This is actually a very sensitive topic that needs to be addressed not with emotions. If you haven’t had a child with him yet, the family has every right to come for their properties because God forbid, if same thing happened to a man from your own side (let’s say, your brother), you wouldn’t hesitate to recover all his properties from his gf/wife especially if she’s young and didn’t have a child with him. It only becomes bad when you are the one at the other end. Most women go against what the family is doing only when the deceased is not their own family member. No family will fold their arms and watch you take the properties their son painstakingly gathered for years to another man’s house. Even you yourself aren’t going to tolerate that if the deceased was your brother or son! |

The family might have learnt she was responsible for the death of her husband bcs of his wealth or any other reason. Dont dabble into what u dont know or u just read online. If it is my place, they will simply invoke the spirit of the dead to go after his killer and if it is the wife, she wont survive that year no matter how strong her babalawo is. I have seen it happened in several cases. |

Make sure you create a trust account for your wife and kids if you're from the east before you die. Speak with any of the asset management companies like stanbic, afrinvest, FCMB, FBN Asset Managers etc as soon as you can |

Kobicove:The family has no legal side to the story at all. The man is late and left the wife and children to inherit whatever he left behind. Even if the woman has no child for him, so far they're legally married and were together till the man's dieing day..the law automatically wills the man's properties to her Full stop |

K BadBradley:I'm Igbo. I don't support injustice on widow. But this lady..... Her mode of dressing before the camera and her loudness leave much to be desired. If she's a good wife, things can be resolved amicably. If she isn't the greedy type, she can choose one or two property and give to her husband's family unless if they insist on taking all, then she can seek government's support. |

You are an Igbo woman, you know and understand the culture. If the reverse is the case where you are the man, your siblings are likely going to do the same. If you ladies think the culture is due for change, I think you should unanimously stand up to put a stop to it, not wait till it doesn't favour you and you run to social media. An average Igbo, including you and your late husband is 80℅ aware of the likely outcome when death unexpectedly struck a man with no male child. |

strangest:Made with her husband as how, did you hear her saying she paid for the roofing or she bought a television in the house? As much as she and her children deserves to be taken proper care of, you want the family to sit and watch their brother's wealth thrown to jigolos right? |

This is quite common in that region, especially among people from Anambra State. I personally witnessed an incident that left me shocked. A friend and I visited a woman on the second day after she lost her husband to offer our condolences. When we arrived, she took us into her bedroom because the living room was filled with family members holding a meeting. We assumed they were discussing arrangements for taking the deceased's body back to the village. To our surprise, when we asked if that was what the meeting was about, she said no. She explained that the family was actually discussing how to share her late husband's property, and that they wouldn't move his body until those issues had been settled. Some of the relatives had even travelled from the village to Lagos that very morning for the meeting. I was genuinely surprised because that's not the culture where I come from. Adaeze should immediately seek a court injunction restraining the family from interfering with or laying claim to her late husband's property. Otherwise, they will force their way through. From what I've seen, they can be quite mean. |

As a matter of fact, this is always pathetic, particularly for women. How can some people just come after the death of the breadwinner of the family to claim the property. This is uncalled for. Though I will never support male spouse's family intimidating a widow, but this woman sounds like she has something to do with the husband's death. |
