Ohyoudidnt:Anyone who thinks the U plans to eradicate terrorism in Nigeria is very naive. Terrorism is their leverage over Nigeria. It’s the excuse they have to get us to do what they want us to do. Anyone who actually thinks they want the terrorism to end probably thinks the war in Iran is about nuclear weapons too. |

XtremeConsumer:I really don't know. But when caught and reintegrated back into the society with some on their way to joining the security forces you can understand where this is going. They want to force your government to draw red lines. Just like the Christian genocide thing. Have you heard of more notorious massacres for a while, no. The US message has gotten through and the government must have called certain groups to order. Groups that they knew all along were carrying out these massacres but could not act for whatever reason on them. There is always a message behind a message. Someone is obviously complaining to the US about this amnesty/reintegration thing. It is called pressure. |

ogolemati:I never was a tinubu supporter, you assumed I was one because i backed subsidy removal. I tend to have a very cynical view of most governments in nigeria, if not all. Many of them, if not all, are more slogans, less sacrifical hard work and making sane decisions for the improvement of the country long term. Tinubu removing subsidy was more of 'he had no choice'...because Nigeria was at ground zero financially speaking by 2022. Not because he was some courageous leader taking a hard decsion (or he would have removed subsidy on electricity by now too, and actually fought corruption). |

nairalanda1:What’s your definition of fighting corruption? Arresting people and locking them up? That’s for simpletons! In a country where everybody is corrupt, the system is corrupt, you won’t get far. You will just make noise and nothing will happen. The most effective victory against corruption is removing the avenues for corruption in the first place. In that respect the biggest sources of corruption in Nigeria have been fuel and forex subsidies………both have been eliminated. |

casualobserver:No , day to day petty corruption , plus things like inflation of contracts and nepotism are the two main powers of corruption (Plus why didn';t tinubu support fuel subsidy removal in 2012 since removing it has eliminated corruption? ). |

nairalanda1:1: In that respect you need to eliminate all Nigerians. The average Nigerian complaining of those types of corruption is equally guilty. I hope you understand what is meant by the system is corrupt. It means the actors are corrupt. You stop those types of corruption by removing the avenues for corruption. As an example you make government payments digitally….no cash etc. are you going to sack most civil servants, police, investigators, judges, prosecutors, bankers and the citizens to enable or engage in the corruption? Sometimes we need to let our supposed education reflect in our commentary. 2: ask and answer why are obi and Atiku supporting the restoration of subsidy and you have your answer. I suspect this is leaning towards an emotional debate not an intellectual one, so I’ll take my leave here. |

casualobserver:You also promote economic polices that create an economy that is less dependent on sharing revenues at the center and more dependent on industries and taxes...which your government has not done You also punish anyone caught....which has not been done And you also stop defending or appointing corrupt people to office,...which has not been done. 2: ask and answer why are obi and Atiku supporting the restoration of subsidy and you have your answer.Yea, it is politics, and it shows that your politicans are not sincere, yet you believe your man is sincere. |

FSBoperator:Boko has been around for over 2 decades, and various Nigerian governments have failed to stop it. This government took power with the promise that they would handle the problem, and three years later , the problem is there. You got to realize that at some point, a government that is failing is not serious. We can't always blame the foreigners or external forces..for issues within our control. |

nairalanda1:Like I said this is clearly an emotional debate not an intellectual one. One sure sign of emotional debates is not sticking to the subject. I only quoted you to show that optics and effectiveness are 2 different things. You can fight corruption by removing the pot from which they steal or you can “fight corruption” by arresting people and nothing happens. For every corrupt Nigerian you arrest and parade, there is a long line of equally corrupt Nigerians waiting to take their place to partake in their own corruption……unless to stop access to the corruption. Fuel and forex subsidy probably accounted for at least $20b theft every year. If I give you $1 at the official rate of N400 and you sell it on the black market for N800, you have stolen N400 or 50ents from Nigerian citizens. I don’t have to explain fuel subsidy fraud to you. Not all noise ends in results and not all effective results need to be noisy. The choice is yours. Whether you like the man or not, whether he was forced to or not by circumstances, have the intellectual sincerity to accept that the biggest fraud in Nigeria prior to 2023 was fuel and forex subsidies and they have been removed. Have a good day! |
