I hope you are not living in a bubble sha with the way you confidently mentioned poverty and backwardness as wearing naija take better pass India ? 🧏

About 63% of Nigerian population live below poverty line , while just a paltry 5% of Indian population live below poverty line . How India take poor pass Nigeria again?

Let's not even talk about ten human capital they have over there and the industries they have. Why do u think naija businessmen like Dangote go dey feceruit expats from India? Do know the number of oil refineries they have in India? Do know the number of plants and industries they have where their people get hands-on experience that sought after globally?
Poverty in india is still a major challenge. We have the richest black people in africa from Nigeria, but we are one of the poorest countries in the world.

We have the highest number startups in Africa, even Moroccan startups are looking up to us, but we are still poor as a nation. When majority of your population is poor, your nation is poor

I'm not playing devils advocate. My problem is selecting when to import culture.
- We wear suit to work everyday when we have our cultural wears that fits our weather.
- They trained her to call everyone in the organization by first name but why does he want to exempt himself. Let them scrap that culture. It doesn't work in Nigeria.

Finally, we show too much respect in this country that's why we are making slow progress. "Respect" culture is why we are where we are.
There are countries where they show respect and things go smoothly for them far better than Nigeria. No be respect dey spoil Nigeria, na corruption and not doing the right things.

You said tbey trained her to call people by their first name, but u forget there's what is called Emotional Intelligence. I'm sure if she finds herself one on one with POTUS she won't say "Good Morning Donald". She will definitely remember who he is and not casually address him by his first name.

There are organizations who wear whatever they like to work from Monday to Friday. Since COVID, a lot has changed in the corporate world. The company I work with, there's no dress code in our handbook ; HR just expects you to dress well. It doesn't stop people from showing respect to colleagues, superiors and other stakeholders.

First, respect in Nigeria is to shut up when elders are talking. That's the problem. Anything elders say, you do. No questions. Respect. Asia dey do am?

As regards POTUS, Donald does not work in UBA or have any affiliation to the company.

You say some companies, those companies are not UBA. I'm speaking about UBA.

How will the debt of 4000 be financed?

We stopped Subsidy to free up some debt (I agree with this), and then in 3 years, we plunged ourselves into a debt of almost 3 times that of subsidy.

So a debt of 1000 is crucial to be stopped, but a debt of 4000 isn't?

Atiku has now stated that he would add subsidy back. If you can borrow 4000, is it the 1000 that was the problem?
Anyone who thinks subsidy has ended needs a konk on the head

There is no way Nigerians are paying $0.60 per litre and it's not subsidised

Subsidy is larger now than it was before Tinubu

While the intention was indeed to end subsidy, where the Naira landed after devaluation meant that subsidy was continued.

Without subsidy, the cost of one litre of petrol would be N2,000 at minimum

UBA is a bank and most Nigerian banks dress corporate. I honestly don't see the corellation u are trying to draw between dress code of an organization and addressing people with respect sha.

I don't think UBA tells their graduate trainees in Banking school to address a customer or prospective customer by their first name despite the noticeable age difference. That is where emotional intelligence comes into play.

Don't be offended by this question bro, do you currently work in the corporate space in Nigeria or have worked in the corporate space before?

There's a global generally acceptable measure of poverty and by that rate Nigeria is still poorer than India. But somehow you believe Nigeria is better than India? grin

E be like say u never travel commot major cities in Nigeria make u go see poverty in real life. The part of the north wey I serve, if u see the kind tattered naira notes people spend....Nobody bothers rejecting mutilated notes like we do in major cities, they simply collect anything that has semblance of CBN note no matter how tattered it is. That was at a time Dollar dey exchange around N150 o. Imagine how things will look like over there now. I do mistake carry some of those naira notes come Lagos, I later threw it away after some months

I've worked in numerous corporate organizations. And this is the norm. First name basis. In one of my former organizations, because the MD sir was too much, the MD adopted to be called by the initials of his full name and that was enforced.

Make no mistakes, I'm not even comfortable with calling someone who is 5 years older than me by name. Not because of respect per say, but because of the way we were brought up. But that doesn't equate to respect. If that person tells you to do something, will you do it?

Title means nothing.

Just browse poverty in india on Google. They have a population of 1.4billion. You think it's clear eyes that make them collect 5 dollar gigs for jobs worth 100s of dollars on freelance platforms?

We are definitely poorer but na same level we dey.

Can you tell me any of our local cultures that permits calling an elder by his first name?

Let me agree that adding "Sir & Mr" is imported and fake.

Which tribe allows calling an Elderly person by their first name?

Let me guess , you think it’s an African/Nigerian thing right ?

Have u ever worked with Asians particularly Indians ? An Indian will call address a senior colleague , an elderly person or anybody they respect with the suffix “Ji” behind that person’s name as a sign of respect . When you hear an Indian say “Rahul Ji “ , he is simply saying “Rahul sir “. They are so big on respect that they they won’t even call their MD or CEO by their title alone , they would say “ MD sir “ or “CEO sir “.

Whether u speak indigenous language or English language , you can always be respectful and courteous ; it won’t take a thing from you to do so .
Nigerians will trample upon anything about their culture like it's a burden.

The same people trolling Tony for copying a white man's greeting, may probably have their own culture, prostrating, bowing, doing frog jump, etc to greet the elderly.

I never knew a time would come when to add "Mr" would be an issue

Baba mi, even if UBA says "address every staff by their first name" during banking school , trust me nobody will sit you down and tell you to call the chairman of your company group "Tony" 🙅‍♂️

She lacks emotional intelligence and for that she's trending for the wrong reasons

By the way, since u are not comfortable.witj what she did why are u defending/playing advocate for her? Don't u think u will mislead a younger person reading this thread?

As in.....I don't even know in what world a youth in her 20's will think it's a burden to address almost 4 decades older than her with courtesy. Let's even forget the person in question is the chairman of group of companies.

I'm not misleading anyone. Anyone can call my name. Just as I don't care if you give me something from left or right hand.

Those things don't make one respectful.

a very bad way to start your career

al that can work in small tech startups where ceo is under 30

but in your traditional organization - anywhere in the world, your entry level employee is NOT going to address the oga at the top by his first name.

infact sometimes your paddy from before before - if he climb pass you when you meet him you will not address him by name if you no dey sure where you stand with him

you think people who worked sjpulder to shoulder with sanwo in lspppa back then can all meet him and address him with the same familiarity as before

age and position comes with an expected level of respect - unless you are doing agbaya with small girl
