Mrexcell:This government can do and undo. They can meet top phone brands, give them license, prevent indigenous retailing and tell Nigerians that only buy phones from Xin Hua or Lụọ Bin Enterprises. I fear this government pass Freddie Krueger. |

Kobicove:Yes, it's true — NCC is enforcing it now. Here is the clarification on that broadcast: *What is _315#?* It's the official NCC USSD code to check if your phone/device IMEI is in the NCC Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) under their new *Device Management System (DMS)*. When you dial *\_315#* it will show: - Your IMEI number(s) - If the device is *Type Approved / Compliant* (approved for use in Nigeria) - If it is *not compliant*, it may be blocked from all networks after the enforcement window. *Why is NCC doing this?* 1. To block stolen phones - if you report stolen phone, they can block the IMEI nationwide. 2. To stop fake / substandard / cloned IMEI phones 3. To ensure all SIM-enabled devices (phones, tablets, mifi, smartwatches) sold in Nigeria are properly registered and type-approved. *Will your phone be blocked in 30 days?* Not immediately for end users, but this is how it works: - NCC gave dealers, importers, OEMs deadline to register ALL phones in their shops. Deadline was shifted from Sept 7 to *October 6, 2026* because traders complained portal had glitches. - After that, any *unregistered / non type-approved device* will not be allowed to connect to MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9mobile networks. NCC said: _"Devices that are not duly registered will not be permitted to operate on Nigerian networks"_. 45555947 For you as a user: - If you bought your phone long ago in Nigeria, it is likely already whitelisted. But dial _315# to confirm. - If you bought a brand new phone now, or you import from abroad (UK used, etc), and the seller did not register its IMEI in the DMS, it will be flagged. - The system is *NOT* reading your chats or photos — NCC said it only stores IMEI, not personal content. 5947 *What to do:* 1. Dial *\_315#* on that phone and follow prompt. Or dial *\_#06#* to get IMEI and check via NCC website if provided. 2. If it says compliant / approved — you are safe. 3. If it says not compliant / not registered — go back to your seller. The responsibility is on the seller/importer to register it and pay the small NCC fee (about ₦670 per phone). For already used personal phones, NCC is expected to provide an appeal/regularization window. 4. Keep your phone receipt / carton with IMEI. 1dca Do you want me to help you check what your phone shows after dialing _315#? Just tell me the message you saw. |

That was how they threatened with sim card registration. "To fight insecurity, all SIM cards must be registered so that they can track every phone call and trace them to their owners!" But how market? Bandits and kidnappers are still very bold in using phones to communicate and collect ransom. Make NCC go sidon abeg! |

TheStoriesOfMan:Anytime I am called to fix a Xiaomi phones by some of my colleagues, it is almost always the issue of instrusive ads. I currently use Infinix, even though I could have purchased Redmi of almost the same Spec because the price I purchased this Infinix was more costly than the Redmi I initially set my eyes on. But I had a change of mind because of the Many intrusive ads, that often shows up after some months of use. |

NCC should go rot in hell! Phones not approved are not supposed to find themselves in the retail shelves in the first place. A good lawyer will rip a good financial windmill from these dweebs. |

| Re: NCC Might Block Your Phone In 30 Days by gulfer: 1:19pm On Oct 10 |
Shouldn't we ask the questions about what plans they have if you device is not approved when the same federal government are the ones issuing import licenses and trade licenses to all the major phone makers and distributors. citizens should not be made to suffer government's duty dereliction and lack of planning. So a people that is already pauperized and can barely feed are now to contend with changing phones. this is ill-timed by NCC ![]() |
