izzou:Lmao it will be a waste of my time to engage you in something as straight forward as "following policy". My brother please when you see plenty people breaking policies, follow them. I'm done with this conversation🙏 |

liveLongNprospa:You are hammering on the lady standing on protocol She clearly heard the first person use "Sir", and was not rebuked She clearly heard the second person. Obviously heard the 3rd person. All were clearly answered by "Tony" Just to put "Mr", and see the funny funny explanations you guys are throwing up and down. She obviously was the only right person amongst 374 trainees. |

izzou:Tony Elumelu is not a colleague of that young lady, but is a Non-Executive board member. There is difference between Appointment and Employment. He is not necessarily bound by policy. |

Ibime:Does your company have a first name policy and if it does do you see interns or fresh hires calling the managing director by his name? My personal experience is that company policy is mainly for when someone wants to Fk you up. People from ceo down no dey follow it like that. They may write it with best of intentions but execution is a different beast. In my experience policies are often literally made up on the fly to tick a compliance box. You are registering as partner or joining an association and they demand your policy on equal opportunity hiring. You just download someone else's policy, tweak it and move on. I have seen this happen extensively with safety policies for instance. A large number of local Nigerian energy companies have fancy safety policies but their operations make it clear they are not worth the paper they are written on. The girl may be one of those neurodivergent oversabi who puts too much faith in fancy speeches rather than body language and reality. Speaking as a person who has also made the mistake of taking ceo bs seriously izzou:that is what makes her stooo pid. four people addressed the man as sir before her. he did not chastise them for doing so. it got to her turn to speak and she decided to stand out from the crowd not by making an insightful, profound statement or speech, but by calling the oga pata pata by his first name |

Ibime:This is the point which I expected to be obvious to all dem prospa and co talking about "company policy" blah blah. Tony Elumelu while Corte ting her told to either call him Mr. Elumelu or Chairman. Tony Elemulu is the chairman emeritus of the UBA group. He only stepped down as chairman of the board this year after 12 years as chairman due to statutory requirements. Almost everyone within and outside UBA knows he is Mr. UBA Anybody with emotional intelligence supposed know say when dem dey tell u for banking school to address Ur colleague on first name basis, nobody is telling u to call the chairman emeritus of the bank by his first name. He is definitely not Ur colleague nor member of staff. I just look Those guys supporting her dey form yeye woke culture. I'm very sure none of them has ever called a director in their work place by his first name if indeed they've worked closely with high-ups before..... Except the person is white man who insists on being called by his first name. |

izzou:The fact that you want to know where I'm from so you can start sending personal attacks says a lot about the kind of person you and airmark are. Show me a post where I say I don't support her. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Griffon: 8:58am On Aug 22 |
Will not blame the girl, I’ll blame those bingos who imported those white cooperate nonsense to our land. Nearly all African traditions have been lost through European colonialism, missionary activity, and Western cultural influence. In our bid, to behave like the whites, we are now seen normalizing the whites’ first name culture even amongst our elders. Our young people dressing naked publicly as part of Western clothing and beauty standards indoctrination. Some are even actively hawking their bodies just to acquire hair attachments. Colonial languages becoming dominant in administration and education, sometimes at the expense of our indigenous languages. Dating and marriages practices, religious beliefs, traditional medicine, architecture, food systems and to even African philosophy of communal responsibility, concepts expressed through ideas such as Ubuntu - the belief that one’s humanity is connected to that of others. These are all facing competition from increasingly individualistic economic and social values which the whiteman cultures promotes. I no go just blame the girl at all. |

Griffon:Thank you |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by odizeey(m): 9:03am On Aug 22 |
Just remove first name policy and let everyone rest since you like "respect" Which one be emotional intelligence or use your head. That's how bribery and corruption is fostered. We have a policy but use your head. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 10:28am On Aug 22 |
odizeey:Says a lot indeed. You claimed we were copying white culture. You claimed that using "Mr" is fake respect. But in your/our cultures, we do more drama instead of using "Mr" We bow, genuflect, lie down, kneel...But all these are not "fake" to you. Na "Mr" be fake. Next time, pick one side and stick to it. You seem not to know what point to push |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by odizeey(m): 11:02am On Aug 22 |
odizeey:This has been my position. Why pick culture that suits us and cry about the one that doesn't suit us even when we are the ones that imported them? Was he not there when the first name basis was implemented. My secondary point which is not directly related to the scenario is, where have the demand respect taken us as nation? Instead it has stifled the voices of people from speaking truth to authorities. Fear. We can't talk when elders do wrong because they will say you don't have respect. Maybe when you watch the history of how this country was mismanaged to ruin, that respect you have will wear off. Please, don't tell me about how it's politicians. Civil servants are not not politicians. Selah. Respect my ass. I'm done. |

izzou:Na you wey get time to argue Unless these guys get a job in a flat tech startup with ceo under 30, they will be saying sir, Mr, boss, chief, Mrs, Madam to any superior that is two layers above them. By the time the 'cool' oga gives you a dirty look you will know how far. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Kaczynski: 11:38am On Aug 22 |
BlueRayDick:Calling someone by their first name isn’t an insult, it’s a sign of familiarity or at least basic social competence. But no, Elumelu needs to be worshipped like a goddamn kabiyesi. But no, let’s all bow to Elumelu because he’s chairman of so called bank. Fuark that. If you want respect, earn it. Don’t demand it like a toddler who just discovered caprisun. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Kaczynski: 11:41am On Aug 22 |
Griffon:I dare you to drop your phone and burn all item made from the west and move to the bushes where your ancestors once dwelled. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 12:13pm On Aug 22 |
Kaczynski:And what familiarity does the graduate trainee have with Tony elemelu? Do you think tech is the only game in town and the only people who have earned respect are tech bros? Tony Elumelu's estimated net worth ranges between $1.7 billion and $3.2 billion, depending on regional and industry valuations of his private and public assets. Conservative global trackers like Forbes historically list his verified liquid and direct holdings lower (around $700 million), while recent African market analyses factor in the major growth of his energy and conglomerate portfolios.Tony elemelu has a track able history and we all watched him start standard bank, acquire/merge with UBA and then expand into other fields By his age, achieviements and status in the industry he has earned his respect. Unless your sole mark of success is cross dressing, fruity ezra olubi who you can casually trade insults with in the office. His downfall was in part because he did not set any boundaries and refused to act like a person in his position |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Griffon: 12:14pm On Aug 22 |
Kaczynski:Don’t be so naive. The issue no be “burn everything made by the West.” The issue is “stop confusing technological advancement with cultural superiority.” Criticizing the negative cultural influence of the West on Africans does not mean Africans must reject every Western invention or run into the bushes as you suggest. We can use the phone and laptop without surrendering our identity. We can use modern medicine without abandoning our traditions. We can drive Western-made cars while still questioning cultural values that undermine our communities. This is akin to you saying I should stan LGBTQ because I use an iPhone, isn’t that lame. Our ancestors had their own systems, values, knowledge and civilization long before Western influence. We should be mature enough to take what is useful from every civilization while protecting what is valuable in our own. |
