Cancellation of Marriage.

I, Mr Samuel Isaac Ogbonnaya wishes to use this medium to inform the general public that the wedding between myself, Mr Samuel Isaac Ogbonnaya and Miss Gift Oriaku slated to hold tomorrow, Saturday the 19th Day of September 2026 has been called off due to irreconcilable developments that just arose.

I sincerely regret and apologize to everyone for any inconveniences this may have caused and I appeal that the public should pls bear with me even as I implore your continued prayers and support.

Promise Umezurike Gives Reason For The Cancelled Wedding

For clarity Purpose before you guys start judging us to be the cause of cancelling the wedding
the elder brother to the bride called the groom 3days to the wedding and demanded that the wedding be postponed to December, a wedding that was just 3 days away, that the money they want to use and buy things they will use to duo la their sister ulo he couldn't afford it and that he requested for their uncle's help but that the uncle said he went to USA for vacation and so requested that the wedding be postponed because he wanted to be physically present at the wedding.

My brother pleaded and told them that it would not be possible to postpone the wedding as it was already too late to do that and given the fact that everything and all the vendors has been paid, but they insisted and the girl supported her family, after every plea fell on deaf ears, my brother said he wasn't going ahead with both the wedding and the marriage anymore.

Our question.....

what's has idu ulo gat to do with already planned wedding.
If the Uncle really loves the family can he still support bride in the idu ulo. even in his absence. Must he be present before he support .his lovely family
Thirdly don't the parents have to say in their daughters marital issues
Fourthly why the bride support her family ordeal 100 percent.kmowing fully well that she doesn't belong there again.immediately the bride price had been paid.

Another one what concern wedding with marriage...if the traditional bride price had been paid you are married ., you are married so why didn't the Uncle do the idu ulo before travelling since the traditional rites had been done and the idu ulo is still under traditional way.

Then the groom my brother I know you spent money a lot of cash..but cant something be done to resolve this ...since you are married already ..because this is divorce not cancellation..please I want that marriage to hold....that girl might be under a spell, or something else, she might not know what is going on.

It's for the best. marrying to that kind of family will give you serious headache in the future. you have to question the bride’s IQ for siding with her family despite the wedding already being paid for.

Any woman who listens more to her family and picks their side consistently is a huge red flag. Leave her for them. If she open leg for you, lash her to your fill and bounce. Don't make the mistake of putting that woman under your room as a wife. You will regret it.
If a woman truly loves you, she will stand by you and for you against anyone.

After lashing her kponmo to your fill, you can send her family an evaluation report of the used goods to let them know she didn't meet your standards.

From the narration in the OP, they are already married, traditionally. The church wedding was just a formality. However, I see this "cancellation" as the handiwork of folly over wisdom. The bride's family should have been more reasonable, considering that whatever ceremony left to be conducted could have been done much later, if they so desire.

Meanwhile, there's no law in Igbo land that says that idu ulo must be done on the wedding day. The idu ulo can be done in December while the couple do their wedding now.

Obviously, the bride's family don't care about the happiness of their daughter. They are only interested in exerting power and dominance. That man dodged a bullet, except there are other things they are not telling us.

Church wedding was only cancelled, if they don't want to marry again they can divorce peacefully traditionally.

One of my Aunt had same experience, She did her Traditional marriage and Court wedding, few days to the White wedding everything ended and was cancelled. Mee they were already married before the white wedding.

I believe couples can even start having sex after their traditional marriage. But some churches will not wed couples if they find out the couples did before the white wedding.

It is well... Just wondering why all these are not considered before making the plans.

I remember when I cancelled my first supposed wedding, the whole world wanted to kill me with "why would you do such a thing" and "you can't go back at this stage". But whenever I reflect on it, I always thank God for giving the courage to make such bold decision even at tender age. And my parents especially my Dad who understood and stood by me unshakingly.

The reason is not far-fetched. After Introduction, she became extravagant and wanted me to do pass myself for the wedding ceremony. She wanted 120k imported wedding gown when local will cost me 36k and I refused. She left angrily and for 3 days refused to pick my calls and reply my sms or 2go chat. That was the peak for me. By the time she came back after 2 weeks, I have moved on. Our wedding was just 39 days away.


By the time I later got married to my wife(another person), money was greatly saved, as my wife family (possibly learnt from history) asked us to deliver our bride list materials to the family head and get their blessing. From there, 2 witnesses, we headed to the Registry and got married. 14 years we are still standing strong.
