FROM A 2-YEAR Samsung Electronics WARRANTY TO A ₦7 MILLION COUNTERCLAIM: MY NEARLY 4-YEAR LEGAL BATTLE WITH SAMSUNG NIGERIA. I bought a brand-new Samsung Galaxy A73 5G for ₦321,000, with a TWO-YEAR WARRANTY boldly written on its packaging. Less than a month later, the phone developed its first fault. What followed was something I never imagined. Several months of repeated faults and repairs. A stranger unlocking my phone with HIS fingerprint. A questionable panel repair. A lower-priced replacement. And a ₦7 MILLION counterclaim from the retailer. Almost FOUR YEARS later, I'm still seeking a fair resolution. **This is my story.** On October 13, 2022, I purchased a brand-new Samsung Galaxy A73 5G from Finet Communication Limited in Enugu State, Nigeria. **Purchase price: ₦321,000.** I wasn't buying a fairly used or refurbished phone. I bought a brand-new device with a TWO-YEAR WARRANTY prominently printed on its packaging. I believed I was paying for quality and peace of mind. I was already a Samsung customer. I had purchased other Samsung products, including a television. I specifically chose the Galaxy A73 5G because of its features, especially its 108MP main camera. The specifications mattered to me. I trusted the Samsung brand and expected the phone to serve me reliably. Unfortunately, that confidence didn't last. On November 4, 2022, less than a month after purchase, the phone switched off. After charging and restarting it, Flight Mode activated by itself. I couldn't turn it off. The phone lost its mobile network connection. I restarted it repeatedly. Nothing worked. Imagine spending ₦321,000 on a new phone and experiencing this within the first month. I waited approximately two days to rule out a SIM-related problem. Then I returned to Finet Communication Limited. They directed me to a Samsung service centre. An engineer named Mr. Idris opened the phone, adjusted something internally, and restored the network. I wasn't given a formal repair record. I hoped that would be the end of it. In January 2023, the SAME problem returned. I visited the service centre again. Another temporary fix. Again, I received no formal repair documentation. By February 2023, the fault returned for the THIRD time. I was frustrated. But something happened during that February visit that disturbed me even more. **I WATCHED ANOTHER CUSTOMER UNLOCK MY PHONE WITH HIS FINGERPRINT.** At the Samsung service centre, an engineer mistakenly handed my phone to another customer. The man thought it was his device. He used his fingerprint. **MY PHONE UNLOCKED.** He only realised the mistake when he started checking the phone. I witnessed this personally. Imagine seeing a complete stranger unlock your personal phone. What if he had accessed sensitive information? My banking apps? My private conversations? My business records? I was shocked. The incident raised serious concerns for me about the device and the service process. The engineer investigated further and told me the phone had a faulty panel. In February 2023, I was informed that my phone required a PANEL REPLACEMENT. The repair was handled through **Raya Distribution Nigeria Limited**, which was involved in Samsung's repair and service process. I was told the faulty panel would be changed. I trusted that explanation because I expected an authorised repair process to resolve the problem. Remember, this was the SAME network and Flight Mode fault that had occurred in November 2022 and January 2023. I wasn't complaining about a new issue. I had repeatedly returned the phone because the original problem kept coming back. By February, I expected a proper diagnosis and a permanent solution. The phone was collected for panel repairs. I was promised it would be ready within a week. It took longer than promised. This happened during Nigeria's CBN cash scarcity crisis, when having a functioning phone was especially important for my business. Eventually, I received the phone back. I was informed that the panel had been replaced. I hoped the nightmare was finally over. **BUT IN APRIL 2023, THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM RETURNED.** Flight Mode activated again. The phone lost its mobile network connection. The same fault that had supposedly been addressed through the February panel replacement was back. I was stunned. Wasn't the panel replacement supposed to resolve this problem? What exactly had been repaired? This raised serious questions in my mind about the repair carried out through Raya Distribution Nigeria Limited. **Was the panel actually replaced as I had been told?** If it was replaced, why did the same fault return? Was the original diagnosis incorrect? Was the replacement defective? Or had the underlying cause never been properly identified? These were questions I believed deserved clear answers. Let me be clear. I cannot independently confirm whether the panel was physically replaced. I was not provided with documentation sufficient to verify the work. What I know is this: I was told the panel had been changed. I received the phone back. And the SAME problem returned. That experience seriously damaged my confidence in the quality and effectiveness of the repair. In April, the service centre temporarily restored the phone again. By May 2023, the fault returned AGAIN. At that point, I had lost confidence in the device. How many times should a customer return a brand-new phone for the same problem? How many temporary fixes should be acceptable under a TWO-YEAR WARRANTY? I refused another temporary repair. **I DEMANDED A REPLACEMENT.** After further discussions with the service centre and Finet Communication Limited, my phone was collected for replacement. **Date: June 2, 2023.** I was promised a replacement within SEVEN DAYS. I thought I would finally get a working phone and move on with my life. Unfortunately, the process dragged on. Seven days passed. Two weeks passed. One month passed. Still no replacement. I kept following up. At one point, I was told the phone might be repaired again rather than replaced. I was also told that if I wasn't satisfied, I could go to court. After several months of faults and repeated repairs, those words were deeply frustrating. **On July 28, 2023, I finally received a replacement.** My phone had been collected on June 2. I had been promised seven days. Instead, I waited until July 28. By then, I had already endured several months of repeated faults, repairs, complaints, and disruption to my business. But the replacement itself brought another problem. I bought a Samsung Galaxy A73 5G. But I was given a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G. I asked why. I was told the A73 was unavailable. However, I had specifically chosen the A73 for its features, including its 108MP main camera. The A54 had a 50MP main camera. I understood that megapixels alone don't determine photo quality, but the A73's specifications influenced my original choice. I decided to investigate the selling prices at the same Finet Communication shop. These were the prices reported to me as of July 28, 2023: **Samsung A73 5G: ₦389,000** **Samsung A54 5G: ₦296,000** **DIFFERENCE: ₦93,000.** I had originally paid ₦321,000 for the A73 in October 2022. Now I was receiving a different model reportedly selling for ₦93,000 less than the A73 at the time of replacement. I contacted my lawyer. He advised me to accept the A54 because being without a functioning phone was already affecting my business. We would pursue the ₦93,000 difference and compensation separately. So I accepted the replacement. Not because I considered the dispute settled. But because I needed a working phone. As the dispute continued, I was contacted by Samsung representatives from the United States and South Africa. **I DID NOT REACH OUT TO THEM. THEY REACHED OUT TO ME.** Eventually, a representative from South Africa called me. She discussed the possibility of exchanging the A54 for an A73 or equivalent device. But there was a condition. **I WOULD HAVE TO ADD MONEY.** I refused. By then, the A73 had reportedly increased in price. Why should I pay extra to obtain an equivalent replacement for a phone that developed faults during its warranty period? My position was simple. Provide a fair equivalent or address the ₦93,000 difference. I retained a recording of the relevant conversation. My lawyer requested the outstanding price difference and reasonable compensation for the inconvenience and losses I had suffered. But instead of the financial resolution I was seeking, I received Samsung-branded gifts. A bag. A power bank. A water bottle. A pen. A jotter. I appreciated that items had been sent, but they did not resolve my complaint. As the dispute continued, questions arose about responsibility among the businesses involved. Some parties disputed their responsibility or association with Samsung. Yet I had received Samsung-branded gifts, and the accompanying DHL paperwork contained details I considered relevant. I preserved the documentation. I wanted clarity about who was responsible for resolving my warranty complaint. Then came my conversation with a lawyer representing Samsung, whom I knew as Barrister Omokaro. During our discussion, he mentioned attending the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and being from Delta State. That gave me a sense of familiarity. I felt I was speaking with someone I could relate to, almost like a brother. I genuinely hoped we could find a reasonable solution. But when I raised the outstanding ₦93,000 difference, the tone of our conversation changed. As I recall it, he questioned whether I had the financial capacity to fight a company as big as Samsung. He referred to people with similar disputes who, according to him, had spent FOUR YEARS in court without achieving anything. His remarks left me feeling I was being told I was too small to challenge Samsung. I was stunned. **Was I supposed to abandon my complaint because Samsung is a multinational company?** Does the size of a company determine whether an ordinary customer deserves fair treatment? I had expected reassurance or a meaningful discussion about resolution. Instead, I felt discouraged by the prospect of an expensive legal battle. And while I was dealing with Samsung's legal representative, another development made the situation even more shocking. Remember Finet Communication Limited? The retailer that sold me the phone? Its legal response included a counterclaim against me. Not ₦93,000. Not ₦321,000. **SEVEN MILLION NAIRA.** **FINET COMMUNICATION LIMITED COUNTERCLAIMED ₦7,000,000 AGAINST ME.** According to the court document: **₦5,000,000** was claimed as general and special damages for what Finet described as a frivolous suit and damage to its company's image. **₦2,000,000** was claimed as litigation costs. **TOTAL: ₦7 MILLION.** This was a counterclaim sought in court, not a judgment awarding that amount. Think about that. I purchased a phone from Finet. It developed repeated faults. I returned to the retailer for assistance. I sought a warranty remedy. And now I had to respond to a ₦7 MILLION counterclaim. **How did I go from being a customer seeking a warranty remedy to defending myself against a ₦7 MILLION counterclaim?** Finet's position in its court filing was that it was an authorised dealer and that after-sales repairs and replacement were the responsibility of the designated service provider. That was its defence. But from my perspective, I had purchased the product from its shop and expected meaningful assistance. Instead, I found myself dealing with lawyers and a multimillion-naira counterclaim. What audacity, I thought. I wasn't asking for a free phone. I wasn't trying to take advantage of anyone. I had paid ₦321,000 for a brand-new Samsung device with a TWO-YEAR WARRANTY. It developed its first fault within the first month. I endured repeated repairs and received a lower-priced replacement. All I wanted was a fair resolution. How did that become a legal battle lasting years? Fortunately, I had preserved records. My purchase receipt. Correspondence. Repair and replacement details. Records of relevant conversations. Documents relating to the counterclaim. I knew that my account needed to be supported by evidence. This was not simply a disagreement over whether I liked a phone. It was a dispute over how a warranty complaint had been handled. The matter eventually reached court and was referred to the Enugu Multi-Door Courthouse for alternative dispute resolution. I hoped mediation would bring an end to the dispute. But I encountered another problem. This time, with my own legal representation. My former lawyer repeatedly told me the judge wasn't sitting. I became concerned about delays and whether evidence I had provided was being submitted as expected. I later learned of a personal connection between my lawyer and opposing counsel. I cannot speak to anyone's motives. But I lost confidence in how my case was being handled. I eventually hired another lawyer and incurred additional legal fees. My new lawyer followed up with the Enugu Multi-Door Courthouse. During mediation, an agreement was reached that was intended to be adopted in court. **On July 17, 2026, a separate understanding was also reached outside that formal arrangement.** The separate understanding was not documented as part of the agreement intended for court adoption. These were two distinct arrangements. **TODAY IS OCTOBER 12, 2026.** Nearly THREE MONTHS have passed since the understanding reached on **July 17, 2026**. Yet, as of today, no representative of Samsung has meaningfully reached out to me to discuss or address the outstanding commitments under that separate understanding. I have also sent a follow-up email without receiving a response. After everything I have endured since 2022, this continued silence is deeply disappointing. For clarity, **I am NOT alleging that Samsung or anyone else disobeyed a court judgment.** My complaint concerns the separate, undocumented understanding, not compliance with a court judgment. Looking back, what hurts most isn't just the ₦93,000 difference. It's the entire experience. A phone developing faults within the first month. Repeated visits to the service centre. A stranger unlocking my device with his fingerprint. A panel replacement I was told had been carried out, followed by the same fault returning. Months of inconvenience. Then years of legal proceedings. Samsung Nigeria and Raya Distribution Nigeria Limited, I believe I deserve a clear explanation of the February 2023 repair. **Was the panel actually replaced?** What parts were changed? What diagnostic tests were performed? Why did the same fault return? I am not claiming to have proof that the panel was never changed. I am asking reasonable questions about a repair that did not permanently resolve the problem. I also believe the role of the lawyers involved deserves reflection. I had hoped Samsung's legal representative would help find a practical resolution. Instead, I came away feeling discouraged from pursuing my complaint. And I was deeply disappointed that Finet's response included a ₦7 million counterclaim. I believe customers should be able to raise genuine complaints without feeling overwhelmed by the legal process. Almost FOUR YEARS after purchasing the phone, I am still seeking a fair and final resolution. I am using this platform to publicly express my deep dissatisfaction with my experience of Samsung products and how my warranty complaint was handled in Nigeria. I was a loyal Samsung customer. I trusted the brand. But this experience has seriously damaged that trust. To every Nigerian consumer: Keep your purchase receipts. Preserve your product packaging and warranty details. Request written repair reports. Document every visit to a service centre. Keep emails and correspondence. Ask for the exact parts replaced during repairs. Your records may become important if a dispute arises. I am not asking the public to decide the legal issues in this matter. I am sharing my personal experience and the questions I believe remain unanswered. I have retained relevant documentation, including my purchase receipt, correspondence, and court records. I want transparency, accountability, and a fair resolution. Nothing more. **DEAR SAMSUNG,** My Galaxy A73 5G developed its first fault less than a month into a TWO-YEAR WARRANTY. I endured several months of repeated faults, repairs, complaints, and a frustrating replacement process. I received a different model with a reported ₦93,000 price difference. And the dispute became a nearly four-year legal ordeal. **On July 17, 2026, a separate understanding was reached. Nearly three months later, I am still waiting for meaningful communication regarding its outstanding commitments.** I respectfully ask that those commitments be addressed so this matter can finally be resolved. **A customer's voice should matter, regardless of how powerful the company is.** Please repost this thread if you believe Nigerian consumers deserve fair treatment. #SamsungNigeria #ConsumerRights #ConsumerProtection #CorporateAccountability #JusticeForConsumers

There is what they called service legal Agreement between Fintech and Samsung and one of them is found guilty of it. This same thing happened in SLOT around the same year and the customer was ready to take it to court, SLOT gave the customer a replacement just to avoid embarrassment and since Samsung is taking longer time to replace the phone. The funny thing is that A SLOT took Samsung to court because there was a bridge of their agreement but it was later resolved out of court. I got this info around 2023 but it happened 2022 coindecimal: |

Your Samsung Galaxy A26 5G is not verified for use on Nigerian mobile networks. You have 30 cumulative days before disconnection. Contact your seller or dial 315. The above is the message I just received on a recently purchased Samsung |

They should have sued you for 1billion. You never win it all. Faulty phone, fine. Their bad. Years of repairs, free of charge on the company’s expense. Phone was finally replaced. At this point I’m not saying your intentions are not valid, but bro let sleeping dogs lie. Count your loss and move on. There are fights you just ignore. You chose to fight on. You are not wrong in any way o, but learn to choose your fights wisely |

I don't know what to say. This is very sad. Everything boils down to leadership. Samsung cannot try this in South Africa or United States, they know the consequences. The OP really did a diligent duty documenting every evidence. That is the weapon to get justice. |

You are a very patient person. Consumer right is almost non existent in Nigeria. In countries like the UK , this would have been replaced or fully refunded from the first complaint. |

Well, all I can say is “good luck” to you. You have a very valid case here that you can win but the issue is the country and environment we find ourselves in. I just hope your lawyer is not one to be easily swayed and knows his onions. I wish you all the best bro. Pele. However, I must also point out that you have a very “strong-headed” personality. It is good sometimes o, but at other times, it isn’t just worth it. Especially in a country where you can be easily framed by the powers that be. Sometimes, it is also best to accept your loss and move on. Lessons have been learnt though. Sorry sir |

I think it is time for FCCPC to earn their keep. The paper trail showed the user was given a defective phone, bore multiple costs due to the phone failing, eventually received a lower gadget as compensation, and is being stiff-armed to accept it in good faith. Finet’s position that they are only a retailer does not absolve them of their responsibilities towards their customers. Was the user supposed to travel down to South Korea to see the CEO for a warranty service? If possible, he should copy all of the parties concerned for a resolution. The user is on a good path that will set the tone for companies that are looking to cut corners. |

It’s sad you had to go to court over such an non-issue. I once had a similar issue with slot (including the numerous back and forths). I googled “consumer protection in Nigeria, found FCCPC, went to their office, wrote a complaint as I was asked to, attached receipt copy and got a full refund. Yes, I was so frustrated cos the replacements were just as bad as the first purchase! Oh, I must add, FCCPC didn’t charge a cent for the service. How about you try The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) of Nigeria { formally known as the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC)}? Governments have changed, staff may have changed too. Even the name has changed too so, I can’t vouch that you’d receive same quality of service. All the best! |

Nice one OP,follow it to a logical conclusion & possible resolution, these companies be doing too much once they feel the consumer can be intimidated,i can tell you for free they see you as a bone lodged in the neck with your patience, don't quit, fight to the later & i promise you will get justice. It may be delayed like it's been delayed but won't be denied. If this had happened in the U.S or even South Africa, Samsung & the other alias will be paying through their nostrils but then again,it's Nigeria "where anything goes" & they're cashing in on that but not to worry, maintain your stand,it's your right. Don't mind your previous lawyer that threw you under the bus for a few pieces of silver,he no get level. |
