My immediate elder brother borrowed some money from me recently, and even before I gave him the money,I knew he had a plan. And I already knew what he intended on doing,so I gave him the money after so much pleading and promising to pay back the following day. Lo and behold,I called my bro, called his wife but none of them took my calls grin. Next thing I saw was that my bro had equally blocked my number angry.

Omoh,I just maintained my steeze, cuz even my elder bro must had been expecting a fight from me but I just overlooked everything, and learnt my lesson. Tho he's been avoiding me since then but I no really too dey reason am again.
I have learned from my lending mistakes, nowadays I don't lend money to close friends/relatives: If you come to me to borrow 100k, i will tell you that I don't have such amount - i will just give you 10k - for free.

It's only the people that lend other people money and they don't pay back we will see on this thread.

No one will talk about all the money they have lent including from loan apps and close friends that they have refused to pay.

Perhaps, they are angry seeing thread like this. Now they're strategically thinking of how to step up their game. cool

For one's peace of mind, lend money that you can afford to loose because to get the money back, it may be thug of war or you may not get it again.

Some Nigerians are looking for who to exploit or outsmart for their selfish gain.
Hope we can now see why loan companies send horrible messages to people

If a family can block you after he borrowed money from you, what did you think he will do to palmpay, okash, easemoni etc

Most Nigerians deserve the disgrace they are getting from online loan platforms

It is this new idea of lending what you can forfeit that will cause the next set of problems in this country.

If borrowers start getting the idea that the person lending is helping with whatever amount so that he can forfeit it if things go South, borrowers might start getting entitled or start borrowing in the hope that the lender has given what he can ignore, if push comes to shove.

I urge all borrowers (people asking for money or loan) to make good on their word and pay back.

I have been in the exact same situation as your friend.

I borrowed 200k from a close friend and things didn't go as planned, in fact i didn't recover from my financial slumber for years. During this time as much as i didn't want to lose our friendship, i tried avoiding him.

You have to understand that the person who is been owed would always ask from time to time his money, but what if you, the borrower is in a position where you cannot pay the money because you are dirt poor? The human feeling in that situation for the borrower is not try to be more friendly with you, because he is dying with immense guilt and embarrassment. He may be your bone man, but his feelings make him stay away. This may still happen even if you assure him not to worry about it.

I tried to stay friends with my friend, but i know that many times i avoided him and he knew the reason. Fortunately, he has an amazing level of maturity and so over the years, he wrote off the debt and it made me feel better gisting and sharing old memories with him. As soon as i got into a better position, i sent the money to him after 5 years.

Your friend is only acting that way because he's human. If you know him as a good person, then he still is a good person, but he is terrible guilty and embarrassed with the situation.
I get your point. I have never been in that position but i disagree the way you affirmed your point that the person might be avoiding the lender due to shame and all other excuses you gave.

Bros, to some, you might be correct. While Some people just find it hard refunding money borrowed. Some do not even have intention of refunding.

So, dont generalised or be their mouthpiece. You can only be certain about yourself.

Your friend is only acting that way because he's human. If you know him as a good person, then he still is a good person, but he is terrible guilty and embarrassed with the situation.
It's the bad human in him that's making him avoid him.
If you owe someone money, have a solid plan to pay back. And if that plan fails, always hit the person up first and with sincere moves to pays like giving parts payments.
The creditor will see your sincere desire to pay. Thus won't be too angry than ghosting him. He might even extend the payment period or forgone the loan or even ask further where you are experiencing difficulty with the mindset to help or connect you.
But some people are just evil

Lenders please pray never to be in the position of helpless borrowers or righteous debtors(willing but unable to cos os circumstances beyond their control). It's easy to stand hear and grandstand cos you are fortunate to have financial advantage.
N.B-Not supporting borrowing and refusing to pay which is sin.

When it comes to finances, only lend or give money you are prepared to lose. Even banks operate with a contingency plan in case a borrower defaults. Always prepare for the worst so you don't ruin valuable relationships over money, focus on the future, where far more important gains lie.

I know your situation well, my friend.
The sad truth is that some people are only here to use, and they have an entitled mindset. Once a user realises that they can use you for money, they will not stop, they will only ask for more and more. It is best to get out of such "friendships" while you still can. sad
