I live in a small compound in Ikono. We are 4 tenants sharing one small yard.

Last week, light did not come for 4 days. You know how PHCN does in Ikono.

My neighbour at the back flat has a big Tiger generator. He put it on since Monday morning and did not off it till Wednesday night. Even when he was sleeping, the generator was shouting GBIM GBIM in my ear.

I could not sleep, I could not read, my baby could not sleep. I knocked on his door on Tuesday to beg him to off it at night. He said "If you no fit bear am, you go buy your own."

I was very angry.

On Wednesday evening, around 9pm, I was outside pressing my phone when his generator suddenly went off. Everywhere became silent. I looked, his wire had cut from the generator.

He came outside with torch and was looking for what happened. He did not see me.

I quickly carried my chair and went inside. I did not tell him what happened.

He stayed without light for 2 days before he could fix the wire.

I know what I did was bad, but I finally slept well for 2 nights.

Since then he has been offing his generator by 10pm every night. Now we have peace in the compound.

Please, if you have a generator in a small compound, remember your neighbours. Not everybody has the money to buy their own.

These generator sets ain't noisy like gens of 90s and early 2000s. Your head go wan burst . Generator in the next compound will terrorise you.

What you did was bad, is it a crime for a neighbour to on gen althrough the night? What if he can't sleep inside heat?

You are right my sister, heat too much for Ikono here. But this one different. The man travelled for 3 days and left gen on for compound with fuel inside. We dey fear fire. If e burn house, who go pay? That is why I para. No be say I no want make he enjoy light.

@TheMensch No sir I no cut wire o. I go meet compound chairman. Chairman off the gen and remove fuel keep for safe place. I dey blame myself because I for talk to am before, not report to chairman straight.

@Nnamdipapa You are very smart. Na true. Gen no run 3 days non-stop. What happened be say the man put am on timer? E on and off by itself. But e dey on every night disturb us. I say 3 days make una understand how long e don happen. Sorry for confusion. But story na true for Ikono.

Then you did nothing wrong. You only sought for an alternative solution to o your problem and got it. Don't trouble yourself. Leave him let him handle his problems himself

I dislike this nonchalant and wicked attitude of some neighbours.They don't consider others in their excesses.
