IyfeNamikaze:It’s the same thing. You’re not just thinking it straight. Chinese sell a product for 100#. Nigeria marketers buy and sells for 250#. The person that loses here is the customers. We’re just collecting money from Mr A and giving it to Mr B in the same country. Chinese will always get their 100# manufacturer price. Now the Chinese came and start selling at 180# as a retailer. They live here with us and send 100# back to china. The end users are happy, Chinese manufacturers are happy with positive feedback, and their sales rep enjoying 80# spends the money in our economy because they live with us like the Lebanese also. |

IyfeNamikaze:The reason you dominate Lagos retail sector is because Alex Ekwenme as head of Shagari's economic team liberalised imports. That led to local industries closing down and since you guys established links in foreign countries earlier, the retail sector that used to have Yorubas dominate trade evaporated. Now you guys have been enjoying that monopoly on imported goods which is also a major drain on FX which your region contributes zilch to . That monopoly led to you guys exploiting the populace. Now that Chinese are selling far cheaper you are now telling us that we should protect your business that depends on same Chinese imports. Your import based retailers have done far more damage to Nigeria's industrial base and economy as a whole and you are telling me to support you in kicking the Chinese out because theu are selling far cheaper than you. We don hear you. |

You are full of hatred.Igbos buy Dangote cement, Dangote is not Igbo.FirstBank,GTB etc are mostly owned by Yorubas yet millions of Igbos own accounts in those banks.ETC Get a life, find something useful to do with your life and purge your heart of the evil and hatred it is full of,it is unhealthy for you. Mynd44:It is more different than the South Africa at least those are black and people fighting against black, but is a Chinese leaving their first or second world country to a third world country to dominate does that make sense I don't support what South Africans are doing but it will first to second world country coming to dominate or take over the businesses of a a common man in the third world country it doesn't make absolute sense, they should be restricted to factory creation only, and create more jobs for the common Nigerians |

Kalulu44:Alright Lagos state as a state don’t deprive businesses. The only businesses Nigerian government can defend and fight for against foreign investors are the manufacturing industry. Anything importation is ruled out. Know this and know peace. |

tollyboy5:Can you even listen to yourself? If the Nigerian retailer sells at ₦250, he still spends that ₦250 within the Nigerian economy, the government extracts taxes based off the ₦250 which means that the economy is growing by 12.5. BUT if the Chinese sells it at ₦180 and sends the ₦100 back to china, not only have the economy lost that ₦100, it has also lost a sizable percentage of its IGR by -4.2 . I can't believe what I'm reading on this site sha, it's like the government should make Economics compulsive for EVERY discipline in the university. |

IyfeNamikaze:The core reason is failed was high production cost as a result of power failures. The factories had to raise product costs to survive and that's where textile import/smuggling did them dirty. |

Nigerians in SA are not the manufacturers of the products they sell or market there same can't be said about the Chinese. They cripple indigenous businesses wherever they are allowed to operate and compete with the locals. And you know what, the capital goes back to China while this of our citizens remains here. There are laws to protect local and smallscale businesses. I cannot remember what it is called, but it exists. Since Temu and Shein started shipping to Nigeria, I haven't bought casual clothes from overpriced Lagos vendors. Same with kiddies clothes. I can only imagine what my former vendors are going through. So I understand their grievances. |

ARISHEM:Foreigners have been dealing in Yorubaland since 12th century.. See, before I continue, first of all thank God if you be Yoruba.. ( Go explain more as per why later) Foreigners have been becoming something in Yoruba land right from centuries.. Foreigners have been engaging in our political & kingship leadership from the centuries. For example, Obatala, as I heard but haven't confirmed, wasn't a Yoruba but a Nupe man... Imma still confirm and give update later. So, from Yoruba culture, lifestyle and tradition, were people who have always been open to visitors. It has always been a land of growth & business.. So, you're completely right. I only added what I said cuz I wanna add more to your point.. |

![]() erniok:At least the Chinese are not dragging Lagos with us It is the same people who mass imported Textiles into Nigeria until Nigeria's Textile companies collapsed that are protesting now because it doesn't favour them. They should carry their protesting to Onitsha Market if they cannot rebuild those industries Lagos and SW are ready to work productively with the Chinese to benefit everyone Please kindly post the address and phone numbers of the Chinese shops so we can Make sure all our people patronise them. Awolowo brought the Lebanese and we all prospered together By God's Divine Mercy we will also prosper with the Chinese |

The Chinese are highly welcome. Most of the goods sold in their shops are of high quality Better to patronize a China shop than those fake merchant. If u can't compete with them close shop and go home. |

The truth is that these Chinese people bring in cheaper inferior products and because Nigeria is a poor country who only goes for cheaper products and not durable products. A typical Chinese man will open a warehouse without papers or even joining any existing unions. It's bad and if the government doesn't start addressing these issues, I see it getting out of control. They can't go to countries like US or Europe and start dominating their economy. Government of such countries will support their citizens first before those Chinese |

Inosky:Your analysis is weak and shows your being biased. Prolly cuz you're from the east. This is like growing SMEs more. If, let say, 10m are into SMEs in Nigeria. And now, with the Chinese, the numbers increases to 30m SMEs, how's that destroying SMEs? |

PulaPower:Just hear yourself talk, people selling cement close to Dangote cement company are selling in retails e.g one one or two two to ten or there about. Dangote company can't sell one bag of cement for you or anybody when they know their distributors are beside them. Which is what this Chinese companies wants to do. Banks can't do withdrawal of 1k again which is what POS is now for. Coca cola company can't sell one bottle to you when they know their distributors are out there. So what are you not saying |
