The sentence that was given for the crime she committed was death. Reflection has nothing to do with it. 😒😒
If that's the case, it's still wrong. laws should protect people, not punish them. She was young na. she should have been rehabilitated

IMPARTIAL:
➜She should still pay for the crime... Maybe life imprisonment, not a death sentence.
So, if someone murders your child or mother, the law should be bent to allow the person to live freely on taxpayer money for life, too? 😒😒

In my opinion, she has already being prison for so long enough. Thus, a life sentence is more decent than killing. She was 18 years old acting on perhaps impulses. 30 years behind bars already in regret.
So she should be allowed to live, is that what you are trying to say?

How exactly does the law protect people from violators without needing to absolutely punish the same violators? Let us inside your head for a bit so we understand the way you reason, abeg! 😒

The Justice system is not built to bring back person's from death. It is instead designed to ensure each person is met with equal and fair repercussions/punishment for crimes committed. Simple! 😒😒
I'm saying that punishment-based justice system should be abolished infavour of restorative justice which focus on healing.

Focuses on healing what? A girl was brutally tortured and killed; her killer bragged about the killing while showing off a piece of the dead girl's skull. What is there to heal? Who is healing whom exactly in this restorative system of yours? How does this restorative system heal the victim and the actions perpetrated against the victim for which the law had to step in? 😒😒

Again, the Justice system is a system that focuses solely on ensuring equal and fair repercussions/punishments for crimes committed; it is not a miracle working system or a psychiatric system. 😒😒

isn't it odd that she is the first? does that mean she has commited the worst crime in the state?

1. The first what? What do you mean she is the first? 😒

2. The worst crime? Crime really isn't about the worst or not the worst. That delusion that it is only sits inside the heads of those who refuse to see things as they simply are. It is about action and consequences. The moment your commit a crime that meets the stated punishment, you get exactly that. It happens that the legal consequence for the brutal massacre she carried out is death, and she is merely having to face the stipulated consequence as stated in the Law of the state. 😒😒

You are misunderstanding me. I'm talking about comforting the victim's family, the community, and addressing the root causes of the issues. so that the same thing will not repeat it self again.

if you are just focused on punishment and retribution. how will that make the society better?

Oga answer the question first. If naa your sister be the victim, will you tell them to free her?

PythagonArts:
Killing her will not bring the sister back. I don't know your religion but revenge is not something you should celebrate.

The woman in the photo is Christa Gail Pike. She is currently the only woman on Tennessee's death row and, having been sentenced at just 20 years old, is often noted as the youngest woman ever sentenced to death in the U.S.

The crime occurred in January 1995 when Pike was an 18-year-old attending a Job Corps program in Knoxville, Tennessee .

Driven by jealousy involving her boyfriend, Pike and two accomplices (her boyfriend and another student) lured 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer into the woods. For over about 30 minutes, they tortured and beat Slemmer, carving a pentagram into her chest. Pike delivered the fatal blow by striking her skull with a chunk of asphalt .

Prosecutors described it as an act of "extraordinarily brutal" cruelty.

After nearly 30 years of appeals, Pike's execution is currently scheduled for September 30, 2026 . If carried out, she would be the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years .

Though her lawyers are currently fighting the sentence through a clemency petition and a religious-liberty lawsuit regarding the lethal injection process.

Do you think she should be executed?

1. The legal system has nothing to do with the victim's family. That job is solely for the medical/psychiatric/religious systems to handle as the family chooses. These are not victims and are hence outside the purview of the justice system. 😒😒

2. The root cause is not unknown here. A human chose to violate another human being's right to life and liberty-- a victim was made --, leading to the justice system stepping in to ensure the violator is justly penalized for the crime committed. Note that the justice system activates only when a victim is created. 😒

3. As long as you have living, breathing humans, the chances of the same repeating itself remain normal. Justice does not serve as a deterrent for crime. Criminals will always be criminal-ing. Rather, the justice system serves the purpose of ensuring those who violate the laws are met with equal and just consequences for their actions. Again, this is simple! 😒

4. To make society better, you have laws. That is what laws are. They are there to ensure that those who violate society are met with consequences. And we have law enforcement out and about to enforce those laws. Whereas we have the Justice system to ensure violators are punished according to the law. 😒😒

Community members, businesses, and groups can, while operating within the confines of the law, engage in actions that help beautify and enhance the experiences that people are able to have within society all within the confines of the law. They cannot go beyond or above the law in doing so. 😒

Whatever you wouldn’t want done to you, don’t do it to others. Treat people the way you would want to be treated.

If you can forgive her, just say Yes.... simple, and if you can't just say No.

This is a Beast , A demon ….in human form..
Carved a pentagram in another young girls heart,
Withstood her piercing cries,
Withstood her gushing blood

No this lady should die, the only good is forgiveness of her soul so that she may have peace with her maker.

Setting her free is dangerous she is already bitter at life. She is full of bitterness and regret she has no joy and thus a danger to anyone around her

Forgiveness is a mental delusion that individuals have the freedom to engage in. It is an emotional decision that should be left between humans. However, when it comes to matters that go beyond the individual... the societal contract that is the law... such ideas as forgiveness are nothing but a joke or ridicule of the people. That contract/glue that holds society together is the law, and when applied and effectively implemented, the Law has no place for such delusions as forgiveness. 😒😒

Don't mind all these "advocates". The most important impact is "DETERRENCE". Death penalty serves as the most vital societal signal to deter others from ever contemplating murder. Any society that abolishes the death penalty really has no true value for human life in the real sense of it.

It is actually society that needs to heal from the scourge of ever experiencing such monsters in human flesh.

Actually, the justice system does not even serve as a deterrent at all. If 100 people want to emulate a serial killer, the law will not stop them from going ahead and doing just that. It only serves to hopefully guarantee(provided we have good judges in place) that they will meet the end stipulated in the law. 😒😒

The only people who are deterred are those with a "good" head on their necks. For all others, the justice system is to ensure they are adequately punished and removed from the pool of "free" society to maintain societal equilibrium. 😒😒

Exactly! And part of the healing is to ensure that the belts of the Law and the Justice system -- the judges and law enforcement agents -- remain tightened and in place for the next time another monster is caught. 😒😒

Justice does not serve as a deterrent for crime. This right here is what I'm against. What is the point of Justice if it is not a deterrent to crime?
If legal justice had zero deterrent effect, we would see no difference in crime rates when laws are strictly enforced versus when there is no law.

Justice is not a retributive punishment machine. the point is to maintain public order and prevent future harm and
you can't just dismiss family members as "outside the purview of the justice system" When you say this it makes me question your educational background.
And there are different types of deterrence pls. Read more on laws and enforcement systems before arguing with me because you talking off point right now.

See let me tell you something. what you want for yourself an individual may not be good for everyone. For this reason, we must not look at this matter in a narrow way. Think of what is best for the society.

I believe you are a Christian. So ask yourself what Christ would have you do in this case if you were the mother. Also it is important to know if you are a devoted Christian or just a Christian in the ordinary sense of the word without devotion .
Answer the question and stop using questions as diversions. It’s easier to form opinions and suggestions for pains you have never experienced.

You can extend this to many other issues. do you know why gangs members are killing each other everyday in chicago today? It's because they refuse to forgive.. forgiveness breaks cycles of retaliation and stops people from hurting each other again.
