I wanted to cook some food with this but haven't seen it before. Is it eatable or poisonous? To be honest, I've used some of it to whip one wicked jollof rice.

This looks like the leaf we call "Hospital Too Far" in Benin - no, the name doesn't mean it's dangerous - I still wonder why it was thus named - when it first became popular, some people claimed it gives blood. I'm not approving the consumption of this one unless you're sure sha 😝

Meanwhile, na adventure our forefathers take discover all the edibles we eat today na. If you no kpeme after eating it, give am name 😏

That's vegetable nah. Yoruba people call it EFO IYANA IPAJA.

That leaf you are seeing is in hot demand amongst the elderly rich people in ikoyi due to its abilities to control blood sugar and blood pressure

It's called Iyana Ipaja in Lagos. It's used as vegetable. While cutting the leaves you have to be careful so that the whitish sap will not get to your skin. If it does, you will feel a burning sensation on your skin for about an hour

More than a vegetable.
So nourishing, so healthy, rich in vitamins and minerals.
Enriches and builds blood.

Can be used the way all vegetables are used.
Use for egusi soup, used for porridge yam, use for okro soup, fry and use on rice.
Only be careful with the sap, it itches a lot when it touches the skin.

A friend shocked me one day as he plucked a leaf before me and ate it raw.

"Hospital too far" chewed raw ?
As medicinal as it is,this thing traumatized me.

My mom washed the juice out and mixed with Malt,I had a scratching throat for days.
I don't go close to the part where the leaf is.

It's medicinal but not advisable.

Iyanapaja or hospital-too-far, my favorite vegetable. I eat this literally everyday and with everything possible.
Sauce and egunsi soup.

Yummy

My only problem is that, it spreads and grows just too fast.

Don't mind these clickbait guys. This is one of the malaise we face in this country. You already knew it is edible or had seen someone eating it before, you went ahead and cooked it, ate it , then later came around to be ask phulish question.
