They worked themselves to death.

Because Whites didn't beg anyone to come there to overwork

By the way it also happens in Africa. There are different levels to poverty. The average Nairaland user just doesn't know the overworked to death type of poverty in Africa.

Anything that I need are here...if not for bad government what would make Nigerians travel abroad working tirelessly without sleeping, taking slaps and kicks from those aged sick patients.
“IF” contradicts every point you've made.

.....too many honestly. I've been following the trend since a younger brother & his wife relocated to UK 3 years ago. And he kept on complaining about the work load and the stress he is passing through.

It's an epidemic for them there but the high cost of living and the allure of the pounds sterling won't let them take it easy

Worked in Ethiopia as an expat.

Yes weather is almost European, but can be brutally cold. On my 3rd night I almost died because I underestimated it.

Girls are super beautiful though mostly commercial. The average Naija babe no even dey the level of their ugliest ones.

Rent is ridiculously high. I was paying as much as $2000 monthly. Colleagues on 2500

Many of them spy on you. Your driver's and cooks are loyal only to the Government. English is spoken but Amharic their local language is supreme. You see many so called educated unable to speak English.

Food is shiity. I hear am. Hate their injera - widely eaten sour garri like stuff.

Quite unfortunate. I personally knew the young Ghanaian nurse and was shocked by the news of his passing. A friend also just lost her husband in Manchester a month ago and they are literally trying to crowdfund to enable them meet the financial cost of moving his corpse back home. One would then wonder what exactly is the essence.

Make na sha take am easy. That extra pounds no worth your dear life.

Get Rich or Die Trying. But make it legally.

Those who are showing fake pity are the same one who will mock you if you don’t succeed
So being rich is only building mansions and buying cars like the abroad people think and work themselves to death?

I have a childhood friend who runs a small provision store. His wife sells kpomo on a medium scale. Two bedroom bungalow (toilet, bathroom and kitchen are outside separate from the bungalow). They share one motorcycle. Run a small poultry and fishery. Four kids in medium nice schools. Happiest couple I’ve seen.

This couple is capable of pulling at least 10 million naira from their businesses and still be okay. Define rich again.

People living abroad should not kill themselves for their family in Nigeria, if you die they will just cry for a while, and life goes ON
Giving testimony for getting the 3rd job is note life.
Why are they always carrying this negative news especially about UK. Quite very many Nigerians are doing well, doing 9 to 5 jobs, occupying big positions, finished paying their mortgage, send their children to world class University. Coming abroad need patience and hard work. We may all start as security guards, cleaners or kitchen porter but the stuff you are made off will determine where you will end up. If you go abroad, you don't live anyhow like drinking, carrying women or living dishonest life. That is the only way to make it there.

Well then. Night shift does not kill anyone. You will have health problems if you do not take care of yourself. Lack of a healthy work-life balance situation kill such people who do not know how to manage themselves, not night shift.

As you make your bed. . . . So shall you lie on it even in the grave.

I loooooooove my night shift o! Cannot stand day shift. I dey sleeeeeeeep wellllllah any time of the day.

You must manage your body and mind. If you fail, you die. Simple.

For someone like me, sleep is very important, I think its important for everyone, even if they think they can go without it, they better rest and take time to relax. So they can enjoy whatever they are building.

People should stop asking people abroad for money all the time, instead they should advise them to save and build their life and rest.

I no dey like put mouth for this abroad matter, it is up to anyone to find opportunities anywhere they feel they can get it

In doing so, don't let peer pressure make you do what's not your destiny, abroad is not for everyone

If you find yourself there, take life easy. stop trying to impress people who don't care about you

Taking a mortgage and car loan few months of just getting to abroad is not wisdom, it is foolishness

If you are over 40, don't take more than two short shifts within a 24 hour period

Two 6–8-hour shifts are enough, use the remaining 8- 10 hours to sleep

above all, always pray to God and check your blood pressure daily if you are above 35 years

It could be hard living abroad without proper planning. Here there is nothing like miracle money. But again a lot of people are weathering the storm. My respect to the man, he tried his best. RIP.
