The successful authentication and admission of the United States Embassy clearing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of any criminal charges as far back as 2023 puts to rest any continued claim against the president by any party, especially in the coming presidential election.


According to the letter presented by Tinubu's lead counsel, Olanipekun during proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Court which was authenticated as far back as 2023, the United States Embassy affirmed that the FBI cleared him of any criminal conviction or arrest records. Following recent claims by the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, as well as from lobbyist, one Ikemefuna Okeke Von Batten who has continued to claim that the US government has any criminal records against the Nigerian president, the Nigerian courts in 2023 cleared the president of such claims.

Recall that the document, authenticated as part of the evidence submitted by Tinubu through his lead counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, in 2023, formed one of the central pieces of documentary proof that helped the president successfully defend his victory in the February 25, 2023 presidential election against challenges mounted by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The letter, originating from a 2003 response by a legal attaché at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos to an official enquiry by the then Inspector-General of Police, confirmed that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) checks through the National Crime Information Center returned negative results for any criminal arrest records, wants or warrants against Tinubu. The presidency also maintained that Court records showed the document was tendered alongside academic transcripts from Chicago State University and other immigration records to counter claims raised in Atiku’s petition. Our journalist contacted the US embassy to equally confirm this.

Meanwhile, Abuja political analyst, John Adewale, has said that the claims by the lobbyist are unfounded. According to him, "Mr Ikemefuna Okeke Von Batten's claims are unfounded and they are efforts to try to relitigate a matter already settled by the Nigerian courts." He maintained that Tinubu has no US criminal records.

Ikemefuna's claims cannot be verified even as his claims of being appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as commissioner in the US presidential commission has no official verification from the US government. Checks on his social media page shows that he also posted photos of him and Trump's son, Eric Trump but critics say he wanted it to seem as though it is a recent photo when it's a cropped old photo.

Meanwhile, 24 hours after making the claim, no U.S. government official or publication has mentioned anything about his appointment.
