Asking to be addressed as "Mr" is too much?
It's company policy to call people by first name, if not, the girl no go do am. That's how it is in most banks and other organizations.

Me I know say that policy na rubbish. Many of them no like am. Them just won copy white. 🤣🤣

We like title in this country. Even more than that respect. Title is not respect.

I have worked in a bank, and I still call people "MR"

And that was why I was surprised when I heard it was "Mandatory". I only know that it's fine to call people by their first names, but I never knew it was by force.

I don't know how "Mr" is a title. I don't know how addressing someone politely is a title.

She for no kuku put "Good morning". That one sef na title. She should have just called him "Tony" and asked the question.

Is Mr not a title again? If you fill a form, Mr, Mrs, etc, are prefix titles.

If I'm the girl, and I still have a job by Monday, everybody go be Mr and Mrs. We are too fake.

At the end of the day, wetyn respect wey we respect these elders do for us? Them won kill us upon all the respect wey we give them.

Maybe if we don beat nonsense comot for their body them for wise

Tony is not Tinubu that promised her heaven on earth, so I don't know what expectations we need to have for respecting people.

If she's tired of UBA and doesn't want to add "Mr", she can resign and be her own boss

Tony na CEO
Iya Misturah selling amala na CEO too

She can leave and be her own boss. Life no hard pass like that.

All of them are the same. Stop fighting this. The world is a global village. Your first name will be called whether you like it or not. 😃

This Global village has not affected the Japanese from bowing when they want to greet or apologize.

Till tomorrow, it's part of their culture.

But for Africans, everything irritates us, even a simple "Mr".

She should have left out the "Good morning". Everybody knows the morning was good. Just go ahead with "Tony, I wanted to ask about......"

Elders dey bow down to juniors in japan.

We have community culture where people live with families even in old age. Why are we living in isolation as nuclear families now?

Personally, I think Davido is laying groundworks for a career in Osun State politics. The Adelekes will definitely want to keep their political strong hold in Osun and I believe is the most likely to continue with that legacy. In comparison to other Adelekes Davido already has the appeal, the popularity and with the political structure and finance of the Adelekes he can pull it off.
I don't see what Davido has to gain by being in politics. He is richer than almost all the Senators and even governors. And knowing this is a very dirty game, even dirtier than what he is currently seeing. There are many things that would be going on that his father and uncle wont let him be seeing

Imagine Davido sitting in Osogbo or Abuja and not going on tours or shows. I think as long as his dad is alive, he wont be allowed to get into politics but when his dad passes, if Davido never calm down he might go into it

That said they can sponsor other family members into it

His father is alive yet Davido has actively campaigned for his uncle more than BRed the son of the contesting Governor in 2 election cycles. We are talking about leading rallies, press conferences, studio interviews, calling out the Presidency, openly calling out influential personalities during this period.

You are grossly underestimating the money in politics, the power it wields and the control in comparison to music, especially in a lawless country like Nigeria where anything goes. If na by that way, Davido will not chase the top of his musical career considering he is from an affluent family. Music na about eras, his time will come and go, politics can be a life time..

See ehn, the quality of our politicians, especially elected officials has watered down significantly. You are overestimating our politicians, dem no hold anything. Abi should go through them?

IMO, Its general emotional intelligence, when in a new environment or situation take the most conservative option that is most respectful until you are corrected to relax

e.g if I come to your house for the first time and we are not very familiar, I will take off my shoes first until you inform me that its okay to wear my shoes on your carpet, I wont assume that you will be okay with it

The below is an example of n American who also took offence

https://youtube.com/shorts/iEDD7097trw?is=T51K6bjo0gpGcoPg
Gen Z will always fight for their right to be Alaileko. Was just laughing at their silly comments defending the girl.

I don't know when it's not that them raise you for bush cos I'm sure he might even be older than her father

The irony is swap the genders and the comments would be much different. They will call the young man a misogynist for not respecting a woman

Tony as how? Even if he be her aristo wey dey fvck am you will still survey settings and keep it incognito by avoiding familiarity

I would rather go with Mr or Sir make e correct me. Even if they say it's company policy. You're in front of the grand Puba of the company you still owe him that courtesy. Let him correct you from there and you continue

We emphasize on this respect too much. For elders wey won sophocate us. They don't deserve our respect sef.
I don’t know if you are just playing devil’s advocate here or you are being sarcastic sha….but trust me , it’s lack of emotional
intelligence to be addressing a senior executive like Tony Elumelu by his first name irrespective of what they must have told her in banking school .

The right thing to do is refer to him as Mr. which is official and already conveyed respect .

I understand perfectly well what Ibukun Awosika is saying , particularly that aspect of where the person would not complain you called them by their first name but deep down they aren’t cool with it .

When I first started working in corporate naija back then , I don follow my ogas go some kind meetings where u will see young girls and boys who are managers in companies we are prospecting for would just out of the blues say “ So Tobi , you are saying we do get xyz as added benefits right ? “.

I would notice how my oga who is probably in his early 50’s feels awkward a 31 year old randomly calls him “Tobi “ , but then he has no choice since the person works for a prospective client’s company . Deep down I know if that person needs Oga Tobi’s Favour , he or she will get a dress down for jumping the gun with that first name basis crap and will most likely not get the Favour sef .

This fake respect culture will soon die sha. Whether you people like it or not. Our minor languages are going down already. We either maintain all our culture or none at all. He does not subscribe to Oyinbo culture but why doesn't his staff wear native attires from Monday to Friday?

Respect is not in name.
For secondary school that year if them no put senior this or that name, junior go chop beating. Mumu culture wey no.get head.
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by iamoyindamola(m): 6:21am On Aug 21
I am never comfortable calling my superior or senior colleagues by first name even i always add Mr or Mrs.
The second one is me greeting someone first 'Good Morning' abd the person responded with Morning, i won't greet such person again i don't care your post or title, we suddenly want to adopt stupidity by removing the good in Morning.
If someone greet me first abd say Morning i don't answer because I am not sure if you are greeting or asking a question.

Let me guess , you think it’s an African/Nigerian thing right ?

Have u ever worked with Asians particularly Indians ? An Indian will call address a senior colleague , an elderly person or anybody they respect with the suffix “Ji” behind that person’s name as a sign of respect . When you hear an Indian say “Rahul Ji “ , he is simply saying “Rahul sir “. They are so big on respect that they they won’t even call their MD or CEO by their title alone , they would say “ MD sir “ or “CEO sir “.

Whether u speak indigenous language or English language , you can always be respectful and courteous ; it won’t take a thing from you to do so .

The truth is Tony lets her know that yes there are people who call him “Tony “ , but those are definitely people who have earned a right to do so. She no use anything qualify to be among people that can ever call him by first name ; it’s not like she’s a chairman on the board of a company Tony is a director ; they are not age mates , they are not acquaintances , she’s not a multi billionaire Tony is prospecting to invest into his unicorn or something . Poverty and backwardness.
They are just better in technology.

Moreover, Asian respect is two way o. Not one way. Nigeria respect is always from junior to senior. Senior go fit bow down for junior like Japan?

I'm not playing devils advocate. My problem is selecting when to import culture.
- We wear suit to work everyday when we have our cultural wears that fits our weather.
- They trained her to call everyone in the organization by first name but why does he want to exempt himself. Let them scrap that culture. It doesn't work in Nigeria.

Finally, we show too much respect in this country that's why we are making slow progress. "Respect" culture is why we are where we are.

I hope you are not living in a bubble sha with the way you confidently mentioned poverty and backwardness as wearing naija take better pass India ? 🧏

About 63% of Nigerian population live below poverty line , while just a paltry 5% of Indian population live below poverty line . How India take poor pass Nigeria again?

Let's not even talk about ten human capital they have over there and the industries they have. Why do u think naija businessmen like Dangote go dey feceruit expats from India? Do know the number of oil refineries they have in India? Do know the number of plants and industries they have where their people get hands-on experience that sought after globally?
