Even though, I have been condemning today's attack on Peter Obi in Benue state, this should also be a subtle message to the Obidients who have been threatening the Apc supporters can't campaign in some areas.

If Benue people don't want him, that's their democratic right. They can reject him at the rally, reject him at the polls, or simply refuse to listen to him.
No problem.
But let's not confuse one crowd at one rally with the voice of an entire state.

This is an opinionated account of what happened, and that's exactly what it is — one man's interpretation of the event.

What I'd have loved to see is the actual people in that crowd explaining themselves.
What exactly were they angry about? What did they want him to understand?
Why did they reject him?
Let us hear what they were saying.
Let us hear from the people themselves.

And this argument about him coming to “open old wounds” during campaign season doesn't make much sense to me either.
This is a campaign period. What exactly are opposition politicians supposed to campaign about?!

If insecurity has affected Benue people, why can't an opposition candidate go there and talk about it?
Because the attack happened last year?
What makes the wound “old” when people are still dealing with the consequences?
People have been displaced from their ancestral homes and are living in IDP camps in their own state.
Are we seriously saying an opposition politician should not talk about that because it might reopen an old wound?

If Benue people have genuinely moved on and are satisfied with the government's handling of the situation, let them demonstrate that at the ballot.
If they don't want Peter Obi, fine.
But don't take one crowd at one rally, give us one man's interpretation of it, and sell it to us as “Benue people have rejected Peter Obi.”
Let the evidence speak for itself.

If they reject him, they reject him.
That's democracy.
