The Lejja Iron-Smelting Site is an ancient archaeological location in Nsukka, Enugu State, southeastern Nigeria, that dates back to approximately 2000 BC. Key Facts Location: Situated in Lejja, a cluster of 33 villages located about 15 kilometers south of Nsukka. Age: Radiocarbon dating places the earliest iron-smelting activities around 2000 BC, making it one of the oldest known iron-smelting sites in the world. The Slag Blocks: The village square at Otobo Ugwu (Otobo Ejuona) contains over 800 heavy blocks of iron slag—waste left over from extracting metal from stone ore—with individual blocks weighing between 34 and 57 kilograms. Significance: The site proves that advanced industrial metallurgy and complex societal organization existed independently in West Africa long before outside contact. |

Bro, is that not too hard a knock? After knocking him on the head, you know decided to knock him below the belt. You be Ninja turtle or terminator? Wayo wayo wayo.....easy does it..... Definitely you have said it all, everything ain't gonna be stomach infrastructure..Nigerians too like hands out too much, grants, AIDS, subsidies, etc....too much entitlement with Nigerians. Though I don't blame them completely cos of the open and careless spending of the treasury by the political elites and of course the problem of the massive corruption by this same individual without punishment or an equal and appropriate measure of punishment to offenders to discourage further looting. Preservation of Lejja Iro Smelting Sitein Enugu state....... Original workmen, people, and culture in Lejja must be Igalas, and Bini people; not Nd'Igbos to whose political occupation of Lejja presently falls into its hands. Let the archaeological findings and research establish the original, true owners and workmen of the site, the dates work was started done, and tenure of use of the site, please. |

You are being bribed to preserve a resource that will help Nigeria process iron instead of the menace of iron condemned. You are being bribed to live poor instead of using your resources. |

Raxxye:The US backs it global dominance by this kind of financial commitment. It is how they spread their influence all over the world. Did you not watch SA president running to the White House after Trump threatened to cut medical aid to HIV sufferers in SA? Donations like this give them solid leverage on many countries. Do you know how much of their donor funds help sustain our public health care sector? The US matches its world power position with financial action. Foreign aid missions are among the reasons they have a huge debt pile. This was Nigeria's role in Africa before mismanagement drove our economy downhill. |

Heritage site! Fantastic historical and cultural preserve! Further exploration of the area would reveal even more significant advancements of old from the Igbos. There are many such sites in Igbo land. Excellent work here! |

For some.of us who studied history and have the relics in our respective family and ancient lands, we already know it was Igbo technology as many of those skills and craftsmanship were handed over from generation to generation to this day. Don't fret. It's 100% Igbo developed and owned. gudugudumeje: |
