Education Ministry Introduces Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize

It is my pleasure to announce the opening of the Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize.

As part of our commitment to supporting student excellence, the National Laureate Prize is a new national platform to celebrate and reward outstanding research, innovation and intellectual excellence across our universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

Backed by an initial annual prize fund of ₦365 million, the National Laureate Prize will award ₦35 million for the Undergraduate Star Prize, ₦50 million for the Master’s Star Prize and ₦100 million for the Doctoral Star Prize, alongside ₦180 million for 15 Thematic Excellence Prizes, valued at ₦12 million each.

The Prize is open to students and researchers across every accredited tertiary institution in Nigeria, providing a truly national platform to identify and reward our brightest minds and most impactful research.

Yesterday, I held a press briefing alongside members of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) National Laureate team, where we formally announced the Prize, outlined its vision and structure, and answered questions from members of the media on its implementation, selection process and long-term objectives.

In addition to the Star Prizes, the National Laureate Prize will feature special awards across critical fields, including Engineering and Technology, Medicine and Health Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Agriculture, Law and Teaching Innovation.

We have also introduced the Dr. Stella Adadevoh Prize for Medicine and Medical Innovation, a special award established in honour of Dr Adadevoh’s extraordinary courage and contribution to our nation.

Jointly implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education and NERD, the Prize will operate through a transparent, competitive and merit-driven process that puts academic excellence and impact first.

This initiative reflects the clear direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, under the Renewed Hope Agenda: to build a Nigeria where knowledge, skills, research and innovation are deliberately harnessed to create opportunities, strengthen our economy and improve the lives of our people.

The President has continued to demonstrate his commitment to investing in Nigeria’s human capital and giving our young people the platforms they need to compete, innovate and succeed. Through the National Laureate Prize, we are translating that vision into another tangible opportunity for Nigerian students and researchers.

Our goal is to build an education system that does not simply produce certificates, but produces solutions, innovations, enterprises and measurable national value.

That's how we will be seeing endowment funds everyday now till election day. Stupid people. You will still lose the election come 2027. Criminals

That will be motivative to some extent.

The education minister needs to jeer up their media team. They have some programs under this government which actually make sense.

Vocational training centre which is 100% free plus stipends, there should be more awareness about the program. Skills make one self independent when it comes to finance.

This makes me remember that fraud bigoted Laurette, whose Laurette came from greed, betrayal, and double crossing...

Initiated cultism that is destroying the youths today.

Whom Tinubu has helped buried the legacy we thought he had.

Portable now commands more relevance than him...

It there is one thing I will thank Tinubu for, is his ability in exposing the fraud, greed, and the evil that lies in the subconscious of men...

Men we would have ignorantly celebrated as noble, when there is actually nothing noble about them.

Thank you Mr. President, and please, keep exposing more.

Just for you to commend this, you have to as usual display the opposition supporters behavior from some quarters.

The vocational training centres , 100% free, plus stipends, was that also set up because of election?

The opposition and their supporters are making it difficult for Nigerians to consider them because you can't be undermining things that people have confirmed, experienced and still expect them to believe or trust you.

This man should say something about the new curriculum... Schools are confused about whether to go ahead with the new curriculum or continue with the old... FCT education board for example have asked schools to continue with the old curriculum

Let them clarify all these... Stop bringing in confusion... Even the supposed old one was just introduced few years ago, now this

This people want to scatter the educational system kpatakpata.

I bet you; these are mainly illiterates cooking these policies. If they are educated in any true sense, they should have known that you don’t mix money with education. Money should NEVER be a reward for education. Recognition should. Even money as “scholarship” should NEVER be the reward for educational excellence.

Money corrupts any system.

It has never been used in any progressive society to award excellence. The noble prize is an award first, before it is the money. The money is even meager when compared to the recognition.

Its a centre which focus more on skills. Barbing, electrician, mechanics, personal assistant

As you are learning, apart from the stipends, you can still be making money on your own with your skills. An hairdresser for example can be making aside money around her hood with what she learned from the centre

I actually advocated for this and was consistent about it.

When you consider the other alternative former school, you will go to primary, secondary, tertiary not making money and at the end of the day, there won't be job available after graduation.

Instead of wasting time doing that, why not learn skills and be self independent. Personal assistant work is now lucrative, make up artists is now a career. As you are learning , you are earning

You're suffering from the last elections defeat syndrome, this has blocked your sense of humor and built hatred in you against Nigeria State, if not you wouldn't be colouring any FG policy with politics of destruction and degradation.

This is a good policy that will benefit Nigeria State and encourage students and other researchers in our tertiary institutions. Your response is highly insensible against sensibility.

You must be an APC jobless supporter to pretend this endowment fund isn't tried to the upcoming election, especially when it's clear the government has lost all atom of goodwill from Majority of Nigerians after they have killed all sectors they met that was doing well on their own.

Please continue supporting them but don't ever judge my critical assessment with your zombiesh loyalty and support

If these kinds of people could ban schools from celebrating EOS for flimsy reasons, then you'll expect something bigger.

When you look at some countries, they absorb the research from these institutions of learning and advance them into their daily living.

When my bunkmate did a research at a Finnish university on detecting waste using reinforcement learning algorithms, the research was forwarded to Finland government waste management organization. They did an analysis, tested it and it was excellent. They deployed it on streets, car parks and recreation centres. It worked.

The team were awarded for their recognition in fighting waste litter. THERE WERE NOT GIVEN COMPENSATION MONEY. That's how it should be.

Only a corrupt government rewards financial cash offer because of research. After all will they implement the contents of the research?

They will fling it away one side.

Tor!
