Actually, Yorubas and Igbos brag.

You are Yoruba and would like defend your place.

I am both Igbo and Yoruba so I stand a better chance at truth.

And it has nothing to do with confidence. And nobody sees Yorubas as arrogant. In fact, they majorly see Yorubas as lacking confidence.

But to be loud, both the Igbos and Yorubas are fcking always loud!

These mfs thinking the whole country is always about them!
FSBoperator:
Yorubas are not into bragging.

It is seen as very uncultured and disrespectful to do so.

Yorubas are confident which to some may appear as arrogant

Ibos on the other hand brag and are arrogant in other to appear confident.

Piracy is not a tribe thing.

Both Yorubas and Igbos did it but like I said, you would prefer to shift blames as a softer landing to look good.

You think Alaba then had no Yorubas?

PulaPower:
That’s not what he’s saying. But if that’s what he’s saying, then he’s still wrong..

Yorubas have been selling movies on cassette even to Europe long before Igbo got into the game. And when you people got into the game, you destroyed it with piracy… It is piracy you people are looking at, thinking it was a good thing lol..

People have been watching Nigeria movie cassette/watch at home, before you people came with piracy..

If you grew up in the 90s and 2000s, you'll have to agree with Francis Duru.

Apart from Omotola and a few other Yoruba names, the entire Nollywood was dominated by the Igbos.

Unfortunately for them, that era saw a huge boom in the piracy business

Somehow, the Igbos have lost grip on the entertainment industry and they are now spectators.

Yoruba people are so good.

They are not into cho Cho Cho like the Igbos. They are very strategic.

All we now see from them is WORKINGS
And remember that. .every spectator is either a coward or a traitor- Frances Fanon

You don't think it makes sense that the country seceded along those lines? Or you just enjoy teaching the igbos political lessons while you leech off the oil from the Niger Delta?

The IGR from Lagos and Ogun should be enough to cater for the likes of Ondo and Ekiti, don't you think?
Sure

It was more than enough during regionalism to the extent that we started free education..

He will be put in his place and his lies busted.

Igbos didn't build anything. In fact, they are always looking for what to steal.

Look at soups. They have started calling Egusi soup an Igbo soup.
Look at Asoebi. They are calling it Ashebi and appropriating it.

They are the ones claiming parts of Edo state, parts of Delta state, parts of Rivers state, parts of Kogi state as their land. Wetin?
Can you come to Delta, asaba or pH Rivers to compete with Igbos about who's the owner there.

They are there since God created the earth those Igbos that lost their property are not actually Igbos.

Because in this port Harcourt we have houses we are truly the owner..we speak it as language we eat it as food.
If Igbos can have power far away Lagos then think about pH that is already ours since creation..if you visit here is like every other Igbo cities.

As at when Yorubas started started motion videos, Igbos were not yet wearing clothes.
The first West African film to win an Oscar was actually done in Enugu in the 30s so your statement is filled with falsehood also Enugu was already developed in 1910 and the funds from coal was earmarked to build PH as a city in 1913. So these your lies hold no water.

That Francis Duru word is very incorrect and half truth that could be termed mischievous from a man of his age.

Cinematic part of Nollywood was started by the Yourbas with the like of Hubert Ogunde in the 70's. The Soap-Opera part of Nollywood was first stated by Laolu Ogunniyi in the late 70's (another Yoruba man) and Alade Aromire (again, Yoruba man) started the home videos part of Nollywood in the late 80's that also becomes a critical part of Nollywood today. Nollywood has its root and present day sustenance in the hands of Yorubas, although we cannot deny the fact that the Igbo made Nollywood competitive in the 90's.

I challenge anyone to fact check this. Francis Duru should not tell us that "Living in the bondage" was the beginning of what is called Nollywood today.

The first African movie to win an Oscar was an Algerian movie. That was in 1970.

Daybreak in Udi that won an Oscar was produced in 1950 by the British colonial administration. The producers were Max Anderson and John Taylor. Terry Bishop was the Director. They only hired Igbos to chew sugarcane and pick their teeth while speaking Igbo.

Meanwhile, as at that 1950 that the British were producing movies in Igboland, Yorubas were already producing movies by themselves.

If not that they merged us together in Nigeria, Igbos would be worshipping Yorubas like deities.

Yorubas are very funny people , when they are determined to achieve a feat, they go all the way to achieve it. They created the nollywood but were relegated to the back due to the piracy of our other blodas from the Yeast, Alaba international and Upper and lower Iweka was a dumpsite of all pirated films, including all Yorubas great films. As an artist, you go out to take loan to make films and you hardly reap a quarter of your investments due to the Yeastern blodas calamity. However, things have taken a reversal, digital literacy and online streaming has separated the skillful thieves from the artful skills, even the Igbos actors and actresses have started migrating to Yorubas filming industry. Everyone don dey dey learn to speak Yoruba language so that they can belong. One thing I love about the Yorubas is the fact that they always leave their doors wide open for everyone to come in.....very accommodating tribe....God bless the Yorubas.......

Funke Akindele, Kunle Afolayan, Toyin Abraham, Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim chatta have joined forces with other notable actors to eliminate Oloshoism, piracy, nzogbu nzogbu from Nollywood.

If Duru truly has the talent, let him go and compete

To me ooh, he is right yes Yoruba might be pioneer of stage play, like late Ogunde and Ade Love, the Igbo modernize it into what we call Noollywood today.. Just like he mentioned self center producer loose it when some part begin to embrace their history
.

He is not right. Yourubas had been making home videos right in the 80s before the Igbos even got wind of it. On record, the first home video movie made in Nigeria was made in 1988 - title was Soso Meji produced by Ade Ajiboye. This was followed quickly by Alade Aromire.

And you are wrong about limiting Hubert Ogunde pioneering status to only stage play. Aropin n'Teniyan (1979), Aiye (1980), Jaiyesinmi (1980), Ayanmo (1986) and so many others were cinema movies by Ogunde. Ajani Ogun (1976), Ija Ominira (1979), Kadara (1980), Ija Orogu (1982) were few of Ade Love's cinema movies.

Youruba had always been in Nollywood before the Igbos started at all. The only are of the movie industry the Igbos were prominent was in marketing with the Alaba factor and even that there were cases of piracy which affected the fortune of someone like Moses Olaiya's epic movie Orun Mooru in 1982.

All I have stated above can be researched on the Internet.

Funke Akindele included just go to any African country and ask them if they know those actors they will look at you like you have horns on top your head
But just mention Osuofia,Chinwetalu or Sam loco and see their immediate recognition
Why are you people hell bent on trying to distort facts na😄
Continue to wallow in delusion, I no send you.

The era of nzogbu nzogbu is gone forever.
All the actors you mentioned were popular when piracy , oloshoism and nzogbu nzogbu were reigning supreme in Nollywood.
Today, they no longer get roles
Alaba and Iweka piracy is dead forever.

God has used Funke Akindele, Kunle Afolayan and other great actors of Yoruba extraction to flush out those vices I mentioned above.

Today, Nollywood belongs to the Yoruba the way it used to be before those people introduced piracy and nzogbu nzogbu

I said west African ooooo it is clear that you don't read. And also the movie no more igbo person chewed any sugar cane. Stop trying to be deceitful there was no Yoruba motion movie in the 50s it was only theater production stop your hatred of igbos because it is not helping your life. The Western Region created a television station in the late 50s and you said they made movies.
Now if you must know Igbos overtook the Yorubas in educational enrollment in the 40s and by 1955 igbos had more enrollment numbers in primary and secondary education that made Awolowo introduce free education to play catch up with igbos. Even Awolowo in his autobiography acknowledged that eastern region was far ahead of the western region in roads., education and healthcare. Go and read his autobiography. You are so hate filled, please go and make peace and seek emotional healing.

Igbos CANNOT compete against Yorubas in anything without Yorubas beating them hands down.

There was a time Psquare accused Headies awards of being bigoted against Igbos. They called it a Yoruba award.

When you beat them, they start accusing you of tribalism.
Mr just go and sit down, the contemporary Nigeria movie today known as Nollywood today started by the movie; living in bomdage that featured 99 percent Igbo actors and actresses such as Kenneth Okonkwo Daniel Onuigbo, Ichie million and the rest, followed by other block busters like glamour girls, that featured the likes of Dolly Unachukwu, and other hot stress,
Before arguing blindly, who coined the name Nollywood, is it Igbo or Yoruba? We don't compete with to you people ok, we set the pace and when you appear with your usual jealous coated competition, we quietly leave the stage for you,
Just like the modern Nigeria music making waves all over the world today was started by Psquare, you came with your usual envy filled competition and we left ok, leaving you to wallow in your illusionary competition, someone even claimed Egusi soup is not Igbo delicacy, haha, wonders shall never end, Igbos put Nigeria on the internal map and leave the stage when it becomes ladden with jealousy, now we are focused on prompting only igbo which is fast gaining international recognition
Which of your so called Netflix stars are known internationally in comparison with the likes of Osuofia and Mr Ibu? None knows your actors and actresses dear, Omotola you are bragging about came into limelight through the Igbo dominated movies, no need to educate you, Ogumde this Balogun that, what of the Igbo Production; the New masquerade that exposed Nigeria cinema to the world? We don't compete as I said, we create, then leave the stage when you crawl in with your snake poison jealosy

Francis Duru is wrong. The Igbos are still dominant in the movie industries. It's just that their movies aren't that interesting anymore. The movie producers copy one another's movies and produce them.
Re: Igbos Built Nollywood But Yorubas Have Become Dominant — Francis Duru by lawani(m): 11:09am On Aug 30
So what industry were people like Duro Ladipo, Baba sala, Isola Ogunshola etc? And musicians like Haruna Isola, Dauda Epo Akara, IK Dairo, Fela and etc?

What the Yoruba have is population and hence market. People fail to realize this because of fake census figures.

If Nigeria breaks up today or had broken up fifty years ago, the largest entertainment industry in Africa will still be in the Yoruba country. As a stand alone today the country will still be leading in industrial capacity. It will still have the highest number of globally ranked universities in Africa. It will have more than 7 dollar billionaires scattered all over the world and at home. So population is the main reason. Count the number of well developed cities with a high number of hotels and banks in them in Nigeria and you will see that more than half are on Yoruba land in Nigeria. Say from 20 banks and 50 hotels up.

The thick skulls will never listen even though facts have been presented to them several times that they did not start home video version of Nollywood. Witnesses to the very beginning in the 80s are still very much alive.

My uncle with Nigeria Airways back then was an active investor behind the scene. Both traditional and home video Nollywood were started by the Yorubas. Even the original Surulere crew can't deny this.
