My 2013 Camry is consuming excessive fuel, it's been more than a year since i bought it, and i have been suffering heavily ever since then, i spend nothing less than 100k a week on fuel alone, i don't drive long distance or drive much or have heavy foot.


The car is consuming fuel excessively, this car drink fuel like water, the car fuel consumption is something else and I'm so tired, it's a 2013 camry.


Firstly, i initially thought it was the wheel and tyres because the car came with 20 inch tyres and wheels, because i read here on nairaland that bigger tyres/wheels affect fuel consumption, so i bought and changed all 4 wheels and tyres, the car is a fuel guzzler, i have bought new catalyst for 305k, changed oxygen sensor, check for leaks, all 4 coils and all 4 spark plugs, yet the fuel consumption still remain the same. The car normally takes me 41km for 20 liters of fuel.

So i decide to scan the car today for codes and these are the codes below that I got from the scanner.

Please help me, it's draining me so much, I'm so tired, please help me.

That last pic, 6mg. Just park that car first. Don't be in a hurry to inspect it with professional. Its eating all your money, my gee dodge challenger v6 dey use 29mpg for express, he uses 12 liters to and fro from Agbor and asaba. My vboot padded uses about same without AC

It's been 4.1mpg within the past 11 months and counting, it showed 6.4mpg two day's ago in which i was surprised and i snapped it, and now it's presently displaying 4.4mpg.

wow. If no be the injection system or from plug, then na the air filter flow that is obstructed or blocked or sensor. Every other thing being equal, like tyre inflated properly

I have changed all 4 injectors, all 4 spark plugs, i bought original (4)spark plugs from a nairalander here for 62k, I have changed the air filter, yet still the same thing.

u for no hurry for the plugs. U for know by yourself if them.be the fault, cos the acceleration no go smooth. Na force the engine go take fire, and for hilly road its most noticeable. Another thing them go need see na the timing chain. If e lose , come free, then the engine go drink fuel exactly like we dey use straw suck water from cup. There is one thing causing it. That Camry and that 2005 corolla na the same for fuel consumption. Check timing chain. Just meet professional. E go show u. Na one small thing there dey cause thus thing

Never buy a Nigerian used over priced car .u for buy accord same year dey enjoy yourself. See just sell it off. 6mpg is terrible and mekos jus dey use u chop. Dey are doing the job making u feel like they are working but they are attacking the symptoms .making u repeat the cycle over and over again. Might be the engine already abused.juat sell it off. 6mpg na death. It won't take u up to 25km on 3 litres so cover 40km multiplied a dau or 2 it's crazy. I fit help but u spent a lot. Fuc k. If u wan buy camry of dis model. Always buy direct toks. Direct toks. In a day u go dey buy fuel of almost 20 to 30k and e go still finish. God wan punish u. U come dey use AC. Abort mission. Respray. Package and sell off. Don't contact any one.evedybody wan chop

I had to sell all my V6 cars, now I just want to get a 2010 Honda civic or 2012 Honda accord. I no get strength for all these fuel guzzlers.

I also see from your previous thread that alot of people advised you from buying this car, but it seems you are stubborn. You don't take advice.

You can find way around some things that are draining you emotionally and financially by adopting other methods that will serve as bailouts.

For example,by doing a partexchange of the car for a better one.

Sell it buy a car with lower fuel consumption. I was forced to sell my c- class Mercedes,mehn I loved that car more than anything. But it was six plugs and the thing gulped fuel like beer.

You can also monitor the smoke the car is emitting, if it's light black then check your Air flow and the exhaust sensor.

So what's the solution? I'm asking on behalf of the person she's going to respray and sell it to, who will come here and ask.

You have to fix those codes on your car first, especially the camshaft timing code. Then return your thermostat back to your car.

6.4 miles per gallon?

For those whom don't know, a gallon is approximately 4 litres, meaning the car covers 6.4 miles (less than 11km) with 4 litres.

Meaning it burns 40 litres on a 110km trip.

There's fire on da mountain!

Go and change your fuel pump. It's not returning fuel

System too lean means there is too much air in your car’s air fuel mixture so the computer floods the engine with extra fuel to balance it out. So check, Your PCM system is getting excess air. And find a technician than can livestream with a scanner for you.

The catalyst must have been removed.


Is it a v6 or 4 cylinder aka 4plug engine?

First start by replacing the thermostat and running the fan back to the default setup

Bro, your car is a lemon car.
The previous owner knows this and packaged it for you.
The engine is of that car is bad. It's either the engine was replaced or it has been ringed.
Whichever way, you've got two options.
1. Sell the sucker
2. Get a tokumbo engine.

Check camshaft sensor ,timing , camshaft, MAF sensor.

I have handled and resolved something like this before. You need a good technician .

Its very possible its not a mechanical problem and purely electrical.

You need to start your car and watch live data, and look for abnormalities in all the sensors, and do that at various RPMs, and also record data while driving. Please be safe and don't be distracted while driving, use a scanner that can hook up to your phone and do a screen record. Some apps/scan tools have a feature to record and replay data.

Sometimes vehicle diagnosis is an art mixed with deep knowledge enough to connect multiple dots to resolve problems.

Have you done a smoke test on it for vacuum leaks ?

Has anybody checked your ECU connectors ?
