I need advice on my 2007 Toyota Camry 2.4L VVT-i (4-cylinder). 257,000 mileage. I bought the car in Cotonou for 8.7m in March. After replacing the knock sensor and servicing it with Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic oil (advanced synthetic) for high mileage cars. Shortly after, I started hearing a cold-start noise that disappears after a 10 minutes. I spoke to two mechanic and they suggested that it might be water pump, so we bought a new one but issue still persist, we scanned it and Scanning showed P0012 and oxygen sensor (bank 1&2) low voltage codes, and the check engine light stays on. I replaced the VVT-i oil control solenoid (Denso), oxygen sensor(s), and camshaft sprocket with brand-new parts, but the same codes remain. My mechanic has confirmed the timing chain, tensioner, and catalytic converter are all okay. The car also consumes fuel a lot for a 4plugs engine and jerks when o press the brake especially at traffic lights. I've spent over 400k on brand new parts with no solution and have barely driven the car for 3months. Could this be an electrical or wiring issue? I park near a refuse bin where rats are common, so I'm wondering if they may have damaged the wiring. Any advice on what to check next before. I have scanned the car (4x) and the same code P0012 and 02 sensors persist. I am frustrated because a friend who bought the same car (although V6 engine with 205,000 mileage) from USA in April has only changed engine oil and has no complain at all.

Most drivers think engine wear happens when they're driving at high speed or stuck in heavy traffic. Surprisingly, one of the most damaging moments for your engine happens just a few seconds after you start your car in the morning. This is known as a cold start, and many motorists don't realize how important the right engine oil is during this period. What Is a Cold Start? A cold start simply means starting your engine after it has been parked long enough for it to cool down—usually overnight or after several hours. During this time, most of the engine oil has settled back into the oil pan. When you start the engine, the oil pump has to circulate fresh oil to lubricate vital engine components. Until that happens, moving metal parts experience more friction than normal. Why Is Startup the Most Critical Time? During the first few seconds after ignition: - Oil hasn't fully reached every moving part. - Cold oil flows more slowly than warm oil. - Engine components haven't reached their normal operating temperature. - Friction is temporarily higher. This is why lubrication experts often say that a significant amount of normal engine wear occurs during startup. The quicker your engine oil reaches critical components, the better protected your engine will be. What Does the "W" in Engine Oil Mean? You've probably seen engine oils labelled 0W-20, 5W-30, or 5W-40. The "W" stands for Winter and indicates how well the oil flows when the engine is cold. Generally: - 0W flows more easily in very cold conditions. - 5W-30 provides excellent cold-start protection for many modern vehicles. - 5W-40 also performs well during startup while offering a slightly thicker protective oil film once the engine reaches operating temperature. That doesn't mean one is automatically better than the other. The correct choice is always the one recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. Why Oil Quality Matters Choosing the correct viscosity is only half the story. A quality engine oil should also: - Protect against engine wear - Resist oxidation - Prevent sludge formation - Keep the engine clean - Maintain consistent performance throughout the service interval This is why many motorists prefer reputable lubricant brands such as LUKOIL Lubricants, which manufacture engine oils designed to meet modern industry standards and manufacturer specifications. How to Reduce Cold-Start Engine Wear Protecting your engine every morning is easier than many people think. Here are a few simple tips: ✅ Use the viscosity grade recommended in your owner's manual. ✅ Change your engine oil at the recommended interval. ✅ Replace the oil filter whenever you change the oil. ✅ Check your engine oil level regularly. ✅ Avoid revving the engine aggressively immediately after startup. These simple habits can help reduce unnecessary wear and extend the life of your engine. Some Common Myths "Any engine oil is fine." Not true. Using an oil that doesn't meet your manufacturer's specifications can affect lubrication, fuel economy, and engine performance. "I should let my car idle for several minutes before driving." Modern vehicles generally don't require prolonged idling. In most cases, it's better to drive off gently after startup, allowing the engine to warm up under light load. Always follow your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. "If the oil still looks clean, I don't need to change it." Engine oil can lose its protective properties long before it looks dirty. Appearance alone isn't a reliable indicator of oil condition. Final Thoughts Your engine experiences its greatest challenge before you've even left your driveway. Choosing the right engine oil, using a quality lubricant, and sticking to the recommended service schedule can significantly reduce startup wear and help your engine last longer. Remember, the best engine oil isn't simply the most expensive one—it's the one that meets your vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Over to you... Do you normally start your car and drive off immediately, or do you let it idle for a while first? Also, what engine oil grade are you currently using? Let's hear your thoughts and experiences.

Hello all, I will be buying my first car by December. I am considering the Toyota camry 2011 XLE or the 2012-2014 camry. My budget is about 10m - 11m. First question is, are the benefits of the 2012 - 2014 camry over the 2011 model worth hustling for more money to add or I can go for the 2011 model and be rest assured that I am settled for the next 3 - 5 years as regards car? Second question. I was talking to my neighbour who has a Toyota corolla and he said he faces challenges with pot holes because of how low his car is. Does the Toyota camry 2011 or 2012 - 2014 model also face challenge with ground clearance and potholes? Will it be more advisable to go for a Venza because of the better ground clearance? I am not considering the Lexus Rx because I want a car that has good fuel economy |

Why Fast Decisions When Buying a Car Are Often Mistakes. Buying a car is not only an emotional moment — it is also a major financial decision that can affect your budget for years. That is why rushed decisions in the car-buying process often lead to expensive mistakes. Many buyers act too quickly because they are afraid of missing out on the “perfect deal.” A low price, attractive photos, or a luxury-looking vehicle can create pressure to make an immediate decision without taking enough time to inspect the car properly. Unfortunately, hidden problems such as mechanical issues, prior damage, or mileage inconsistencies may only appear after the purchase. Another common mistake is focusing solely on the vehicle's appearance. Some cars look expensive and impressive but may come with high maintenance costs, poor fuel economy, or expensive replacement parts. What seems like a great deal at first can quickly turn into a costly ownership experience. Rushed decisions also prevent buyers from comparing multiple options. Many people purchase the first vehicle they like, even though a better option with lower mileage, better features, or a cleaner history could appear shortly after. This is especially true in the international auto auction market, where inventory changes every day. Vehicle history checks are another critical step that buyers often skip when acting too fast. Reviewing the VIN history, auction details, title status, and previous damage records can help avoid serious financial losses. Without proper research, the risk of purchasing a problematic vehicle increases significantly. We always encourage buyers to take their time and make informed decisions. Spending a few extra days researching and evaluating a vehicle can save thousands of dollars and prevent unnecessary stress in the future. A smart car purchase is never about speed — it is about strategy, patience, and attention to detail. adibo:First of i'd like to say that you can't go wrong with any actually, and if the 2014 is worth saving up for, why not but really it shares the same powertrain ( engine and gearbox, but obviously engineered differently ) the major plus here is the 2014 is more recent compared to the 011 and also a newer body style. For your ground clearance issues, if a Corolla complains of bad terrain then the Camry won't do any better either because the Corolla has a higher ground clearance. And lastly you can probably stick with the venza preferably the 4 plugs variants. If you need a car conciege Service who would help source, inspect and assist with vehicle procurement you can always reach out sir, thank you |

OJURONGBE1:I will suggest you read the wires going to the O2 sensor with a digital meter. You can watch YouTube videos on how to do this. It might be possible that the wires have a problem between the socket and ECU. And you know it's the oxygen sensor that sees about fuel consumption. |

Greetings to all my Engineers and followers. Please, I need a good answer and a follow up to this question, my 2003 Toyota Sports began to develop a great issue which I can’t lay hands where the issue emanated from, first I was driving on a 40 to 50 kmh speed all of a sudden I started hearing a knocking sound which i had to look for an engineer along the road side before the issue might caused damaged on the following services the mechanic confirmed it was a mental issue that need to be changed which afterwards was repaired within one week the following issue started again without no signs on the dashboard. Please I would like to know what might resulted to this issue and what perfect ways can this be rectified all this mechanic have traumatized me to the point I can’t trust any of them out there. Attached is the pictorial representation of the first day the mechanic was working on it.

Morris101686:i guess you meant to say metals which in most cases the connecting rod bearings that's chewed up. the repair carried out should have included crankshaft replacement and a thorough lubrication system check or perhaps an oil pump replacement. at this point you can either opt for a complete rebuild (by a professional) or you buy another engine. the damage could have resulted from critical low oil level or low oil pressure which can be caused by an opening along the oil ways or blockage in the oil ways which can be caused by sludge or solidified sealant squished into the oil ways during engine assembly |

Can the catalysts block the engine? lyort:Thanks, Chief, for your advice. Got a new crankshaft direct Belgium and it comes with metal and oil pump with con-rod happened that two of them was affected
|
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by lyort: 4:03pm On Aug 30*. Modified: 9:13pm On Aug 30 |
Morris101686:yes, a blocked catalyst can restrict exhaust gas flow and eventually damage an engine but this is only possible at certain engine rpm depending on the level of blockage within the catalyst. this blockage usually limits the engine revs to between 2500 to 3500rpm and an obvious sign is excess heat coming from the engine bay. if you run the engine at night, you'll see the exhaust manifold (the network of pipe that goes to the catalyst from behind the engine) glow red but this glow is not visible during the day so you'll only feel it as excess heat radiating out of the engine bay. in lay man's terms, when you match the throttle down to rev the engine to redline, the engine will not rev to 6 or 7000rpm but instead it will be hovering between 2 and 3000rpm |

Pls someone should recommend for me a simple non-professional scanner that can scan engine and transmission codes. Something not too expensive but user friendly that I can pair with phone or tablet. And if you sell one, kindly post with price. Thanks |
