Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has threatened legal action against the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), over alleged defamatory remarks made during a recent television interview.

In a formal letter of claim issued through his legal team, El-Rufai demanded an immediate retraction, an unreserved apology, and the preservation of relevant evidence.

The letter, dated September 7, 2026, was issued by the Chambers of Ubong Akpan, acting on behalf of El-Rufai.

El-Rufai’s lawyers complained about several statements allegedly made during the programme broadcast on September 3, 2026, including remarks concerning bandits, killings, demolitions, ransom payments and El-Rufai’s alleged conduct while serving as Governor of Kaduna State.

The solicitors described the statements as defamatory and said the broadcast remains accessible through terrestrial television, satellite television and online streaming platforms.

The lawyers gave the defence minister and his representatives 24 hours to acknowledge receipt and seven days to provide a substantive written response to the demands.

They stressed that El-Rufai reserves the right to pursue any legal remedies available to him if the matter is not resolved.

We hear you. There we go again with the self-righteous politics. You never voted for Buhari nor Tinubu but you were not spared from the repercussions of the governance, whether good or bad. Will the unborn generation of the Southeast be exempted from paying the loan of the 15 trillion naira that is being expended on the Lagos coastal road? When you make enemies out of people in politics, always leave room for reconciliation. Otherwise, the ones for whom you have inherited their enemies will pop champagnes on your head as they leave you holding the short end of the stick.

If you say Elrufai's ordeal is penance for making Tinubu president, then I agree with you and I'm sure he is also happy to undergo it so he will come out brand new. But that is his only crime. He was the only person Tinubu practically knelt down to beg and he is also the only person Tinubu is desperate to keep out of the 2027 electioneering. E get why. Tinubu and his lackeys have still been unable to make any charge stick on him so this is no karma. Tables will turn and Elrufai will have his remontada. And if not, the debt will be carried forward. Heads or tail, Elrufai won't lose.
