The figures therefore show that voters aged 18 to 49 years account for more than 73 per cent of the national register, This is the age group from which Presidents and Prime Ministers normally emerge in European countries. But this age group in Nigeria are constrained to go to vote one grandfather or even great grandfather as their president. Blame Nigeria's skewed and lopsided political structure, relevant amendments to the constitution are not possible. |

ProudBoy:O pari. This is the kind of data that makes it politically-naive for South-Easterners with low minority population and low number of registeted voters to work against the majority Yoruba. Senator OUK admitted this political reality in 2023 that there is no way he can be the president except all the political parties or leading parties present him as a candidate. If APC presents him, PDP will cleverly present a Northerner or a southern Yoruba as their PDP presidential candidate and that will deliver the majority votes from the two majority tribes in Nigeria to that his Northerner/Yoruba opponent. This is the reality in Nigeria's democracy. It is a game of numbers and political alliance between the North and Yoruba if you want to win in a free and fair credible election. The only path for any opposition to defeat an incumbent or an incumbent to remain in office is through Yoruba votes in the South. And all these top 10 states except Bauch state are APC states! This is what we meant by reminding them that there is no polling unit on social media. If you add Osun state to this list and remember that Osun is Accord yet the Accord Party Governor has promised to work for President Tinubu because he can not work against a Yoruba president and Yoruba presidential candidate as a Yoruba Governor , then you fully understand how significant it is to always have the number to negotiate in a democracy. If you like sleep and wake up on the social media or in the studio of Arise Tv and other propaganda media platform, if you don't have the number , not from a majority tribe or fail to form a strong political alliance with the two majority tribes; Hausa in the North and Yoruba in the South, you just dey play ni. 2031 combination will be a pragmatic pairing of a Northerner and Yoruba VP like Fashọla to counter any other pairing. If HE Atiku was not facing an incumbent who is Yoruba, he would have picked a Yoruba like Seyi Makinde over Rotimi Amaechi. It is no brainer. It is Primary 4 Arithmetric.

Giving the outcome of the results of 2023 elections Peter Obi remains the man to beat in Lagos come 2027. And, giving the fact that Tinubu has proven to be terrible and highly unpopular leader, nothing much is expected to swing voters to his favour, except for a massive rigging machinery, in which the opposition party are better prepared this time. For a fact, in 2023, Tinubu was not well known, as his foot soldiers promoted and packaged him as the Builder of Lagos. So, he enjoyed the votes of fence seaters and the undecided. Come 2027, Nigerians are now aware and have confirm that Tinubu is a Terrible Leader that has nothing to offer. From North to South the rthym is the same, Tinubu is not sellable. he should expect lesser votes. His Korofos are finding it very hard on how to package balabluuuu this time. A bad product is a difficult sell. |

50% of the registered voters in south west and 30% of the registered voters in the entire north are from south east... So chill,it will shock Apc.. Creating registration center in every street of Lagos and Kano while in south east one have to travel in order to be registered is very common as how south eastern people were defranchised.. This is the analysis: The voter-register numbers give Tinubu a structural advantage, but they do not by themselves mean Tinubu is likely to win. The decisive issue will be whether the opposition vote remains divided among Atiku, Obi/Kwankwaso and other candidates. 1. What the Guardian figures really tell us The new INEC register has 103,428,715 registered voters. Zone Registered voters Share North-West 25.08m 24.25% South-West 19.61m 18.96% North-Central 16.97m 16.41% South-South 15.82m 15.30% North-East 13.97m 13.51% South-East 11.98m 11.58% Total 103.43m 100% The North-West + South-West alone contain 44.7 million registered voters — more than 43% of the national register. Lagos alone has 7.49m, Kano 6.57m and Kaduna 4.66m. But here’s the critical caveat: Registered voters ≠ actual voters. In 2023, Nigeria had 93.47m registered voters but only about 25.29m accredited voters, representing roughly 27% turnout. Tinubu won with 8.79m votes, Atiku 6.98m, Obi 6.10m and Kwankwaso 1.50m. So the 2027 election could ultimately be decided by perhaps 30–40 million actual voters, not 103 million registered voters. That makes mobilisation and turnout just as important as geographical voter strength. ⸻ 2. My current ranking of the major contenders Based on the political structure as it stands today, October 6, 2026, I would rank their chances approximately: 1. 🥇 Bola Tinubu — APC Current probability: ~45–55% 2. 🥈 Peter Obi — NDC Current probability: ~20–30% 3. 🥉 Atiku Abubakar — ADC Current probability: ~15–25% 4. Seyi Makinde — APM Current probability: ~3–7% Other candidates: currently very low, barring a major political realignment. These aren’t polling percentages. They are my assessment of electoral probability, based on voter geography, party machinery, candidate coalitions, 2023 voting patterns, incumbency and the current fragmentation of the opposition. And there is a very important qualification: If Obi and Atiku were to somehow merge their electoral structures before the election, the entire calculation changes dramatically. ⸻ 3. Tinubu has the strongest starting position Tinubu’s biggest advantage is not simply that the APC has the largest political machinery. It is the combination of: Incumbency + APC structure + South-West + substantial northern support + financial/political mobilisation capacity. The latest INEC register is particularly favourable to him geographically. South-West: 19.61m voters Tinubu’s home region remains potentially enormous. In 2023, he won the South-West strongly and established a substantial electoral base there. The APC is now actively organising around the six geopolitical zones, with Babajide Sanwo-Olu coordinating the South-West effort. But there is a warning for Tinubu: He cannot assume the South-West will automatically deliver the same margins as 2023. Economic hardship, inflation and dissatisfaction with the Federal Government could reduce APC support. And the emergence of Seyi Makinde as an APM presidential candidate introduces an interesting complication. Makinde is particularly relevant in Oyo, and potentially among voters looking for a southern alternative to Tinubu. ⸻ 4. The North-West is the biggest prize This is probably the most important thing in the Guardian article. The North-West has: 25.08 million registered voters. That’s almost one-quarter of Nigeria’s entire voter register. The six states are: * Kano — 6.57m * Kaduna — 4.66m * Katsina — 3.88m * Jigawa — 2.81m * Sokoto — 2.63m * Kebbi — 2.31m This is where Tinubu vs Obi/Kwankwaso vs Atiku becomes extremely interesting. In 2023: * Tinubu won the North-West narrowly over Atiku. * Kwankwaso dominated Kano. * Atiku had substantial support across the northern electorate. * Obi had comparatively limited strength in most of the region. The current NDC ticket of Peter Obi + Rabiu Kwankwaso changes that equation substantially. Kwankwaso gives Obi something he did not have in 2023: A serious northern political vehicle. The current INEC final list confirms Obi/Kwankwaso as the NDC ticket, while Atiku is running with Rotimi Amaechi under ADC. That makes Kano particularly important. ⸻ 5. Obi’s 2027 position is much stronger than his 2023 position in one respect Peter Obi’s 2023 performance was remarkable: 6.10 million votes and third place. He won the entire South-East, most of the South-South and performed strongly in parts of the North-Central and Lagos. But his major weakness was northern penetration. Now look at his running mate: Rabiu Kwankwaso. Kwankwaso received about 1.5 million votes in 2023, overwhelmingly concentrated in Kano and the northern electorate. So theoretically: Obi 2023 support + Kwankwaso 2023 support ≠ simply 7.6 million votes. But if even a significant portion of those constituencies combine, the NDC ticket becomes considerably more competitive. This is probably the single biggest threat to Tinubu. ⸻ 6. But Obi has one major problem: the South-East’s size This is where the Guardian article is extremely revealing. The South-East has only: 11.98 million registered voters — 11.58% of Nigeria. Even if Obi wins: 80% of the South-East vote, that does not give him the presidency. For example, if 50% of the registered voters actually vote, the South-East could produce roughly 6 million actual voters. Even overwhelming dominance there therefore gives Obi a relatively limited national vote contribution. So Obi must expand beyond the South-East. And he knows this. His ideal electoral map would be: South-East + South-South + North-Central + Lagos + Kano rather than simply: South-East + South-South. That is why Kwankwaso is so important. ⸻ 7. Atiku has a different problem Atiku remains extremely competitive because of his northern political network. He came second nationally in 2023 with: 6.98 million votes. He won 12 states, including several northern states. His current running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, gives the ADC ticket a significant South-South political connection. But Atiku’s problem is age, fatigue and vote fragmentation. At 79, he is the oldest presidential candidate on the final list. Tinubu is 74, while Obi is 65. More importantly: Atiku and Obi are competing for some of the same anti-Tinubu voters. That is extremely important. ⸻ 8. The opposition’s biggest enemy may be itself This is probably the most important conclusion from the current political situation. In 2023: Tinubu — 8.79m Atiku — 6.98m Obi — 6.10m Kwankwaso — 1.50m Tinubu won with only about 35% of valid votes. INEC’s official results confirm the four leading candidates’ totals. Now imagine, purely hypothetically, that the opposition had presented one candidate in 2023. Atiku + Obi + Kwankwaso: 6.98 + 6.10 + 1.50 = 14.58 million Obviously you cannot simply add the votes because voters don’t transfer perfectly between candidates. But the arithmetic illustrates the fundamental problem: Tinubu did not need to win an overwhelming majority. He needed his opponents to remain divided. And that structural advantage still exists in 2027. Reuters similarly identified opposition fragmentation as one of Tinubu’s major advantages. ⸻ 9. The new political map is therefore fascinating I’d divide the country into five electoral battles. 🟢 Tinubu strong/competitive South-West * Lagos * Ogun * Osun * Ondo * Ekiti * possibly Oyo 🔵 Obi/Kwankwaso potential strongholds South-East * Anambra * Enugu * Ebonyi * Abia * Imo plus: Kano and potentially parts of: * Plateau * Nasarawa * Benue * Delta * Edo * Rivers 🟡 Atiku/ADC competitive territory Particularly: * Adamawa * Bauchi * Gombe * Kaduna * Katsina * Kebbi * Sokoto * Taraba * Yobe depending heavily on northern political alignments. 🔴 Genuine battleground I would watch: Kano Kaduna Katsina Kogi Benue Nasarawa Plateau Rivers Delta Edo Oyo Ogun Lagos Those states could determine the election. ⸻ 10. Rivers is especially interesting Look at the Guardian numbers: Rivers = 3.74 million registered voters. That’s more than the entire South-East state of Ebonyi, and almost as large as Katsina’s 3.88m. Rivers therefore becomes strategically significant. The 2023 result there went to Tinubu, despite the state’s traditional PDP orientation. But the political environment has changed considerably. A candidate who can build a strong South-South coalition could make Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo and Cross River extremely important. ⸻ 11. The real battle may be turnout This is something I think many analysts will underestimate. Suppose: 103m registered but only: 35m actually vote. Then approximately 68m registered Nigerians don’t determine the outcome directly. Now suppose Candidate A has a very enthusiastic base with 70% turnout while Candidate B has a larger theoretical base but only 30% turnout. Candidate A can win despite having fewer registered supporters. This is particularly relevant to: Obi because the Peter Obi movement has historically demonstrated significant political enthusiasm among younger voters. The new register also tells us something important: 73% of registered voters are aged 18–49. 18–34 = 28.79% 35–49 = 41.83% That’s a combined 70.62%, according to the Guardian’s figures. This is potentially favourable to a candidate who can mobilise younger and middle-aged voters. But again: registration does not guarantee turnout. ⸻ 12. Economic performance is Tinubu’s biggest vulnerability Tinubu’s political argument will essentially be: “The reforms were painful, but they are working.” His opponents will argue: “Whatever the macroeconomic improvements, ordinary Nigerians are still suffering.” Reuters reported that economic hardship and insecurity remain major political liabilities for the administration, with public sentiment significantly negative. Therefore, the election could become a referendum on: * food prices * fuel prices * electricity * unemployment * insecurity * purchasing power * exchange rate * wages * taxation * infrastructure * corruption * government credibility. If Nigerians broadly conclude that their personal economic circumstances have improved by early 2027, Tinubu’s probability rises significantly. If the opposite happens, the opposition gets a powerful opening. ⸻ 13. My scenario analysis Here’s how I would model the election today. Scenario A — Opposition remains divided Tinubu: 50–60% chance of winning Obi and Atiku split the anti-APC vote. Tinubu wins enough South-West + North-West + scattered northern and southern states. This is currently my base case. ⸻ Scenario B — Obi/Kwankwaso develops a genuine national coalition Tinubu: ~40–45% Obi: ~40–45% Atiku: ~10–15% This would require NDC to perform strongly in: South-East + South-South + North-Central + Kano + Lagos. This is the scenario in which Tinubu could genuinely lose. ⸻ Scenario C — Atiku builds a dominant northern coalition Then the election becomes: Tinubu vs Atiku with Obi remaining a strong third candidate. Atiku would need to dominate much of: North-East + North-West + North-Central while breaking into the South. This is possible, but difficult because Kwankwaso is now on Obi’s ticket, not Atiku’s. ⸻ Scenario D — Tinubu’s economic reforms gain broad acceptance Then I would move Tinubu to: 60%+ probability because incumbency + APC machinery + South-West + northern alliances become very difficult to overcome. ⸻ Scenario E — Economic hardship worsens substantially Then the election becomes extremely unpredictable. A significant anti-incumbent wave could allow an opposition candidate to win even without dominating the traditional regional map. ⸻ 14. The biggest question: Can Obi defeat Tinubu without Atiku? This is the question I would watch most closely. My answer today: Yes, theoretically. But it is difficult. Obi’s path requires something like: South-East — overwhelming win South-South — strong win North-Central — significant gains Lagos — competitive Kano — substantial Kwankwaso vote at least 25% in enough states across the federation. That’s a difficult but not impossible coalition. His greatest advantage is that Kwankwaso expands his geographical reach. His greatest disadvantage is that Atiku remains in the race and continues to absorb northern and anti-Tinubu voters. ⸻ 15. And Atiku’s path? Atiku needs: North + enough South. He probably needs to dominate the North-East and become extremely competitive in the North-West. Then Amaechi must deliver meaningful South-South votes. But there’s a problem: Obi is competing for the same anti-Tinubu southern electorate. And Kwankwaso is competing for the same northern electorate. That makes Atiku’s path narrower than it was in 2023. ⸻ 16. My electoral map at this moment If I had to make a very early October 2026 projection, I would describe the race this way: Candidate Biggest advantage Biggest weakness Current outlook Tinubu/APC Incumbency + party machinery + SW + northern structure Economy/cost of living 🟢 Favourite Obi/NDC Youth + South-East + South-South + Kwankwaso Need much wider national reach 🟡 Strongest upset possibility Atiku/ADC Northern network + experience + Amaechi Obi/Kwankwaso splitting his potential coalition 🟡 Competitive but constrained Makinde/APM Strong personal profile + Oyo/SW Limited national machinery 🟠 Spoiler more than favourite The final candidate list confirms that the field contains 18 candidates, but realistically the presidential race is currently centred on Tinubu, Obi and Atiku, with Makinde potentially affecting the South-West vote. ⸻ 17. The Guardian article actually reveals something bigger I wouldn’t interpret the article as saying: “The North-West will decide the election.” I’d interpret it as: “The candidate who can combine the North-West with one major southern bloc will have the clearest route to Aso Rock.” That’s the mathematical heart of the election. Because: North-West = 25.08m South-West = 19.61m Together: 44.70 million registered voters. If one candidate can secure a dominant share of both regions, the other candidates face an enormous uphill battle. That’s why Tinubu’s current structural position is so strong. But it is also why Obi + Kwankwaso is potentially dangerous to Tinubu: Kwankwaso gives Obi a mechanism for attacking the North-West while Obi provides Kwankwaso with a powerful southern coalition. ⸻ My bottom line As of October 6, 2026, I would put Tinubu as the favourite — but not as an unbeatable favourite. The race currently looks roughly like: Tinubu — 50% Obi — 25% Atiku — 20% Others collectively — 5% Those are probability estimates, not vote-share predictions. And I would attach a big asterisk to them. The election can change dramatically if any of these three things happen: 1. Obi and Atiku reach an electoral understanding. This would be the biggest threat to Tinubu. 2. The economy improves materially before January 2027. This could make Tinubu very difficult to defeat. 3. Obi/Kwankwaso successfully convert their regional popularity into actual turnout. This could transform the race from a Tinubu advantage into a genuine three-way contest. One particularly interesting point is that the opposition’s fragmentation is not necessarily permanent. Nigeria’s 2015 election demonstrated that a sufficiently broad opposition coalition can defeat an incumbent. Reuters notes that the 2015 election remains the clearest precedent for an incumbent being defeated through opposition consolidation. So if I were advising a political campaign, I would not focus primarily on the 103.4 million registered voters. I would build the strategy around the roughly 30–40 million Nigerians most likely to actually vote — and identify which candidate can assemble 13–15 million votes across enough states to win. AI |
