Alumni Of Federal Government College Ilorin Would Be Ashamed by TenQ(op): 7:49pm On Oct 14
There was a time when only the BEST students got admitted into the Federal Government Colleges in Nigeria.

I remember, at times when many schools were celebrating their best students having 5 or 6 Credits in their WASC or GCE, at FGC Ilorin the Question usually to a recent graduate from the school was How Many Distinctions do you have?

This was because the worst result in the school was usually about 5 or 6 Credits and so, it is by the number of A's that distinguished you. Those with less the 4 A's were ashamed to post their results.

When it was in terms of ANY competition amongst Secondary Schools, trust FGC Ilorin to top the chart in both Sports, Debates, Academics etc.

UNFORTUNATELY,
Those days seem permanently gone.
FGC Ilorin is unrecognisable: it is now like a school for Almajiri.

JAMB Results: You dont hear of FGC Ilorin again
WASC Results: You dont hear of FGC Ilorin again
Secondary School Sport: You dont hear of FGC Ilorin again
Secondary School Debates: You dont hear of FGC Ilorin again

What kind of Naija demons ENTERED the Government/Administrators of the School?

Even now in 2026 in Nigeria, how many schools can field a girls Badminton Team with 32 Rackets?

It's not the school that changed

It's people that changed

The priority changed...

I understand that Nigeria has changed.
Values have changed.

My problem is the fact that the PURPOSE for the school is FORGOTTEN

Religious identity is now the new Purpose.

FGC Ilorin, an A-list school that has become a school of Al-Majiri.

This was what they wanted and they have gotten it. Anything they touch or control rots and finally dies in their hands.

Can you make your children attend FGC in Nigeria?

This one is even better, if you see FGC Ijanikin, you'll do the sign of the cross.

A once glamourous school that I was hoping my children would attend suddenly became a breeding ground for cultists.

Government has really destroyed this country beyond repair. Most citizens just haven't realized it yet.

Can FGC Ijanikim be worse than this!?

If you knew how FGC Ilorin used to be: It was like after Kings College, Lagos, that was the next.

Federal Government destroyed the school. The first point was the so-called exchange or quota students they got. Most of them came from the North and some couldn't even speak good English. Although usually after like two years many of them became much better.

Now, no-one knows how people got into any of the FGCs. You won't believe that at a time in FGC Ilorin, quite a number of the teachers had M.Sc and PhD.

FGC Ilorin looking like Ile- Kewu shows how well the Government values Education in Nigeria.

The people who live in an area determine what the school looks like, maybe that's how majority of those who live around there dresses

No sir.

FGC Ilorin was a purely secular school until some people felt that Islam should be projected through the school.

FGC Ilorin was model after King's College Lagos in a lot of ways before this madness.

The student's academic performance FELL drastically with this Islamisation initiative. The Best schools in Ilorin now are either Private Colleges or Church Mission Colleges to their shame. This can easily be verified just look for the best results in the last 10 years in JAMB or WASC in Kwara State.

Like every other thing in Nigeria, it is now being used to project religion and to assert dominance of that territory. They might as well convert it to a Quranic school.

This is the their problem with these people with the religion of peiece.

Like virus, they enter a good system
They multiply
They kill and destroy the system.

It is their normal behaviour

Pls keep your fucking mouth shut up. I though initially you are writing something sensible not untill I saw thru your bias, myopic and shallow thinking through that pics.

So because majority of the students now wear hijab, brings about your old glory days as you're the best 😆. Pls who tell those students are not performing to the best of their abilities.

What you're describing is not peculiar to FGC alone, the moral and academic decadence in the country is very pathetic, so don't try to attribute that to bias assembly pics.

Now let me burst your bubble. Kwara sate has won both national and international debate competition back to back in recent history courtesy of many brilliant minds from various schools in Ilorin not just fgc. There were always a debate competition among on broadcast live on Radio Kwara stations in Ilorin every month by subeb through Prof. Adaramanja coordination.

Many of these student are from various schools in Ilorin including fgc and doing excellently well both within and outside the country in debate and academic excellence.

Kwara state is good and they have very good schools.

Many of the schools have produced excellent results in both JAMB and SSCE year in year out and I can mention names of schools like this.

My argument is that FGC Ilorin used to be the ALL ROUND best secondary school in Ilorin.
However in the last ten years FGC Ilorin is nowhere to be found.

For any old Alumni of FGC Ilorin, this is a shock: I don't know if you are one.

sorry that it may look like an attack on Islam but it isn't. It is against people who throw away the ancient goals for something else

I am very sorry for my initial outburst, perhaps I misjudge your intentions.

No doubt that is truth. Infact during those days in eighties I could fgc is always reserved for best brains then follow by unity schools. FGC is for those with excellent common entrance results but like I said before that academic decadence has set in and mostly those admitted not only in Ilorin but all over Nigeria.

While I may not exactly know the present general performance of fgc in Ilorin but performance might not be top notch like your good old days really.

I remembered during those days when doing out interview at Queen Elizabeth I think you that place, we that performed well we're chosen then for unity schools that next to those that have earlier shortlisted for fgc. But nothing of sort now, everything is about who knows who now.

Once again pardon me for my earlier remarks. No doubt we use to regards those that went to FGC truly then, but thank God we were not that brain dead o atleast I have good five As in my WAEC and I am not FGC alumni. No doubt lot of good school are now in Ilorin though.

Even if you could go back into the past, you still won't be able to change anything.
That place the school is located now is highly I influenced by those who live around the area.

Unlike before when people who schooled there came all the way from adewole, phase 1 and phase 2 estate and very far places. No religious attachments, just people learning and graduating with intelligence.

Unlike now, even the parents enrolling their kids now are something else. Sorry but there isn't anything you can change. Forget and move on grin

Hey my Friend, you offend me NOT o!
I think we all mean the best.

We hope that someone somewhere will note this and recall that this school was designed for a purpose.

I think it is the same systemic rot affecting the whole nation. Politicians are in just for their cut of the National cake. Looting had been perfected from the Executive to the Senate and to the Legislature.

Things fall apart and the centre cannot hold!

Unfortunately, most Federal Government Secondary Schools are NOW like this.

What do you expect from a Nation that does not Value Education?

What do you expect from a Nation that does not understand why her youths should be Educated?

What do you expect from a Nation that prefers Importation to Exportation?

What do you expect from a Nation that does not see Brain Drain of her Elites as any Problem?

This is Nigeria!

Yes: We had students from ALL over the states of the Federation. Many Rich and Powerful People's Children were in FGC Ilorin.

The Teachers were excellent and they did their best to forge us into excellent students

Did you meet Alhaji Monite?
He was the House Master for many years before he became the Principal.

The new management have what they have planned for. They removed the standard they met and instituted the one they preferred.
