People are wiser now and cannot be Gaslighted, the likes of Blueray, Iamoyindamola, KingTom and other yoruba obidients have seen that they can no longer keep quiet when they see their tribe being denigrated, people will vote Peter Obi as the superior candidate to Tinubu but don't start calling them names and expecting them to keep quiet

The comment is even factually untrue. BlueRayDick who was probably the one pressing the issue most is one of the most active Obidients on this thread.

This started with Elder calling Yorubas liberal, probably in order to defend them against the subtle and not so subtle accusations of tribalism/bigotry only for someone else to insert Igbos into the equation in his response BEFORE BlueRayDick (an Obidient) started putting knee to neck.
I don't expect anyone to get offended with my discussion with CrystalTiger, Spy30, izzou, and partly swiz123 as regards the whole culture thing. To the best of my knowledge our conversations were jovial, friendly and not offensive.

As much as me and spy360 bantered towards the end of the discussion, I refrained from allowing the discussion become contest of insults. The funny thing is, we aren't even discussing an issue that has not been discussed outside of this place before. It's an issue that has led to different people setting up NGOs to fight for the rights of women who have been victim of the custom. It's even an issue that has been argued in courts up to supreme court level.

There's a reason why I didn't probe CrystalTiger further in our discussion on the matter; his own position was very clear to me. Even izzou's position was clear and settled. The matter only dragged long because Spy360 was insisting the Punch newspaper columnist (An Igbo man) was wrong, The Igwe was wrong, the high court judge was wrong and even the supreme court justice was wrong by claiming " According to Igbo customary tradition, a female child can't inherit her father".

All those emotional tirade wey Seankafor dey cap for there, nobody get time for that. I believe we were having logical and matured discussion here, and not some emotion-fueled arguments about whether anybody should deny their sister their common inheritance or not. cool

I understand you!

But I didn't think anything we said yesterday was insulting, in my opinion oh.

We all came from different tribes, and we all know they have their flaws. I personally do not think anybody's tribe is better than mine. And I also don't think my tribe is better than anybody's own.

If I have to avoid or get angry when someone discusses the flaws of my tribe, then I might just relocate to my village.

It's a conversation, howbeit bitter. People will have it, whether you're there or not. E no reach to dey vex.
In a perfect world your way is totally fine but in the world we live in, where everybody has different values and beliefs and in which these beliefs and values have varying importance depending on the person, it is better to leave well alone.

Whenever any online discourse starts veering deep into critiquing religion or ethnicity i try to remind myself to back off. Offline i don't even have to remind myself. You would never find me engaging in such debates.

Where i work we have Israeli Jews, Eastern European Jews, Lebanese Christians, Lebanese Muslims, Iranians, Egyptians, Indians, Americans. I don't think i have ever heard any religious or cultural debate. Your well meaning critique might elicit the wrong reaction.

I get him partly.. You can attack the candidate but when you start expanding that to his ethnic group then I will have a problem

bi/Tinubu is the useless person not Ibo/Yoruba but some people in order to shade the candidate they throw a blanket on the group

E.g I don't know how Yorubas dey think wey dem go vote a Tinubu. Yoruba na him dey drag the country back because of voting Tinubu

There was a lot of this in the buildup to 2023 elections that in some quarters online, that it became fashionable to insult Yorubas, the culture, Yoruba elders, Yoruba rulers flippantly
Egbon, we will be deceiving ourselves if we act like people don't hide behind politics to do this. It annoys me when I see people use their disapproval of a candidate to take shots at his/her tribe, whether they call it cruise or whatever, it is irritating. The culture and traditions of our people is strong for some of us, we take it seriously and personal. Not everyone is proud of every aspect of our respective cultures but to suddenly amplify it because it is election season is what i detest.

I can't sit down here and pretend like Igbos who support Asiwaju don't get a lot of hate from our people or Yorubas who don't support Asiwaju, especially Obidients don't get insulted and that is where the bias is showing behind politics. I am one who despite unpopular opinions, still hold Asiwaju in very high regards, it is why I call him Asiwaju.

With that said, we all have to be smart in separating politics from culture, culture is such a sensitive topic for some of us. To those who are indifferent about it, it's fine but understand it also means a lot to others. Again, by no means am I saying people can't speak about other cultures, but do it in a productive manner that also respects it.

Actually Tinubu Obi and Atiku are fair game, They brought themselves out for scrutiny, what I think should be off limit is the ordinary people who are just supporting or not, The culture and traditions of the people

Why are you hoping it's fake news? It's real and it's the way to go..

Lere Olaiykan, a criminal who should be arrested for having access to INEC server is the person calling a retired Air Force personnel, a bandit..

Edo APC chairman that said he'll fire voters with AK-47 is still walking free but you don't expect people to protect themselves when your Tinubu has said all is fair in politics..
Two wrongs don't make a right. But if it's the way to go according to you, then none of you should cry foul if the federal might overpowers ''pump actions''.

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 7:27pm On Oct 06
Earlier today I saw a post talking about the number of military air crash that has happened in the past 10 to 15 years while civilian airlines have not really suffered any major casualty in that same time space.

The post was pointing to the fact that Nigerian Civil Aviation Agency has been at their A-game seeing to commercial airline operators taking maintenance of the aircraft and general safety measures pretty serious. He posited that may have been reason there's been reduction in air mishaps involving commercial flights in Nigeria.

Military aircrafts are however not within supervision and control of NCAA. This is being speculated as maybe one of the reasons there's been spike in the rate of military aircraft. The post was suggesting corruption, inefficiency and lack of proper independent oversight may be reasons as to why aircrafts belonging to military authorities have been unfortunately involved in crashes of recent.

The whole thing got me thinking, the poster may not be wrong knowing how we are in Nigeria and how corruption has affected all spheres of of our daily lives

Imho it is obvious.

We have two or more air force casualties every year. And there is never any investigation of any kind. For all intents and purposes it is like nepa /phcn/ekedc where you run any wayo without consequence.

Also, it's possible that it was just unfortunate

Saw a video of the same aircraft airlifting Air Force secondary school students in September.

Such a pity

Some of the villagers on camera claimed they heard a loud noise from the aircraft before it eventually crashed into the swamp.

There's a possibility a mechanical fault led to implosion of the aircraft forcing it to crashland. Such mechanical fault may be due to lack of proper maintenance.

These are speculations fuelled by the incessant military air crashes in the last few years.

Helicopter/top and tail rotor design is failed engineering if you ask me..
It almost never matters how careful you are, even if you follow all protocols, use the best technicians and follow factory maintenance requirements.

The chances of malfunction or crash is still atleast 8% which I think is unacceptable.
Check all over the world and militaries of 1st world countries, its the same denominator.

Now add all that to Nigerian factor ; I mean Nigeria where we do things anyhow. If one senior man cuts maintenance budget and the technicians have to make do with whatever is available to keep the aircraft flying, what do we expect will happen?

Airframes are not handled like road vehicles..... they do what is called periodic depot maintenance and most frames were usually cargoed to their host countries for certified maintenance.

We still recored air crashes and frame losses even then.
As at today most of the pdm is now done in house as capacity has grown tremendously.
In this aspect, the usual Nigerianess/factors are absent.
Rotor craft are just notorious, the physics is very difficult.
