OPERATION HADIN KAI FOILS TERRORIST ATTACK ON KUKAWA, NEUTRALISES SEVERAL TERRORISTS, DESTROYS MOTORCYCLES …as Coordinated Ground and Air Operations Interdict Fleeing Terrorists Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully foiled a terrorist attack on Kukawa town, Borno State, neutralising several terrorists and significantly degrading the fighting capability and mobility of the terrorist group through a coordinated ground and air response. At about 2250 hours on 28 August 2026, terrorists launched an attack on troops of 101 Special Forces Battalion deployed at Kukawa. The troops responded swiftly with effective direct and indirect fire, successfully repelling the attack and compelling the terrorists to withdraw towards the Cross Kauwa axis. During the fierce engagement, several terrorists were neutralised, while others were observed to have sustained gunshot wounds as they fled the area. Subsequent exploitation by troops led to the recovery of terrorist corpses, further confirming casualties inflicted on the terrorists during the encounter. As the terrorists withdrew towards Cross Kauwa on motorcycles, the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI was promptly coordinated to interdict their movement. Despite challenging weather conditions, the Air Component successfully engaged terrorists taking cover under trees, neutralising an estimated 10 terrorists Thereafter, the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets tracked about 20 motorcycles conveying fleeing terrorists towards the Tunbuns/Kangarwa axis. The intelligence enabled the Air Component to conduct a follow-up precision strike, neutralising an additional 15 terrorists and destroying 10 motorcycles, thereby further degrading the terrorists’ mobility and fighting capability During subsequent exploitation operations, ground troops recovered 2 motorcycles, neutralised an additional terrorist and recovered assorted ammunition and other items. The coordinated ground and air action effectively disrupted the attack, interdicted the terrorists’ withdrawal and further degraded their ability to regroup or conduct sustained operations within the area. Following the engagement, troops were immediately replenished by air with essential combat enablers to sustain operational effectiveness and maintain pressure on the terrorists. Four personnel recorded no life threatening injuries during the engagement. The wounded personnel were promptly evacuated by air for further medical attention and are confirmed to be in stable condition. Troops have since commenced reorganisation and extensive exploitation of the area while battle damage assessment and further evaluation of the encounter are ongoing. The successful defence of Kukawa once again demonstrates Operation HADIN KAI’s capacity to detect, contain and decisively respond to terrorist threats through effective integration of ground forces, air assets and intelligence capabilities. It also underscores the resilience, courage and professionalism of troops operating across the Theatre. The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, remains resolute in sustaining offensive operations, intelligence-led surveillance and coordinated ground and air actions to systematically degrade terrorist capabilities, deny them freedom of action and protect communities across the North East. OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS RECOVER 5 TERRORIST BODIES, RIFLE, DURING EXPLOITATION OPERATIONS IN KUKAWA …Further Evidence of Heavy Losses Following Failed Terrorist Attack Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recovered the bodies of additional 5 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, alongside AK-47 rifles and other items, during ongoing exploitation operations following the recent failed terrorist attack on troops in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State on 29 August 2026. The recovery was made on Thursday 3 September 2026, when troops conducting exploitation operations North-East of Kukawa towards the Jemmu–Alagarno axis discovered the decomposing bodies of 5 terrorists believed to have sustained fatal injuries from air strikes of the Nigerian Airforce platforms in Air Component - OPHK during the earlier engagement and subsequent withdrawal. The discovery provides further evidence of the losses suffered by the terrorists during the failed attack and their subsequent withdrawal from the area. The terrorists had apparently abandoned their dead and wounded colleagues while fleeing under pressure from troops and supporting air operations. During a further search of the area, troops also recovered one solar panel, a camouflage shuttle bag, prayer mat, empty ammunition link and raincoat, among other items. The bodies of the terrorists were subsequently buried in situ, while troops continued to exploit the general area before returning safely to base. The latest discovery brings to 9, the number of additional terrorist bodies so far recovered during exploitation operations following the failed attack on Kukawa, in addition to other equipment and personal effects earlier recovered along the terrorists' withdrawal route. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI remain vigilant and determined to sustain pressure on Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, deny them freedom of action and prevent them from regrouping or threatening communities within the North East zone. The Joint Task Force (North East) commends the troops for their resilience and fighting spirit and reassures the public that operations will continue to consolidate recent gains and create an increasingly secure environment for socio-economic activities across the region. TROOPS OF OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA NEUTRALISE TERRORIST, RECOVER FOUR MOTORCYCLES IN KATSINA Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, neutralised a terrorist and recovered four motorcycles and other items during a dawn offensive operation in Dan Musa Local Government Area of Katsina State on 4 September 2026. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the general area of Yantumaki Forest, troops conducted a coordinated offensive against the terrorists. Troops engaged the terrorists with maximum firepower, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes. During exploitation of the area, troops confirmed the neutralisation of one terrorist and recovered four motorcycles, one mobile phone and five empty intravenous drip containers, suspected to have been used in the treatment of wounded terrorists. The successful operation further demonstrates the unwavering commitment of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustain pressure on terrorist networks, degrade their operational capabilities and deny them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area. OPFY urges the general to continue to support security agencies with relevant information to enable the theatre to eradicate terrorists elements within the Joint Operations Area. TROOPS FOIL TERRORIST AMBUSH, DISMANTLE MAKESHIFT CAMPS IN NORTH EAST, RECOVER RPG BOMBS, MOTORCYCLES AND OTHER COMBAT ENABLERS Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, have on 7 September 2026 successfully foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. The troops, while conducting a routine patrol along the axis, encountered the terrorists and responded decisively, forcing the terrorists to withdraw from the area in disarray. Reinforcement was subsequently deployed, enabling the troops to clear the ambush site and conduct further exploitation of the surrounding area. During the operation, troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps assessed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout locations. Items recovered include one motorcycle, bicycles, one magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade bombs. There were no casualties among own troops during the encounter. However, some military vehicles sustained damage as a result of the engagement. Notwithstanding the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission. The operation underscores the resolve and fighting spirit of troops of Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect communities across the theatre. The general security situation within the area of responsibility remains calm but unpredictable, as troops continue to maintain aggressive patrols and other coordinated security operations to safeguard lives and property. The military urges members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements, persons or activities to the appropriate security agencies. Such timely information remains critical to ongoing efforts to detect, disrupt and neutralise terrorist activities within the theatre. NIGERIA ADVANCES STRATEGIC TRANSFORMATION OF AFRICAN AIR FORCES AS AAAF STRENGTHENS CONTINENTAL COOPERATION The Association of African Air Forces (AAAF), under the chairmanship of the Chief of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has advanced its institutional development and strategic direction following a high-level Planning Conference held from 31 August to 4 September 2026 at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Hosted by USAFE-AFAFRICA, the conference brought together members of the AAAF Permanent Secretariat, AAAFEX 2027 planners, Liaison Officers, working-group representatives and subject-matter experts, including representatives of the System of Cooperation Among the American Air Forces (SICOFAA). The conference focused on translating the outcomes of the 2026 African Air Chiefs’ Symposium in Tunisia into practical initiatives, while advancing the AAAF Procedures Manual, Strategic Plan 2027–2034 and roadmap towards AAAFEX 2029. Key priorities included institutional continuity, strategic communication and stakeholder engagement. In a significant development, Squadron Leader O Lawal of the Nigerian Air Force Directorate of Public Relations and Information was appointed Public Affairs Officer of the AAAF Permanent Secretariat, further reinforcing Nigeria’s contribution to the Association’s institutional development and strategic communication efforts. The appointment is expected to enhance the Association’s visibility, strategic messaging and engagement with member Air Forces, governments, partners and other stakeholders across the continent. The conference also provided an opportunity to draw lessons from SICOFAA on multilateral air force cooperation and identify practices adaptable to the African context. Its outcomes are expected to provide a stronger foundation for implementing AACS decisions, improving institutional coordination and advancing cooperation among African Air Forces. The development further underscores Nigeria’s continued leadership, through the Nigerian Air Force and the chairmanship of Air Marshal Aneke, in building a stronger and more coordinated African airpower community capable of developing African-led responses to shared security challenges. #AAAF #NigerianAirForce #NAF #AfricanAirForces #AirPower #AfricanSecurity #MilitaryCooperation #StrategicCommunication #ContinentalCooperation #Nigeria
