He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by Sirchiboy(op): 3:21pm On Sep 11
My guy in the UK 🇬🇧 wants to buy a Keke for his elder brother in Nigeria.

The man is married with 5 kids, so my guy wants him to have something to hustle with.

But there's a condition: they’ll put everything in writing, and his brother will remit ₦100k every week.

Now family members are calling my guy, asking if he wants to enslave his own elder brother because he wants to help him.

My guy's argument is simple: “It's a business. ₦100k weekly is the standard return for Keke drivers,”

My guy is asking me if he went too far.🤔

He went too far. When it comes to family members (especially immediate ones), it is disgusting to monitize the help.

It is either you are helping with no strings attached or you are not.
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by showboy2301: 3:36pm On Sep 11
It’s better to give it to an outsider than his brother, or to reduce the weekly returns so that his brother can be comfortable too. Meanwhile the brother will make some money on the keke unless he’s lazy.

It’s a good business idea though
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by dominique(mod): 4:00pm On Sep 11
This is so belittling my goodness! He does not want to help his brother, he wants to do business and have his older brother as his worker, very wrong on many levels. If Keke business is entering his eyes, he should buy it and give it out to to a non relative or a younger relative.

most family members are entitled and wont follow through with the agreement

I would also do same. Some people would only make u buy things like that or invest in a business they know it's not going far. The younger brother did well.

The fact that he's living in Uk doesn't mean he's financially okay
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by thesicilian: 4:07pm On Sep 11
What can he do if his brother refuses to remit?
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by SmartMaster001: 4:07pm On Sep 11
100k weekly kwa? First buy the keke, e go shock you say later your elder brother go do you bad when he feels like you are just using him. It's better you just help him with no strings attached.

Depends on what the guy us trying to achieve. It Na help, no need monetizing it. But if it's business, he should look for someone else
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by ibroyal(f): 4:07pm On Sep 11
I think the brother should accept and negotiate with him to come down a little with the weekly returns, half bread is better than none, after all no one know what the one abroad is going through at the moment.

To be honest, as an elder brother, I'll prefer this and retain some dignity, than for him to give me and later be rubbing it to my face.
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by Hemanwel(m):
On the other hand, maybe the UK-based brother wanted his elder brother to just be serious with the business. Maybe he bought it for him but didn't want to tell him directly. Just maybe.
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by myrygurl: 4:08pm On Sep 11
Maybe the elder brother doesn't know how to manage money/business.
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by SonOfWords(m): 4:08pm On Sep 11
It's not going to end well.

It's always better to do this nature of business with outsiders, so you can handle misdemeanors with a firm resolve.

If you want to empower a relative, simply do so freely to avoid subsequent headache.
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by gracias124: 4:11pm On Sep 11
he is not trying to help his brother at all, If i am the guy I will buy it for my brother without demanding anything from him but He should stop asking me for financial assist unless an emergency
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by lightwind(m): 4:12pm On Sep 11
What kind of rubbish remittance is that one, does he think it's easy to save 50k in a week from driving Keke on the road inside this 1350 per liter of fuel ?

If he really wants to help his elder brother he should tell him to be remitting 30k every week considering the fact that he has 5 children already.

At least it's fair
Re: He Wants To Buy A Keke For His Elder Brother In Nigeria by Stephen0mozzy: 4:12pm On Sep 11
Well, it's not the help of a brother, if he's still expected to pay standard fee.

However, it is still help nonetheless. If everyone was willing to trust handling over keke to people, the elder brother would not have needed his help. But the UK brother is still willing to take the risk.

Secondly, many people do not take businesses started with generosity very seriously, especially because they didn't stress to get the capital. You've seen and heard of cases where Mr A will setup a business for Mr/Mrs/Miss B and they will round the business to the ground only to say "that's not the business I wanted to do".

I would rather they appeal to the brother to ease the burden of the weekly returns, giving his brother a long time to pay back. But not to be demanded as if it's an entitlement. Yes, there are responsibilities we have to our loved ones, but that love doesn't mean you should dictate how your brother shows kindness to you with his money.

If you have a kind and loving sibling, you nor know wetin God do for you.

This is the way we are taught. I will quote your major religions for you.

People often forget what they once said but they will not forget what they wrote. When they do, we will show them what they used their own hands to write.

SixSeven:
You owe no one. There's nothing like ingrate. You came to life differently. It's entitlement that makes people think someone else has to do something for them. No one owes you anything, the earlier you learn that and know that, the easier for you to not be disappointed in this life. In fact, it will make you appreciate what you take for granted because an ingrate is not usually grateful for what they get for free.

Are we not seeing first borns now complaining that they are bearing responsibilities or regretting that they could have spent that money on themselves but gave it back and it never stops? Be real. Our society is communal and all of that but people take that association for granted but if you die today, they will find a way to live without you. That should tell you a lot. You are not indepsensable. Life can and will move on with or without you.

The brother was not in any way entitled to his brothers wealth. I believe if he refused to buy the keke, life will still go on anyway.
On the issue of having 5 kids, what if the man was well to do when he had the kids and misfortune happened?
So if he wants to help his brother there should not be strings attached.

He should have told his older bro that he should do the remittance for a particular number of months after which the keke becomes his own forever.
I don't know how some people think, buying keke for business for his bro is a commendable effort, it's not enslavement.
All the people saying what he did was bad, should ask the older bro how much this guy has given him over the years without asking him to pay back
