That is how they have the money to buy ambulances, and maintain an emergency serviice. IN Nigeria? You expect a state that cannot spend up to one billion dollars for its budget to have a service like a town in the US or UK that spends far more than that to maintain a decent ambulance service? A full emergency service in a typical UK city costs between £150 million and £400 million annually. Enugu state health budget is 52,735.84 pounds. Una see the problem? nairalanda1:Tell me any social welfare program/initiative that the government is giving to the citizen that is effectively monitored and efficiently delivered from the revenue gotten from oil and others. Outside oil, there's in the import tarrifs, you know the revenue we get from our ports? Revenue from IGR? Revenue from VAT? Revenue from Company-billed taxes? Now before you blame the citizens, what companies, local and international has the government set up that is bringing in more revenue. Or is it the civil service that has duplication of function, that's only really a revenue-eating arm of government with near-zero revenue-generation? So, answer truthfully, what is government doing with the "little" they have now before taxing strictly that will let us know that they can do more when they tax us to our last kobo. Even in Abuja,Lagos,Kano and PH they is no government 911 Ambulance services na small Enugu go get am? Enugu need to solve water scarcity problems first before Ambulance own. In addition, Nairaland have a large crowd of uninformed users. I wonder what foreigners in this platform will think about them. The way they talk about banditry & kidnapping you will think that, you can get easily kidnapped on your street in Ikeja, Ibadan, Enugu, Kano, Gusau even in Maiduguri when going out to buy snacks. Some don't know that Maiduguri is the state capital of Borno and it is peaceful and safe. Even Boko Haram cannot dare invade there. I told someone here 90% of areas plague with bandits and terrorist in the North only hear about it on the News like those here in Nairaland or other part of Nigeria. Majority of Northerners or Nigerians have never had an encounter 1 on 1 with a Bandit or terrorist. The problem about this is that, those that knows this like us prefer to stay silent because we are all tired of APC. What I keep on saying. We just do not understand the concept of rescue, emergencies, fire and medicare. And because we are primarily preoccupied with PROJECTS, buildings, concrete and mortar, we forget that these things are also services and one important service that makes all the difference in medicare is emergency services. I have said it many, many times and even on this forum. That a country like Nigeria in 2026, the 21st century has no functional emergency services. No one to call, no system to move the sick and injured to a place of care in a timely and professional manner. Even the nation's capital with all it's gleaming buildings, posh automobiles and trendy shops has no city wide ambulance services....in 2026. The other day it was a well publicized snake bite victim dying in transit because of the three things an established ambulance services addresses. One, professional first aid. Two, speed of conveyance. Three. Knowledge of WHERE specific and appropriate medicare is available and operational. I have heard of many, many other cases where patients are taken from one facility to the other all in vain due to lack of the networking emergency ambulance services provide. When are we going to join the league of development. Medicare is not a product, It is a service. |
