Twelve years on: Tribute to Braimoh, Hedima, and other fallen heroes The month of September 2026 makes it 12 years since two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) pilots took to the skies on a mission from which one would never return and the other would disappear into the uncertainty of war. Group Captain Abdulrasheed Bamidele Braimoh and Wing Commander Chimda Hedima were flying Alpha Jet aircraft (NAF 466) on a combat mission against Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast when their aircraft went down near Kauri in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on 12 September 2014. Hedima was subsequently captured and killed in the most gruesome manner by the terrorists, while Braimoh’s fate has remained unresolved. But this is why I cant stop criticising the Nigerian Army which seems to be the least innovative of all 3 services. Do they even train for Artillery spotting of targets using UAV? Conducted with the support of Airbus technical personnel, the exercise marks an important milestone in strengthening technical collaboration, facilitating knowledge transfer and enhancing NAF personnel’s practical exposure to the support and maintenance of modern rotary-wing platforms. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the development as a positive step towards strengthening the NAF’s technical and operational capacity. He stated, “Beyond acquiring modern platforms, we are committed to developing the knowledge, partnerships and support systems required to maximise their operational value and sustain them throughout their service life.” The H125 helicopters will provide valuable additional capability for ongoing NAF air operations, including surveillance, tactical mobility and other operational support missions. The NAF appreciates the continued support and strategic direction of the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose administration’s commitment to strengthening national security capabilities continues to support the Service’s fleet modernisation and operational effectiveness. #NigerianAirForce #NAF #Airbus #AirbusHelicopters #H125 #AirPower #FleetModernisation #TechnologyTransfer #OperationalReadiness #StrategicPartnerships @Airbus Airbus Helicopters

rugged7:I understand your pain 😢 bro, judging by the ever changing dynamics of counter-insurgency operations cut across the world, the @NA is lacking seriously behind. But they've shown us some artillery strike of recent, hitting BH attack forcing them to withdraw. Looking at how artillery strike with the help of UAV spotting & correcting strikes in the ongoing war with Russia/Ukraine war and how it can quickly shape the dynamics. We can do better than what we currently practising now and what the Army-HQ as to change alot regarding military doctrine to meet current challenges. If we invest properly in modern artillery & UAV, this will further help our F.O.B and reduce pressure and relying always on Air strike support. |

OPHK TROOPS RECORD MAJOR INDEPENDENCE DAY OPERATIONAL SUCCESSES IN SECTOR 4…Neutralise Terrorists, Recover Arms In a series of decisive operational encounters executed between 30 September and 1 October 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), recorded significant tactical breakthroughs across Sector 4 Area of Operations in Adamawa State. The coordinated engagements comprising a lethal ground ambush, a precision air strike, and successful defensive counter-operations culminated in the neutralisation of multiple terrorists, the recovery of an assortment of arms and ammunition, and the frustration of hostile incursions. The operational momentum commenced in the Boima general area of Gombi Local Government Area, where troops conducted a well-coordinated ambush against a terrorist enclave. The swift tactical action resulted in the neutralisation of 16 terrorists. A subsequent exploitation of the engagement site led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines, and a belt of pump-action cartridges, thereby severely degrading the adversary's combat power and denying them freedom of action within the sector. Reinforcing the ground operations, the Air Component of OPHK delivered a precision strike in the early hours of 1 October, 2026. At approximately 4:40 am, an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform detected a concentration about 16 terrorists assembling alongside 15 motorcycles beneath a tree canopy in Sector 4. Following positive identification and target acquisition, a precision air interdiction was executed at 5:30 am, recording a direct hit. Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the successful destruction of the target, while few surviving elements scattered in disarray. Concurrently, troops demonstrated resolute defensive capability when insurgents launched coordinated attacks on troop locations at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha. Responding with overwhelming firepower, the troops repelled the assailants, forcing them to abort the mission and withdraw precipitously. Regrettably, three brave soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice during the fierce battle, while wounded personnel were swiftly evacuated and are currently in stable condition receiving medical treatment. Follow-up exploitation and mop-up operations across the general area are actively ongoing. These successes come amid the ongoing rejigging of Headquarters Theatre Command, aimed at strengthening joint integration, improving operational synergy and ensuring the inclusiveness of relevant stakeholders in the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency campaign. Building on the strong foundation laid by the previous leadership, the renewed approach is already yielding operational dividends through enhanced coordination of land and air components and other supporting elements. The Theatre Command remains committed to sustaining its aggressive posture and leveraging intelligence, technology and joint capabilities to deny terrorists freedom of action across the North East. As Nigerians commemorate the nation’s Independence Anniversary, the troops of OPHK remain resolute in defending the nation’s territorial integrity and creating the conditions for lasting peace, security and socio-economic development across the region. Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, appreciates the continued support and cooperation of the public and urges citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies as operations continue across the Theatre. bidexiii:NAF ACCEPTS 2 NEW H125 HELICOPTERS, ADVANCING ROTARY-WING CAPABILITY The Nigerian Air Force has continued to evolve its rotary-wing capability with the formal acceptance of two newly acquired H125 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters. The milestone was marked on 2 October 2026 at 355 Rotary Wing, Ikeja, Lagos, where the Aircraft Acceptance Documents were formally signed by the Commander, 643 Equipment Supply Depot, Air Commodore E Akintunde, on behalf of the Chief of Logistics, Headquarters NAF, and a senior representative of Airbus Helicopters. The acceptance of the two helicopters, which were reassembled in-house with Airbus technical support, adds further capacity to the NAF fleet and strengthens its ability to provide responsive air support when and where required. The process reflects NAF’s adherence to internationally recognised best practices in aircraft acquisition, reinforcing the professional standards, operational integrity and capability-driven approach required for effective airpower projection. #NigerianAirForce #NAF #H125 #AirbusHelicopters #RotaryWing #AirPower #OperationalReadiness #NationalDefence

NAF GRADUATES PIONEER DSA UAV OPERATORS, STRENGTHENS JOINT INTELLIGENCE CAPABILITY The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded another milestone in joint capacity development with the graduation of the pioneer Defence Space Agency (DSA) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Flying Course 1/2026 at 401 Flying Training School (401 FTS), Kaduna. Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Training, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Yusuf Dari, commended 401 FTS for its sustained contribution to aviation training over five decades, describing the course as a practical demonstration of the Chief of the Air Staff’s Command Philosophy, particularly the focus on “Standardized Training and Mission-Focused Capacity Development.” He urged the School to sustain realistic, relevant and technology-responsive training while charging the graduands to uphold professionalism, safety and discipline. Representing the Chief of Defence Space Administration, the Deputy Chief of Defence Space Administration, Air Vice Marshal John Laoye, highlighted the growing strategic importance of UAVs in modern security operations. He noted that the capability provides timely surveillance and enhanced situational awareness to support commanders’ decision-making, while emphasising the importance of professionally trained personnel in maximising its operational value. He also advocated sustained collaboration between the DSA and NAF in developing the human capacity required to effectively employ emerging technologies in support of national security. The graduation marks a significant step in strengthening NAF–DSA synergy and advancing Nigeria’s indigenous capacity in unmanned aviation. It further demonstrates the NAF’s commitment to standardised training, innovation and mission-focused capability development, while deepening inter-agency cooperation to enhance intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance in support of ongoing counter-insurgency and joint security operations across the country. #NAF #DSA #401FTS #UAV #UnmannedAerialVehicles #JointOperations #ISR #CapacityDevelopment #OperationalReadiness #Innovation

JOINT ARMY, DSS, AMOTEKUN OPERATION KILLS SENIOR ISWAP LEADER IN ONDO An intelligence-led operation by troops of the Nigerian Army, personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) and officers of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, has eliminated a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) leader, Abdussamad Ohida, also known as Anwar, in Owo Forest, Ondo State. According to Zagazola Makama, Security sources said Ohida, who was allegedly planning major terrorist attacks in parts of southern Nigeria, was killed alongside other members of the group during a surprise assault on their forest hideout at the weekend Ohida reportedly served as deputy to ISWAP Central Nigeria leader Abu Ikrimah, also known as Abu Uwais, who was arrested by the DSS in 2023. Following Ikrimah’s arrest, Ohida allegedly assumed responsibility for ISWAP activities across parts of North-Central and southern Nigeria. Sources said intelligence obtained during the interrogation of Abu Uwais revealed plans by Ohida to attack civilians during the forthcoming Yuletide and disrupt the 2027 general elections. The intelligence was reportedly corroborated by United Kingdom intelligence partners. Ohida was also linked to several major attacks, including the December 31, 2025 invasion of Ipele Divisional Police Station in Owo, where eight AK-47 rifles were reportedly stolen before the station was destroyed with explosives. He was further linked to attacks on the Suleja–Zuba military checkpoint in Niger State, Kuje Correctional Centre, Ogaminana Police Station in Kogi State, Okene Area Command and a naval checkpoint in Okene. Security sources described Ohida’s elimination as a major blow to ISWAP’s leadership structure and expansion plans in central and southern Nigeria, coming months after the reported killing of ISIS leader Abu Bilal al-Minuki. INFORMATION ON CRASH OF A MILITARY AIRCRAFT I regret to inform the general public that Air Traffic Controllers have informed me of the disappearance of a military aircraft with tail number NGR 931, enroute Lagos from Benin at 0913 hours earlier today. All efforts to raise the aircraft on radio proved abortive. Subsequently information however confirmed that the military aircraft has crashed close to the Naval Base in Igbokoda, Ondo State. The wreckage has been located and search and rescue operations are ongoing. Preliminary information suggests that there were 25 passengers and 7 crew members on board. Whilst the control and regulation of military aircraft are completely outside the authority of the Ministry of Aviation, and Civil Aviation Authority, I have just spoken to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke and pledged our total cooperation and assistance in the search and rescue efforts ongoing. Further information on this unfortunate incident will be made available subsequently.

Toju200:TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI CRUSH ISWAP ASSAULT IN KUKAWA, NEUTRALISE OVER 25 TERRORISTS Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have crushed a coordinated multi-directional assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State, neutralising over 25 terrorists and recovering arms and ammunition during a fierce counter-offensive. The terrorists, who attacked troops of 101 Special Forces Battalion in large numbers from four different flanks, met stiff resistance as the troops responded decisively with superior firepower, tactical manoeuvre and effective battlefield coordination. Supported by the Air Component, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists, inflicted heavy casualties and forced the surviving elements to flee in disarray. Preliminary assessment indicates that over 25 terrorists were neutralised, with 14 bodies recovered so far. During exploitation of the area, troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including six AK-47 rifles. Further exploitation is ongoing to recover additional weapons, track the fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping. Regrettably, some gallant soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice during the encounter. The Nigerian Army extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen heroes and stands with them at this difficult moment. Their courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty will remain an enduring testament to their service to the nation. May their souls rest in peace. The decisive defeat of the assault underscores the combat readiness, resilience and fighting effectiveness of Nigerian Army troops in the North East Theatre. It also demonstrates the growing effectiveness of air-ground synergy and joint operations in disrupting terrorist activities and denying them freedom of action. The Nigerian Army remains unwavering in its determination to sustain operational pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements. Troops will continue to conduct aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and coordinated offensive actions with sister Services and other security agencies to dismantle terrorist networks, protect communities and safeguard the nation.
