The Chinese must go home.
Those trying to frame this as the practice of free trade should just zip it. Likewise, those who see this as the ultimate weapon to push certain people off their pedestal in Nigerias retail business, should see the bigger picture. This is above petty politics so let's be guided...

The Chinese mass produce these goods, they then come down here to mass wholesale it, then they retail it. Some are now involved in hawking stuffs like mobile phones and battery across Nigerian cities.
That is outrageously evil..
It has to stop!

If they take the whole business line, where will Nigerians be involved? How do Nigerians in the informal sector survive? Why should the government allow such imperialist move that will result in maximum capital flight? Even in china, they once banned foreigners, especially Nigerians from opening shops. They only lifted that recently with a caveat that there must be Chinese employed and taxes paid!
Mind you, we are talking of shops that wholly sell Chinese products here..

The Nigerian government should move above ethnic sentiments and defend the country. The informal sector/agriculture provide most of the job opportunities for the endless quantity of untrained humans in this country. The Chinese who rarely embrace Nigerians in their countr,y should not be allowed to wrestle that space away from the firm grip of ordinary struggling Nigerians..

Thank you all!
Keep quiet and leave the Chinese alone.
You are among the people shouting xenophobic blabla when South African were chasing Nigeria traders out of their kentry.

You all said Lagos is a 'no man's land'.
The Igbos should reduce their own price if they want to be patronised like the Chinese.

Their greed is too much.

Let them go to aba or Onitsha market and protest

Sometime make una dey reason things well before una post.
For example, you get factory wey dey produce bottle water. I dey come buy from you wholesale to go resale at retail price at my area or unit.
Then you the manufacturer come still carry the product come my domain come dey sell at your wholesale price to my retailers. How do you want me to feel?
.
I stay in Igbesa Ogun state just close to the Chinese free trade zone that have over 200 Chinese companies producing different types of comodities, and hundreds of trucks and trailers go out from the zone everyday to go supply their various clients and customers which includes the trade Fair market dealers.
Isn't that ought to be enough for them Chinese, why bring the goods down yourself to this traders domain and start selling at wholesale price.
How do you want the other traders buying from your factory to make their money and come buy from you.

Who are they expecting to drive the chinese retail traders for them is it the lagos state govt that has been looking for ways to get rid of them in lagos? Let the igbo traders just reinvent and restructure their business to keep up with the changing business environment.

If the Chinese are selling it cheaper, then it means the goods can be sold at lower prices, but the traders choose to sell higher. It's a free market, not a monopoly. If they want to compete with the Chinese then they should lower their prices.
You think Chinese business men/women love you more, until they destroy the Nigerian SMEs business and go back to their country while you and your people remain poor. Think why Europe is trying to regulate their cheap electric cars in European markets over their own. Every reasonable government will try to protect their own, and homegrown products. Just like Dangote said: it's only Africans that develop Africa. If a Nigerian make money he uses it to develop Nigeria, same can't be said of Chinese in Nigeria. There should be higher taxes for foreigners doing retail business in Nigeria, that's if Government not banning them completely, to protect Nigeria Small Scale Businesses. Think!

The Chinese retailers will help us avoid fake products!
Go to Alaba and many places. Fake tvs everywhere.
That is what the Chinese retailers will stop. Lagosians can enjoy the value of their money after years of fake products patronage.
Those that can’t stand competition should close down.
This is Lagos!

Go where? The Ibos are the ones that needs to go.

Ibo traders sell at inflated prices while the original Chinese producers sell at pocket friendly factory prices.

Talking about factories, the Chinese set up their Manufacuring Facilities here in Yorubaland, employ Yoruba skilled and unskilled workers, pay taxes and royalties to Yoruba Governors. Engage in CSR projects etc.

Despite the excesses of the Chinese which can be managed through effective legislation, they still add value to the socio-economic sector of Yorubaland
Don't be in a hurry to look at this matter in a simplistic view and use it to fuel your tribal disdain for the Igbos. The matter needs to be looked into in details because it can worsen the Nigerian economy. Remember the money the Chinese makes here will be moved to China.

After reading majority comments, I just can't help but shake my head.
This tribalism thing has really eating deep into our fabrics especially from Igbo and Yorubas.
Anything that will bring one tribe down is giving joy to the other tribe vice versa.
Honestly as an Igbo man born and brought up in the West. I hardly put mouth into this two tribes matters.
Cus I have good and jolly good friends from both sides of the divides.
.
Now to this Chinese issue, one tribe is happy that the Chinese wants to deprive the other tribe from making money and feel the Chinese are right with what they're doing. But I disagree.
I live in Igbesa Ogun state close to the Chinese free trade zone that has over 200 companies inside the zone producing different types of products you can think of that human beings uses.
Everyday, we watch over 100 trucks and trailers carrying goods to go supply customers outside the state which includes this trade Fair traders.
The Chinese are supplying this traders at wholesale prices, and this traders will still pay transportation to bring the goods to them.
With this, they have certain amount they'll sell the goods to retailers.
Then you as the Chinese companies supplying this traders now decided to bring the goods yourself to their domain and sell at your company's price against the traders retail price.
How does this make sense?
Pls guys let's leave tribal sentiment at times and think about most of the things properly, thanks.

Government will not ban them from selling their original products because some few greedy business men want to sell fake products to us at exorbitant prices.
The government will listen to well meaning Nigerians not greedy marketers and their unions.

This is not supposed to be tribalised those chinese retail traders can also go into businesses that yorubas dominate in future. A reasonable govt is supposed to intervene to regulate the business environment so that the chinese won't take away businesses and jobs of law abiding hard working nigerians, nigeria is not a banana republic where anything goes.

Nigeria is a free trade zone , anything to improve the economy is welcomed.
This is not going to improve any economy, it is going to kill it! My goodness we're poorly educated in this country sha. There's not one single country that wants to grow its economy that would allow a foreign country to establish a retail warehouse within their borders. This is simple basic economic knowledge, exactly how textile died in Nigeria.

You're looking at it from a tribalistic point of view.

The Chinese setting up warehouse in Nigeria should be condemned by everybody that understands economics.

Instead of them to set up factories to produce the goods here, they are setting up warehouse, which will invariably kill the local economy.

As a buyer, it looks good but if you look at it in the long term, it is very bad. It is not just about igbos. Every tribe has retailers that buys goods overseas and sell in Nigeria. What happens when those people can't compete?
What happens to your brother/sister working in those retail shops? It will affect everyone.

In fact, if you observe our economy, you will notice that since we tilted towards China and abandoned the USA, that is when things began to get worse because Chinese don't build factories unlike USA. They prefer to produce in China and sell in Nigeria.

USA companies will prefer to set up factories in Nigeria due to cheap labour but Chinese will prefer to manufacture in China and sell in Nigeria. We complain of unemployment but fail to understand these things.

Instead of warehouse, let them build factories here, produce it here and sell it cheaper. Everybody wins.
Carry your wailing commot here.
Chinese own factories every where in Yoruba land.

It's your people who only believe in importation of substandard products.

Leave Chinese alone, Lagos belongs to Yoruba Nation

The only difference is that the Chinese sells original products why you sell fake products to kill the economy and frustrate Nigerians more.

It is crazy how Nigerians are welcoming an economy killing move just to satisfy tribal and ethnic sentiments.

The Chinese are about to break the back bone of those importers and their exploitative middle men tendencies.

Within the last few years more than One Hundred Chinese Factories have opened up in Ogun State. New Factories and Ware Houses keeps springing up left, right and center all over the Lagos-Ogun Indsutrial Corridor.

While this appears to be a good development, I will encourage Yoruba Governors to tighten their labour laws and enviromental regulations, and ensure strict compliance to same, for the optimum benefit of Yoruba land and Yoruba People.
The bolded finish work.

Afterall the indigenous people too are not producing, they are also importing.

You are wrong. The ultimate winners are the common Nigerians who will be able to afford cheap goods and services offered by Chinese men.

The affected middle men should go and look for another idea to fuse into their business and out-compete the Chinese.

They should merge and pull higher finances to buy in larger scale and dethrone the Chinese.

Please allow Nigerians enjoy cheap goods once, the country is too expensive enough. Ordinary Nigerians are more in number, in short in millions, than the middle men who are profiters.

But when the South Africa were protesting against other Africans including the igbos people who own small enterprise businesses there, chasing every Africans away you were complaining it is xenophobia. The truth about the igbos in businesses is that they are just too greedy. The car that cost let say 20 million for the total cost to bring it down to Nigeria and clearing from China you brought it to Nigeria and want to sell it 42 million. You guys are just too greedy it is in your DNA. Let the Chinese be.
