes ?

Well, as Ojukwu fled his Biafra on a chartered private jet, he had in the plane with him suitcases of Nigerian Pound notes he had taken out of the Biafran treasury which doubled as his command center in his infamous bunker .

Ojukwu did not flee with his Biafra Pounds notes but rather he packed suitcases of Nigerian Pound notes with him.

When Awo found out that all the confiscated Nigerian Pound notes had been stolen by Ojukwu as he fled to Ivory Coast, Awo simply did a currency redesign and renaming of our currency from Pounds to Naira.

Ojukwu became irate on hearing this knowing there was no way he could exchange his ill-gotten stolen loot for the new Naira notes. To do this, Ojukwu had to show up on Nigerian soil and take his loot to a Nigerian Bank.

That's why Ojukwu hated Awolowo .

Awo, put sand sand for Ojukwu retirement funds.

Instead of seeing that Ojukwu played a fast one on them and to be grateful to Awo for giving them free money, they instead have spent the last 60ys insulting the man.

“All’s Fair In Love And War” Origin and Meaning
The saying came from 1579 when a poet named John Lyly wrote the idiom “the rules of fair play do not apply in love and war”. As time went on, the phrase evolved and became “all’s fair in love and war”. Although it has many uses, it’s an excuse to justify acts like cheating.

It was originally in the novel “Euphues: The Anatomy of Wit”. When this came out, the expression slowly but surely became more popular. The phrase is used to describe a situation where people don’t follow normal rules and behavior, often doing things considered ‘unfair’.

Oxford defines it as a justification. That means you can do anything to achieve your goal, and it’ll be considered justifiable. The reason why it’s called love and war is because many consider love and war two things that you can do anything for, and it’s justifiable.

1. Northern NIgeria is not 100% muslim and even among the muslims there are divisions by tribe and culture.

2. Southern Nigeria is not also entirely christian.

3. It won;t lead to developed countries, it would just lead to two indebted countries because all of you do not know the real meaning of development.

South Korea is developed because they had no resources. Nigeria on the other hand is blinded by resources.
South Korea develop purely on the benevolence of the US, effectively becoming a puppet vassal state . Without US, South Korea would be no different from NK

No, that is not the truth.

North Korea was also relying heavily on the benevolence of the USSR. iNFACT...the USSR was pumping money into NK to the point that a CIA analyst was saying by the middle of the 1960's that North Korea was the better of the two koreas (and this CIA analyst hated communists in general, including those running the USSR and NK. ).

Also, SOuth Korea did not really get the US support that it needed all the time. (For example, when SOuth Korea tried to build their own version of Ajaokuta....USA Blocked every attempt to get financing from internantional banks, incl the World bank. Eventually the World Bank did provide money, but not as much as the SK wanted...they had to hustle for some finances, including some from Japan , their former colonial master).

The thing the South did was first they gave generous tax benefits to their chaebols...the big companies like Samsung and Hyundai among others...to produce goods at home, in return for them producing goods, and selling them to the international market. SECOND...they allowed these companies make a profit in ways that if it was a Nigerian government doing it, y'all would say they are dashing the company free dollars at the expense of NIgerians. And third, education education, especially vocational education. Result...SK became a developed country in twenty years. (They also finished their version of Ajaokuta on time, inspite of US oppostion)

South Korea freed their rich to make money, and the country benefited

North korea on the other hand was doing free food, freepetrol, free everything, based on the subsides they got from the USSR...like the way you guys ask for the government to do free petrol and electrcity. THey also refused to let any business thrive, and all manufacturing was not done according to the needs of the global market or the world, but on the whims of their divinely led leader, lol. (Actually they were suppsoed to be atheists). As a result, when the USSR and other communist countries collapsed, the subsides dried up, and North Korea became underdeveloped.

TBH, the Chinese , who adopted capitalism in the 1980's have been trying to show the North koreas how it is done, but the North wants free money and free cash so long as the elite can stay in power, they do not want to make money like the South.

That is why, despite the beneviolence of the USSR and of China, North Korea is worse than South Korea. It all boils down to productivity fired by the profit motive. Anyone would make cars for the world so long as the government allows them make a profit doing so. Anyone would supply electricity to as many houses as possible so long as the government let's them make a profit doing so

OH and one more thing, South Korea has no resources, so industrializaiton was far more important to them. Not like NIgeria where we decieve ourselves with our resources.
