Nigeria’s FX Supply Rises 20.5% To $8.94 Billion In 2025 by Dharmocherish(op): 1:38pm On Sep 22
Nigeria’s foreign exchange supply increased by 20.5 per cent to $8.94 billion in 2025, up from $7.43 billion recorded in 2024, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The figures were contained in the apex bank’s 2025 Statistical Bulletin and represent an increase of about $1.51 billion in annual foreign exchange supply.

Monthly figures showed that supply remained relatively low at the beginning of 2025 before rising significantly in March and April.

FX supply stood at $590.64 million in January and $607.63 million in February. It then climbed to $1.04 billion in March before reaching its highest monthly level of $1.65 billion in April.

However, supply declined in the following months, falling to $838.93 million in May and $676.31 million in June. It recovered slightly to $759.02 million in July before dropping to $677.84 million in August and $399.80 million in September.

October recorded the lowest monthly figure for the year at $150.10 million. Supply later recovered to $638.38 million in November and $910.73 million in December.

The CBN also reported that total foreign exchange inflows into Nigeria rose from $96.53 billion in 2024 to $109.86 billion in 2025, representing a 13.81 per cent increase.

However, foreign exchange outflows also increased during the period, rising by 27.83 per cent from $38.37 billion to $49.05 billion.

As a result, Nigeria recorded a net foreign exchange inflow of $60.81 billion in 2025, compared with $58.16 billion in 2024.

The CBN data, however, do not provide a detailed breakdown of the sources of the $8.94 billion supplied during the year.

The increase in FX supply comes amid continued efforts to improve liquidity and stability in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market, although the market remained volatile in 2026.

That 20.5% increase is good news, but ₦8.94bn for a $400bn economy is still tiny.
Not really bad if you ask me.

CBN can celebrate a 20.5% increase in FX supply on paper, but these billions mean nothing to ordinary Nigerians struggling to eat or businesses forcing to lock their gates. You can’t feed a family with a statistical bulletin.
A net inflow of $60.81 billion means nothing when food, fuel, and transport costs are skyrocketing. Worse, FX supply choked from $1.65 billion in April to just $150.10 million in October, making it impossible for local SMEs to plan or survive.
With outflows jumping 27.83%, wealth and multinationals are fleeing. Local factories are shutting down daily due to high interest rates and bad economic ideas. Stop bragging about boardroom stats while the common citizen drowns. undecided

If the FX supply has increased by 20%, may I ask why the $ to Naira exchange rate remains woefully weak. Black market rates are still almost $1 / 1390 naira?

Voodoo economics is what this is called.

Did those fx flows grow out of thin air, isn't it nigerians that are generating and driving the market.........there can't be much significant impact on the pocket of your common man if your state gov doesn’t provide good quality and affordable healthcare and education, tinubu already did his with NELFUND and free vocational education and allowances to students.......cancer and kidney centers in the 6 zones of the country to make its treatment more affordable.

You can't feel the impact if your givs don't invest heavily in agric to guarantee food security and making food cheaper......mind u, the govs own the land.

Cheap transportation by enabling CNG and EV stations accessibility in their states, what stops a state from getting 2 or 3 CNG stations per LGA,its even something LGAs can do......this can help ameliorate the high cost of transportation.

Those red buses you see in london are owned by the london city transport and not the uk govt, same applies to many other cities even Emirates is owned by dubai and not the UAE.

Sadly this is Nigeria. Many really have been conditioned to think the Presidency/Abuja is the alpha and omega and the state/local government contributes nothing.
The thing is it does not eventually matter who is in the presidency, if the state and local government continues to underperform, the effort at the center will not be felt.

Why do bank tell you they dont have cash forex when you go to withdraw?

True story. I visited gt bank in abuja the other day. They told me they only had 20$ bills to give me when i went to withdraw. A senator came to withdraw, sat in his car and the bank staff took $50000 in $100 bills to him in his car.

Anyway other banks will tell you they dont have cash available. At least gtbank will give you cash, but in lower denomination

You can't compare Nigeria to London or Dubai those places have stable national economies. Our 30%+ inflation was triggered by aggressive federal shock therapy, not lazy governors. NELFUND means nothing when currency devaluation has crushed local businesses and stripped away mass purchasing power.

Sadly this is unreasonable, balablu bulaba town hall conditioning.

The president alone has 53% of FAAC allocations.

36 states share 27% among themselves. This means that a governor has only 1/36 fraction of 27%

774 LGAs share 20% among themselves. That means an LGA chairman gets 1/774 fraction of 20%.

Are you going to rewrite your comment huh
