SixSeven:Did baba kékeré also build 2 functional rail lines? Sanwoolu is a success already. Others should takeover from where he stopped. The write up doesnt even have metrics for measuring state govt. Just some personal opinion. |

Buccalcavity2:Rail lines built in 15 years. Color me surprised ![]() And just if you don't know some of the history. Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first civilian governor of Lagos State, originally conceived the ambitious Lagos Metroline project in 1983 to ease the city's heavy traffic. It was proposed during the Second Nigerian Republic by Governor Lateef Jakande and awarded to Interinfra, a French consortium. Who scrapped it? It was scrapped in 1985 by the military administration of General Muhammadu Buhari due to economic and funding concerns, causing major financial losses. In fact it was one of the things they used as campaign against Buhari before una visionaries partnered with the same Buhari as a reformed democrat to enter there 🤡 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgNI2ZUqn1k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXVlGAkFfng Baba Kekere even had advice for governors when interviewed only if you are patient enough to listen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOHkti8v5PI You can't buy reputation bro. SixSeven:Mr Itanforiti! I didnt ask for epistles. Did baba kékeré construct 2 rail lines? Sanwoolu did. This is to adress your lopsided comparison. No governor/subnationals in Nigeria constructed 2 rail lines in one tenure. Not one! |

mohbadliveson:When you physically see the governor, you will understand that the man is going through a lot and it's like he's just wishing that the hand of the time be moved faster into May 29th, 2027 for him to quit. The political situation in Lagos State, especially his presumed sidelining from being the arrowhead in Lagos APC, maybe one reason,he has lost steam. From the Speaker's impeachment, down to the party's primaries, where had less contribution to make, with Tinubu and GAC members running the show in the politics of Lagos State, hope you remember how his approval to some of the landed issues in Lagos State, was rubnished by the Federal might, this maybe part of the reasons he has decided to just to play the waiting game. How many of the candidates of the party from the state are really his candidate as the 001, of APC in Lagos State?. Please allow to wail away the time. |

badoh:Can you see your mentality? I'm glad the one who wrote this piece, is a Yorubaman, not another tribe, people like you should have asked him to go back to his State. Can't you see that in Lagos State, governance is taking the back seat? He praised him for a good begining but asked him to have a good ending, but you are angry for what he wrote. Can't Tinubu and anyone he brought be criticized for crying out loud? Are they God, that can't do wrong? What nonsense is this kind of slave mentality, where you don't have a say of your own, even when you are dying because of selfish loyalty May God show people mercy. |

Eriokanmi:Eriokanmi, you are heavily deflecting in some of the paragraphs you posted here especially the last paragraph BUT I largely get the other pictures you are trying to convey. Just to correct you... "Ijebu Epe" and "Eko Epe" refers to the two sections of Epe town consisting of the original Ijebu indigenes of Epe town who own Epe while "Eko Epe" simply refers to the followers of Oba Kosoko who fled with him to safety from Isale Eko to Ijebuland (Epe town now in Lagos State) after the British Navy gunships brought from Fernando Po heavily bombed Eko after a heavy siege to stop the despicable and illicit slave trade in the late 1800s that was being fueled by Oba Kosoko himself. Oba Dosunmu was then installed as the new Oba (or Eleko of Eko). Due to the fierce battle of heavy cannons, Kosoko fled to Epe from Eko with his family members and followers including Balogun Oshodi Tapa and that was how the concept of "Eko Epe" evolved in Epe town in Lagos State till date. Eko Epe folks infact select their Yoruba traditional leader via Islamic turbanning [just like in Iwo Kingdom in Osun State] NOT through Obashio coronation via Ifa divination. Infact some of Kosoko's followers went back to Eko (Lagos Island) and settled in a place called Epetedo. Epetedo is where the Eko returnees from Epe settled hence the name Epetedo. I've got maternal ancestry from Lagos Island and even cousins from Epe [whose father served as a Commissioner in Governor (Sir). Micheal Otedola's government in Lagos State back in the 1990s] so I know what I'm saying here. Second and most important, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat's mother is a pure indigene of Lagos State while his biological father [who was the former Commissioner for Works in Lagos State in the Alhaji Abdulateef Jakande's government till 1983] (Obafemi Hamzat's father was the Commissioner handling the terminated Lagos Metroline project) was paternally from Ogun State (and also became an Oba or king of his Ogun State community) with strong Lagos State ancestral roots as well. This is why Obafemi Hamzat is HIGHLY esteemed in Lagos APC because he is cerebral as a PhD holder and has a strong political and ancestral pedigree in Lagos State and he was born in Lagos State! Hence he is strongly favored to be the NEXT Governor of Lagos State under the APC. So, what are you on about? Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu too was born in Lagos State with the family house on Lagos Island. Anyhow, may the BEST man win between Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and others... Especially Doherty. The other "boy-man" called Rhodes-Vivour (who blundered in the media and said he "doesn't think in Yoruba" is a very cocky, mentally immature person) is NOT fit to govern a highly traditional state such as Lagos State (where you have Elegba shrines and more at major junctions and roundabouts regardless of the facade of modernity with being an international business hub), there are several Obas and traditional rulers in Lagos State so a person like that CANNOT just barge in disrespecting the cultures of the folks of Lagos State while plotting to be a Governor. He hasn't even deemed it fit to apologize for his past Twitter [now X] posts while highly defaming the Yoruba folks and praising that secessionist gang named "ip*b." So, it's largely between Dr. Obafemi Hamzat of the APC and the others such as Doherty. Period. |

SixSeven:You made a nice post there. However, I have a 1985 copy of Chief MKO Abiola's magazine publication entitled, "African Concord" in one of my personal libraries/archives where the then Military government led by the senior Airforce officer, Group Captain Gbolahan Mudashiru took credit for the cancellation of the Lagos Metroline projects. Mudashiru confessed in the interview with the magazine that he personally terminated it and was planning to reaward the project. However, the notoriously corrupt Military government of Ibrahim Babangida took over and that was the end of that project. That was how the Military played ping pong with that project after easing Group Captain Gbolahan Mudashiru out. However, BETTER now, the Blue, Red rail lines are in full swing and impending Green line linking Lagos Island to the Lekki Peninsula is much awaited. So, for the records, it wasn't the then Head-of-State, Muhammad Buhari that scrapped the Lagos Metroline project BUT the then Military government of Group Captain Gbolahan Mudashiru of Lagos State. A lot of people like to bandy around the FALSE accusation that it was Buhari that scrapped that project but Gbolahan Mudashiru took responsibility for the termination of the then Lagos Metroline [being overseen by the biological father of the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat who was the then Lagos State Commissioner for Works in Governor Abdulateef Jakande's government from 1979 to 1983] with the intention to reaward the contract. |

AlphaTaikun:Thank you for the response. I think this is semantics too because we all know how the military is/was, Mudashiru could never take that step without approval from his boss. When Buhari's military government stopped the project, claiming the costs were too high amidst a general purge of civilian politicians. Buhari too has also admitted canceling the rail line. He even used it to campaign for CPC and AC used it to attack him before they married themselves in 2014. From the archives, it detailed how Buhari's appointed Lagos Military Governor, Commodore Mudashiru Lawal, acting on federal fiscal directives, declared the 698.5 million contract with Interinfra unsustainable. Let's not forget the French consortium, Interinfra took the matter to court and successfully sued for breach of contract. If I had time, I would post archival reports here too but look at it, we are 40 years late. Had that project been completed, we would have gone faaaaaaaaaaaaaar today. What a waste. SixSeven:SixSeven, read the Post Script [P.S.] right BELOW for another perspective from a book written about former Governor Abdulateef Jakande by Dr. 'Bola Olaosebikan. What super clean, fantastic archival sources are you using? Are they personal or public domain archival materials? Whoa! I wish Group Captain Gbolahan Mudashiru (rtd) is still alive as of today to respond to some historical specifics here. However, I'm aware his wife was into mechanised agribusiness in Lagos State and she might have some perspectives which her late spouse shared with her while in that Military government and knowing FULL well as you stated that the French consortium, "Interinfra" took the matter to court and successfully sued for breach of contract. Why take overall credit for the Lagos Metroline project cancelation in that "African Concord" Magazine when his then Military boss was the one who "nudged" him on? I mean, Mudashiru spoke with his FULL chest in that 1985 interview and that same month of August 1985, Babangida and his goons overthrow Buhari in that coup. When I have the time, I'll have that "Africa Concord" magazine scanned and let you have it for future keeps and reference. These are the kinds of historical references that we MUST NEVER forget to avoid second-hand fables being told and retold. The knowledge of history is key for preventing future errors of judgement. I appreciate your honest feedbacks here and your attention to details. P.S. Here's another perspective right in the two Weblinks right BELOW: [1] http://www.punchng.com/news/cancelling-metroline-a-major-mistake-jakande/ [2] https://www.nairaland.com/2202067/cancelling-metroline-major-mistake-jakande The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was NOT responsible for the cancellation of the project. The author of the book, Olaosebikan, said he was motivated to write about Jakande in 1994 after he met the former governor. He said that his findings as recorded in the book showed that Buhari did NOT abort the metroline project as being claimed but that ‘certain forces’ terminated the project. http://www.punchng.com/news/cancelling-metroline-a-major-mistake-jakande/ |

AlphaTaikun:I have seen this story you cited where Jakande himself said whoever it was who canceled it, they know why they did. Have we forgotten that Buhari was the head of state in LAGOS Abuja wasn't the capital then. Maybe it's unfair to say Wike will do anything today without the President's approval but I understand what you mean in terms of what was on ground then. As if Jakande was prophesying, the metroline project has remained just what he saw it to be: a dream.
