izzou:To me, the government at Federal and state levels just want the easy way out by jacking up schools while promising they would raise the standard of learning/education in government owned varsities. They just want to keep spending money on other irrelevant stuff that neither build human capital nor bring development society while government officials & politicians don't have their funding cut. Lagos state government that has tax collection running on Steroids will tell you it cannot afford to make LASU, LASPOTECH and Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education affordable for the public.....but when u look at government officials, lawmakers and political appointees feeding fat on tax payers' money u just know these people don see mugu's to whine well well. If you tour business districts like V.I, Marina and co while observing the thousands of companies domiciled in these areas and you start imagining the kind of Corporate Income Tax, Land use charge and other form of taxes the government gets from these businesses. Then you go to Markets like Computer Village, Trade Fair, Alaba, etc and also think about the kind of income the state government generates from businesses domiciled within these areas ....etc you will have a faint idea of the kind of money the government makes. Never mind the state government has refused to domestic FOI bill and will not respond to you if you make a formal or informal request as a citizen/taxpayer to know exactly what the state makes. But the government will tell you they cannot make any of the public institutions accessible without increasing fees. Nigerian politicians are the luckiest in the world for the kind of citizen wey dem dey lead sha. |

iamoyindamola:My Landlord sent me Tokens that was sent to him by IKEDC on Sunday for my flat and pumping machine's Prepaid meter (He registered both meters with his phone number). I loaded the tokens and got 9.2 unit as refund for my flat's meter while the pumping machine paid meter got 43 units as refund. So, I can say the refund is real. What I can't say is if they will later find ways to remove it from us later sha, but I want to think that shouldn't happene since it is the regulator that forced them to do the refund. |

BlueRayDick:Nigeria has a way of messing one's thought process, that you may not to decipher what's right from wrong. I watched a video of Ortom saying he took Benue state government to court because they seized 23 cars that belonged to him. The Interviewer asked him how he got 23 cars. He said it's a tradition that a governor leaving would take all the vehicles assigned to him. If you gather 1 million indigenes of Benue and explain this story to them, they won't be vexed to do anything. That's how Nigeria has deformed our thought process |

iamoyindamola:this is how it can be we can continue giving people cheap education where they spend 8 years in university for a 4 year course and come out at a disadvantage compared to people in private universities , or we can start paying full price when you say a person enjoyed free education - what did he enjoy exactly? even free secondary school, what was actually enjoyed? i started wearing glasses in js1 because my free school did not have light and i was reading with lantern. what exactly is the free education we are celebrating here? getting thrown into a course with no value, sadistic unaccountable lecturers with 1970s materials? |

izzou:The bold is just my concern, it seem we've lost the ability to be enraged by the things that should make one seriously vexed bas a citizen. Na yeye things we come dey vex on top. |

Amigoos1:Nigerians just like osho free things from government. Tuition still remains free in all federal university. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:20am On Sep 15 |
BlueRayDick:I have no issues if APC paid agents or political hopefuls defend it. My concern is how an average or poor man can't think. Let me give you another instance Margaret Obi, a private citizen, who's husband has no keys to the public vault is dragged for holding a bag worth hundreds of millions. Meanwhile, Tinubu has spent 37 billion naira on foreign trips since 2023. The highest ever done since 1914 He has also spent 260plus days on vacation since 2023. That's how Nigeria has messed up the brains of its people. Wetin dey abnormal don dey normal |

izzou:Na people wey u expect to be vexed go dey make excuse for them sef. They might tell you that there's no law against the president going for vacation abroad. Anytime I see people making such head-scratching discussion to denfend the indefensible, I go just shake my head. |

izzou:What is it about? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 12:26pm On Sep 15 |
, x BlueRayDick:Globalisation For years hustlers masquerading as businessmen became millionaires and billionaires from selling cheap Chinese goods at 400% plus mark up Now the Chinese have wised up and are in Nigeria cutting out the middleman |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 12:48pm On Sep 15 |
BlueRayDick:Chinese don flood Nigerian market and are now retailing sef. Importer & Exporter don dey cry. ![]() What is even funnier is that leaving the market changes nothing. The Chinese can still establish it anywhere and make their sales |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 12:55pm On Sep 15 |
izzou:And with the Chinese you have more confidence you are actually buying the original or the at least the first grade knock off. Not the grade 4 knock off at price of original |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 1:02pm On Sep 15 |
izzou: GloriousGbola:Oh, I see...... So the super-wholesalers have become retailers and retailers now want them out before the suffocate them? The thing is not peculiar to trade fair now, sometime ago I saw posts on social media promoting a particular mega chinese warehouse on the island. Funny thing is the Chinese are even paying Nigerian influencers to direct retailers to their stores. But come to think of it, other countries dey make laws to protect local businesses ......but the truth is such countries also protect consumers from exploitation and the greed of retailers for abnormal profit. |

GloriousGbola:I bought one Iphone cord from one Chinese store called MINISO at Ikeja City Mall earlier this year. I've used the cord for almost 9 months and no sign of it going bad or failed performance. If na the ones I dey buy from from those guys selling in local stores or even Computer village sef (no matter how expensive it is), the thing go don cast since. |

GloriousGbola:I don't know why they didn't see this coming They had decades to structure themselves as indispensable, but "Buying and Selling" is the only vision they had. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 1:17pm On Sep 15 |
BlueRayDick:When Nigerians were setting ring light in China to show how cheap things were in the name of "Business", I knew we were inviting price crashers. Most of all these items are things that can be produced here. Why can't these guys pool resources together to do it here? We import cotton buds, threads and very funny stuff. After spending 20 years making billions, why not produce here so you can change the game however you want? Those protests mean nothing. People will go and find those Chinese wherever they are |

GloriousGbola:Also needs to be said that the number of students in all Nigerian universities in the 70s that you mentioned might not be more than 5000. Now some faculties in a single University might be over 5000 student How much the FG was spending for free education in 1973 wont even fund a University today and we have like almost 100 Universities |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 1:26pm On Sep 15 |
iamoyindamola:Reform that matches current economic realities. Not that we will be talking about the days when 17k Naira can buy a brand new car or when our parents graduated and got a govt job waiting for them with official cars |
