The Chinese should be restricted to factory establishments only in Nigeria.

You can’t just allow them come to start doing retails and clearing out competitors that don’t have as deep pockets as them.

Na so una do take kill SMEs all in the name of looking for Foreign investments.

To those of you saying it’s good because it affects a tribe. All I’ll tell you is don’t worry. No Nigerian retailer or wholesaler can compete with the Chinese if this isn’t stopped. Even those of you that sell voile lace, Ankara, and other native fabrics won’t survive this. There’s nothing sold here in Nigeria that’s not coming in from China. They will out sell every one of you and put you out of business.

Shey they’re already marketing and selling Chinese made cars directly here? E go touch everybody round.
Lagos and SW wants the Chinese retailers.
They are good for consumers
Prices of many consumer goods needed for Business like Solar panels, inverters, Computers and Phones will reduce and people would be able to invest their savings in viable industries like Agriculture

This type of Competition is good
The Chinese have also established Factories in SW

The ones we don't want them to engage in like Ankara , Adire and Aso Oke production
we the people of Yorubaland will inform them ourselves

The people quoting me to support the protest are probably relatives of these traders who have been ripping the end users off for so many years.
In a free market where there is a price war, the ones who profit the most are the consumers. If the traders insist on selling at exploitative rates then the Chinese entering the market to beat the prices down is long overdue.
Did China become an industrial and economic powerhouse by having a free market for importers?

The truth is that these Chinese people bring in cheaper inferior products and because Nigeria is a poor country who only goes for cheaper products and not durable products. A typical Chinese man will open a warehouse without papers or even joining any existing unions. It's bad and if the government doesn't start addressing these issues, I see it getting out of control. They can't go to countries like US or Europe and start dominating their economy. Government of such countries will support their citizens first before those Chinese
Are those igbo not selling China substandard products.

Alright Lagos state as a state don’t deprive businesses. The only businesses Nigerian government can defend and fight for against foreign investors are the manufacturing industry.
Anything importation is ruled out.
Know this and know peace.
I'm not against that. I'm against what the Chinese are doing.
Besides Coca cola or Pepsi factory, you will see shops selling their products.
If you enter those companies and say you want to buy one bottle of those drinks bcus it's sold at maybe #400 inside company as against #500 outside, the company will not sell to you, they'll still direct you to go outside and get them.
Same with Dangote Cement, Alcoholic beverages companies.
So why do the Chinese now brought the product to where their distributors are and now selling cheaper.
Aren't you thinking what I am thinking

The Chinese must go home.
Those trying to frame this as the practice of free trade should just zip it. Likewise, those who see this as the ultimate weapon to push certain people off their pedestal in Nigerias retail business, should see the bigger picture. This is above petty politics so let's be guided...

The Chinese mass produce these goods, they then come down here to mass wholesale it, then they retail it. Some are now involved in hawking stuffs like mobile phones and battery across Nigerian cities.
That is outrageously evil..
It has to stop!

If they take the whole business line, where will Nigerians be involved? How do Nigerians in the informal sector survive? Why should the government allow such imperialist move that will result in maximum capital flight? Even in china, they once banned foreigners, especially Nigerians from opening shops. They only lifted that recently with a caveat that there must be Chinese employed and taxes paid!
Mind you, we are talking of shops that wholly sell Chinese products here..

The Nigerian government should move above ethnic sentiments and defend the country. The informal sector/agriculture provide most of the job opportunities for the endless quantity of untrained humans in this country. The Chinese who rarely embrace Nigerians in their countr,y should not be allowed to wrestle that space away from the firm grip of ordinary struggling Nigerians..

Thank you all!
The truth, the fact, you just laid bare absolutely correct . Fear the Chinese, they are the 21st century hegemonist empire and we shouldn't fold our arms at the practice of a rapidly rising economy powerhouse even another established world power , USA is having a serious trade war with . No one can convince me the semitic biblical God's people are more cunning and ruthless in business as these Chinese people .
That said , every monopolistic practices the Chinese do in that now threatens Nigeria' business , everything you wrote out there Is just bigger sharks chasing off sharks from the waters . At what point do we begin to see the two as same sharks ibut in different sizes exploiting Nigerians ? Aside the very valid long term adverse effect of our economy suffering the maximum capital flight why shouldn't consumers embrace goods and services at cheaper prices in this present economy ? Why has the price of say, a Fireman branded generator plug not come down from 1500 - 1700 from when petrol prices first hit 1100 naira in 2023 even when petrol later became as low as 680 naira ?. Now it is 2000 naira as we speak . Yes, we blame strait of Hormuz for now innit ? Look, we can't ask for government intervention now in a capitalist market when we were saying government can't enforce price control or curtail arbitrary price increase from marketers because they ( marketers) say government didn't buy their goods nor pay for the clearing cost for their imported goods from China . Well now, are the Chinese selling cheaper not also paying the government of Nigeria for the same imported goods ? Nigerians too must help the government to curb the threat the oriental people pose to Nigerian owned business by not being greedy. Let's not even start the menace of many dishonest , sharp practices Nigerian traders engage in with unsuspecting customers . Selling copper plated aluminium as copper , selling 2022 model as 2025 , substandard products flooding the markets etc.

See a manufacturer manufactured a product outside your country but comes to your country to retail it, yet you see nothing wrong with it.

I tell you bro. And after Vdm, the matter don spread on TikTok. I’ve seen videos of several Nigerians asking why Nigeria importers have been ripping them for long..

As par the Igbo matter here, their pain is that, what they used to import 5k and then sell 35k isn’t working anymore. This is even despite that what they do import are usually fake things!

Now, Chinese are here selling more durable thing and at less price..

Their pains came out from selfish interest! If they really cared, they wouldn’t have been rippin..

Make I even tell you, it was Nigerians that told Chinese they’re welcome, after Nigerians saw that things are not actually expensive like they’ve been always saying..

So because the retailers are Chinese means they are the ones producing the goods in china ?

The Chinese retailing in Nigeria might not be the manufacturer but they have certain advantages than the average Nigerian traders .

These Chinese sell cheaper than the traders. That should say something.

Nigerians are quiet strategist..

Wait-o. Is it true that fg allowed foreigners to establish retail outlets in Nigeria.

Is it the same FG that revoked Ibeto's Cement Licence, to allow Dangote Cement to monopolise Cement Industry during Obasanjo's regime?

Oya, flood the market with foreign rice, open the borders, & remove all tariffs so Other countries can flood Nigerian market & industries with their cheapest goods & services & repatriate the funds & crash the economy & obliterate the GDP.

This should be investigated & stopped immediately b4 I call fg & the trade regulators "crassly stupid"!
G. B. A. M !
Plus prices of goods sold by Nigerian retailers must be regulated by the government to check arbitrary increase in goods prices so that the devil offering us salvation in form of much cheaper prices will later not hold us by the neck after local competitors have folded up a la Dangote cement.

Go and establish your own connect in china if you want to compete.

You guys have no idea what you’re supporting.
Those fake products came from China, youre correct..

But in China, they can make a shoe of $1 and 7$. Igbo people will buy the one of $1 and be selling at 7$ prices… You spot the difference?

Now, Chinese are here, selling what’s $1, $1 and what’s $7, $7

Go where? The Ibos are the ones that needs to go.

Ibo traders sell at inflated prices while the original Chinese producers sell at pocket friendly factory prices.

Talking about factories, the Chinese set up their Manufacuring Facilities here in Yorubaland, employ Yoruba skilled and unskilled workers, pay taxes and royalties to Yoruba Governors. Engage in CSR projects etc.

Despite the excesses of the Chinese which can be managed through effective legislation, they still add value to the socio-economic sector of Yorubaland

If you were producing these goods here under your brand name , we will support you and also offer protectionist policies to ensure you are still in business.

But you don't produce shishi .

And if you go back in history you will see that it was Alex Ekwenme as head of Shagari's economic team that liberalised imports that benefited his people at the detriment of local industries.

Now that we are import dependent because of Ekwenme's economic policies that targeted SW industrial base why should I pay more for same imported goods made in china when I can patronise a Chinese retailer selling far cheaper ?

Oga, go and secure land in your village so you can start farming.
