Timing Belt On 2009 Acura Mdx by justiniyke29(op): 11:27am On Oct 22
I have a 2009 acura mdx with 148k miles showing on the odometer (not sure if it wasnt rolled back), i have been driving it for a while now and i was wondering if it is time to change the timing belt.
Note its not giving me any issue but there is no way for me to tell its age and condition. I also read that its an interference engine so any cut will probably ruin the engine. Also i am worried about buying a fake belt if i do decide to change it

Don't you know anyone in the USA ?Its a good idea to do preventative maintenance, contact radautos on here, they can help you out when it come s to genuine parts. Whilst you are there take advantage to change both water pump and oil pump so you know you do not have to do it again in the next 100k miles.

If it doesn’t spoil don’t repair it.

Honda is not Toyota that’s known for belt issue.

It’s abnormal for belt to cut. There most br underlining issues

Have the same car and same 2009 and I've been so worried about the belt since I bought it dis year January with 122,648 Miles on it but I can bet it that most of the belt in Nigeria will be fake and If I should get it on Amazon it'll be around 500k and I've thinking maybe i should go for it on amazon or just leave it for now...

you can get new or toks.

Belt especially for Honda doesn't just like that. There us a serious problem with misaligment...

If your belt is still strong leave it

You gave two wrong advice there, there is nothing like i f you belt is still strong, this is an item that wears with mileage, if it has done above 100K miles there is no need leaving it, change it straight away cos if it snaps, since its an interfering Engine, you will spend 10 times that mo ney to fix the problem.
Buying a used one what? what's wrong with you guys? If its not a serviceable part than by all means buy a use one but if its a serviceable part like belt bearings etc why buy a used one which might even be older than the one you are changing not being rude here bross change this mentality. Also where this part is located is not where you want to open more than 3 times in the entire life of the car.

First you have to educate yourself why belt cut before responding to me.

Before a belt get to the stage to cut you will know when you examine the belt.

A genuine belt can serve the life of that vehicle. Manufacturer stating 100k miles doesn't mean it expires or it's not good again. The same thing is applicable to tyre.

Most uses tyre can still go for years.

When their is bad bearing or bent pulley those are misaligment that stress the belt and cause heat and friction even if you put q new belt. Bad alternator or compressor.

Like as I said before belt cutting is not a Honda thing but Toyota. He might be migrating from a Toyota and experience that belt issue reasons he is scared.

If he still think he want to remove OEM belt for new one he can proceed. But he might be setting himself up. Reasons I said if it's not broken don't fix it. First exemine the belt. If the engine will cut the belt that is still balanced the same engine will cut a new belt.

That is my take.

Bro this is not a competition of measuring dyck. you do not need to wait for your belt to cut B4 you change it,just as you do not need your Engine to pack up B4 you change the oil, Changing your belt is done at every 100K miles i n any car, if you dont, you run the risk of your belt snapping, watch word RISKSo if you are willing to take the risk by all means do but when it snaps, you would be regretting. You saying you timing belt is not your fan belt and there is nowhere anyone says it last for the entire life of the vehicle not even timing chain does that, as it stand in the Uk most MOT place will not do your MOT if your belt has not been changed since 100K miles meaning you cannot insure your car. You are mean to change your timing belt between 60 to 100k miles depend on your driving.
And about tyres dont even start me huh huh and where they are located on the tyre? huh huh huh,Do you know what tyre wear Indicators are huh
Best practice is change Timing Belt and water pump same time,In the US the cost of these kits are less than 191 Dollars https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284766517784?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-153316-527457-8&mkcid=2&itemid=284766517784&targetid=4584757338550457&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=41471&poi=&campaignid=431353847&mkgroupid=1298523655396099&rlsatarget=pla-4584757338550457&abcId=9301942&merchantid=87779&msclkid=81f93ad3e9c617ad228c500f2c74305b.
The timing belt is one of the most critical components in your vehicle's engine, synchronizing the rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft to ensure proper valve timing. Unlike timing chains, which are made of metal and can last the lifetime of the engine, timing belts are typically made of rubber and reinforced with fiber cords, making them susceptible to wear and eventual failure.

A failed timing belt can cause catastrophic engine damage, particularly in interference engines where the pistons and valves occupy the same space at different times. When the belt snaps, the camshaft stops turning, leaving some valves in the open position. As the crankshaft continues to rotate, the pistons can collide with the open valves, bending them and potentially damaging the piston heads, cylinder walls, and other internal components. The cost of repairing this damage often exceeds $3,000, making preventive replacement a far more economical choice.

Manufacturers provide recommended replacement intervals, typically between 60,000 and 105,000 miles, but these are general guidelines. Actual replacement needs depend on various factors including vehicle age, driving conditions, belt material, and engine type. This calculator helps you determine a more personalized replacement schedule based on your specific circumstances.

Same fear i am having, most kazeem will tell you to leave it since it hasnt cut or will recommend used belt (cant imagine using a used belt of unknown mileage on the car)

Your engine is an interference engine, there are sellers here that stock genuine OEM and very good aftermarket belts. In whatever you do change the water pump, all rollers, idlers (even if they're good) and oil seals.

Thank you.
