I don't think the Chinese would voluntarily the gold they recently struck with this retail business sha. Nigerian government's leaning towards China at the Macro level sef suggests that the Chinese wholesalers would voluntarily let go.

While reacting to the Tradefair protest , the Police Area commander actually referred to the traders who protested as " Few miscreants and disgruntled fellows".....That one alone don show say the Traders do not enjoy the sympathy of government.

My advise is for those who can to diversify and move into business line wey the Chinese never put eye to drag retailing with them.
Never put eye?

Those guys don full everywhere. Infact, the way they are buying up everywhere is worrisome

I was somewhere in Edo and the locals were telling me that the forest reserves they have are being sold to the Chinese...

The worst part? They aren't doing anything yet. Just buy and keep

Ogun state don almost finish as Chinese don buy land everywhere.

The next 20 to 30 years would be interesting in Africa

The market sellers/Union should go into partnership with the Chinese.

Buy up all their stock, and then retail.

If na by protest, ko le work
The Chinese have little incentive to do this. It'd pay them to sell at close to the traders' price and use whatever difference they'd have sold to traders to market direct to end users.

If the government doesn't enact a protectionist policy, the traders would lose, it's inevitable.

Very.

China's dominance is inevitable, best bet is to find ways to align with whatever opportunities come up.

The issue is that the traders by themselves have created a chain when they add zero value to the customer.

It is not as if they give aftersales support or warranty or guarantee. Add that to the toxicity most of them show

I was looking for a special switch and I went to chint store in ogba. I opened everything I could put my hands on. I was not challenged. A day before I had been in alaba and when I opened the packet of one of the items to inspect the seller immediately became rude and hostile. You can't open it. I will pay for the one I opened. I say you can't open it

Dodgy hustlers overpricing suspect items.

The onus is to accept that the trading hustle is dead and move on to something that actually creates value. The reason they are easily replaced is they are not providing any value at all for the customer.
Hostile, aggressive, greedy, rude and very entitled sellers

What are they protecting? trading is not an industry. all these years that there has been no competition, have these traders shown any economy or industry boosting ?

China is moving aggressively in trade all over the whole world even against western nation that have leverage

Africa na small fry. We cannot produce, we have needs that looks like China can fulfill, we cannot afford to buy competing products from other western nation that might be more ethical

Africa na easy piece for China

The Ghanian and South African governments have and continue to do these things, with the boogey man being Nigeria.

It's something the government can do if they want to.

Did Peter Obi leave any debt? Question

Here is what President GEJ has to say...

Nigeria has a Debt Management Office which publishes States Foreign and Domestic debts monthly

In the era of AI, it's simply lazy to rely on the words of his zoologist friend than ask AI to tell you what the accountants at the DMO reported as Anambra debt in any specific month

I remember the Ghanaian government making laws that there are some particular trade/business foreigners cannot engage in without a Ghanaian being involved as part of management/ownership of the business.

I doubt we have anybody in Nigerian government that will think along this line. Even if somebody wants to sponsor a bill along that line, I can assure you that with few millions in Ghana-must-go bags shared by foreigners, that bill will die natural death

What will be the fate of displaced traders by the Chinese? I hope in the process of solving a problem we don't end up with much bigger problem down the road.
People saying that the traders should pivot into production in an environment that is prohibitively expensive to be a producer are not being realistic. Where is the conducive environment to compete globally and still be profitable with our double-digits lending rates, epileptic power supply, broken supply chains, and huge infrastructure gap and unskilled population?
I wish us well if we end up pushing more people out of their businesses and expect to live in peace.

She's wife to a business man who was a dollar multimillionaire before he ever won any election.

That money won't simply vanish into thin air because he became a politician some 19 years ago.

I'm surprised he's asking those sort of questions. What was Buhari's net worth before his latest presidential stint? How do you go from that relative modesty to what became of his family during his presidency?

The handbag has triggered renewed discussions about the former Anambra State governor’s public image of prudence, particularly given his reputation for advocating prudent management of public resources.

Obi, however, said he does not concern himself with how his wife spends her personal money, provided her lifestyle does not interfere with his handling of public funds.

He also recalled that his wife was more sophisticated in her fashion choices before he became governor of Anambra State.

“My wife has her own business and her own money, so what is my business if she buys expensive items with her money?
Maybe you can tell us what her business is.

Her Wikipedia article is not saying.

You be mm?

Tell me that PO can't afford that bag for his wife.

I never said Tinubu can't afford that for his wife. He can because he was a drug lord.

As an end customer will you rather pay high for the Nigerian traders goods or Chinese traders goods? Probably same quality

Do you think govt should chase out the cheaper seller

Peter Obi lives simply on Peter Obi's money.

Peter Obi's wife lives lavishly on Peter Obi's money.
