Who do we Nigerians like been delusional?
A tenant paying rent to do business has advantage over a landlord who is rent free doing the same business?
I won't argue with you but I will tell you one thing. Ignorance is bliss.
Also know that I can be your tenant and earn alot more than you since you want to use the landlord /tenant scenario to compare a wholly different scenario.

Lebara is operating as a virtual network in Nigeria relaying on Airtel Nigeria. Lebara is a tenant paying rent to Airtel increasing its cost of operations.

It's not just about the data cost.
We are currently paying hugely for limited data and poor signals.

They need to offer cheaper data and call rates if they are to knock MTN and others off their perch. If not, they should prepare to pack their bags like Etisalat, Zain, V mobile, econet and others before them.
Econet, V mobile and Zain are one and the same with Airtel. Just a change of name.

I reserved my number when they started PROMO and have gone to claim same. Unfortunately, I have activated the sim but no network on my device since Tuesday.

Different companies that bought them at different times and fled the fluctuating economy of Nigeria. It was not just name changes.
The original company was econet.

. You are speaking trash , consider cheaper services before quality? It seems you have never been frustrated with the rubbish network we currently have despite paying for it .........
looks like I am dealing with someone who isn't so bright after all.....was I talking about myself of the overall situation in this country or is comprehension a problem to you?. undecided .

When they start porting let me know so I can leave Glo for good.. A very useless entity that operates like they are living elsewhere

You expect me to buy date that almost half works in the night like I can't buy night data from mtn for hundreds naira if I need to be awake to use data

Please just inform us when they start allowing porting
My MTB and Airtel are okay but my glo I have given to my kids bit will return to it when I port

Saw a few people talking about Lebara launching in Nigeria and finally picked up a line last week, mostly out of curiosity since I hadn't heard much about them outside the ad I saw.

A few things stood out so far:

The onboarding was actually done entirely on my phone, no store visit, no waiting around for an agent to sort out registration. Scanned my ID, took a selfie, done. Took maybe 10 minutes total.

They also have this AI assistant thing on their site called Sabi where you can check your balance or ask questions without having to call anyone. Not sure how useful that will be long term but it was a nice touch for someone who doesn't like calling customer care for small things.

Data rates seem reasonable so far, haven't done a deep comparison against MTN or Airtel yet, would be curious what other people are seeing since data pricing changes so often here.

One thing I noticed, you can't port your existing number over yet, that feature isn't live. So if you're switching, you're starting with a new number for now, worth knowing before you commit if you need to keep your old number.

Anyone else on Lebara yet? Curious how network coverage has been for people outside Lagos, that's the main thing I'm still trying to figure out before deciding if I fully switch over.

Something obvious doesn't need spelling it out....let them put their price high than the ones here and let's see how it goes....it's not my fault that you don't understand basic economics.

That's a UK SIM, they gave you incase your visa got approved so you could use it in the UK. And 98 pounds must be a typo, maybe you meant 0.98 pounds.

I enrolled o. It has been awesome so far. Seamless online onboarding, the first in Nigeria’s mobile telecom industry

Verdict: they need to do better than the seamless onboarding and provide cheaper calls and data plans. Those are our major pain points . The rest is window dressing
They are using existing infrastructure of other telecom coys like MTN. They'll have to pay for the infrastructure and also take their cut. With the hired infrastructure, it's difficult for them to be as affordable as existing telecom coys talk less of being cheaper

It seems you are not well educated !!! Basic economics also teaches us that price is not the only determinant of demand as people are willing to pay more when they believe they are getting better quality, reliability, and value for money. If cheaper was always better, Samsung and iPhone wouldn’t still be competing successfully despite cheaper alternatives like Tecno, infinix. Let Labara provide quality service and customers decide whether the value is worth it.

That is where you are getting it wrong. Airtel does all the hardwork. They pay Airtel a fixed amount to use their equipment thereby reducing Their own overhead. It is a model they use in over 10 countries. If it was not profitable to them they won't expand into other countries including Nigeria.

Lebara is an MNVO. Lebara doesn't have its own infrastructure. They simply utilize existing infrastructures of other service providers. Services from an MNVO are typically cheaper than that of the owner of the actual infrastructure, that's how it's in most parts of the world. I am not surprised that it's the opposite in Nigeria. After all, nothing works properly in this country.

Don't mind those defending the ridiculous and expensive services of Lebara. All over the world, MNVO services are cheaper than that of the actual owner of the infrastructure, that's how it works. It's simple. The MNVO didn't have to acquire and deploy the infrastructure, which is the most expensive part of the whole process. MNVOs simply pay the owner of the infrastructure in order to use the services of the infrastructure, so why should the services of the MNVO be more expensive than that of the owner of the infrastructure.
Everything works in opposite in this country and useless regulator does nothing about it

They currently buy network capacity from Airtel.

Correct. MVNO’s rent the infrastructure and buy data in bulk. So their overhead costs are lower. That’s why they are usually cheaper.

I understand your point about purchasing power, but that does not mean price is the only determinant of demand. People pay more when they believe the quality and value justify it. Affordable is good, but quality and value matter too, that is basic economics as well......I believe you have learnt something from this. I just want to educate you

Mr man calm down , Being an MVNO doesn't automatically mean the service must be cheaper. I know MVNO doesn't own the underlying network, but it still has wholesale access costs, operating expenses, taxes, customer service costs and its own pricing strategy. The real comparison should be the quality and value of the service relative to its price, not simply they do not own the infrastructure, therefore they must be cheaper.” That's an assumption, not an economic rule. I am talking to you from experience

I wasn't disputing that with you...I was just highlighting the Nigerian factor.

If these guys don't give cheaper prices even if it's at least temporarily to capture a huge percentage of the market then they should forget it......MTN and Airtel might not be top notch but they're at least manageable or even okay so I don't see what these new guys will bring in terms of quality that would be enough to dislodge both of them or at least keep them on their toes if not their level or more of quality services plus cheaper services.

Lebara UK uses Vodafone in Uk as their network infrastructure carrier just like they use Aritel in Nigeria.

I have attached a screenshot for the price of unlimited data from both network but it you want to continue in your ignorance. ...it is a free world. Continue.

There's no point arguing with ignorant people. Don't bother trying to prove anything to anyone who is unwilling to listen or learn. I have realized we have ignorant people in unlimited numbers in this country. Once I make my point, I move on. One up there is arguing ignorantly and claiming to be the all-knowing.
