Who else experienced the crazy traffic around Iyana-Oworo, Ojota, Berger and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway yesterday? I was travelling yesterday and spent over four hours just trying to get to Ikeja. At some point, I had to turn off around 7UP and try the Secretariat/Alausa route, thinking I would escape the traffic. That side was also seriously blocked because many other motorists were apparently trying the same alternative routes, while some still needed to connect back to the expressway. It was crazy. I later found out that the major problem was around Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Repair work is already ongoing on the bridge, with some lanes restricted. Then yesterday, accidents involving heavy vehicles around the Kara axis made an already bad situation much worse. The traffic eventually stretched through Berger and reportedly as far back as Iyana-Oworo, also affecting traffic coming from the Third Mainland Bridge. Reports this morning say some motorists were trapped in the gridlock for several hours. The Kara Bridge repair itself is expected to continue until September 22, so people who regularly use that route may need to plan their movements carefully for now. I am also hearing that the traffic is still bad today and that some ride-hailing drivers are already cancelling trips around the affected areas. I haven't independently confirmed that part yet. Who else experienced yesterday's traffic? How many hours did you spend on the road? And for those around Berger/Kara today, what is the current situation?

The terrible traffic jam has spread to Ogba and Ikeja. Everywhere is blocked and people are stranded. Most people are even trekking coupled with high price of fuel. Nigerians are really suffering. |

Lagos government needs to think. We need ferries that carry cars directly from Island to Ikorodu, that would have allowed a lot of people to drive against traffic in a day like yesterday (on the other side of the road). Either that or let then do the fourth mainland bridge on time (this would have also allowed a lot of people to drive against traffic coming from Ikorodu). In Lagos one is forced to take longer routes and think out of the box almost everyday, our politicians should be doin the same too. https://youtube.com/shorts/T8pLeoAevhE?si=KFr2RSeleYG67XA7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0vnfr8Un00?si=O_oQcX71cVKJ9LUB

My beef with such situations is that they are avoidable ... some delay yes... but not to this extent. A serious accident .. yes .. I can understand..... but even so it shouldn't take hours upon hours to clear and reopen the road. this is about bridge maintenance... scheduled maintenance . Didn't the authorities know that this would cause a bottle neck and choke traffic for miles? Why weren't there warnings of the blockage and alternative routes cleared and announced to divert traffic from farther away? Lack of foresight .... short sighted people everywhere in management positions. |

Infact the traffic was something else yesterday. I was so surprised to see motorists lined up in our street this morning, they passed the night on the streets because they were looking for an easier routes. Some of those commercial buses got spoiled too because of the bad road. Omo those guys really passed through hell yesterday, it wasn't funny atall . |
