One mistake I see people make is starting the Canada immigration process by paying for IELTS, WES or other services before establishing what their profile actually requires.

Before spending money, take time to check these five areas.

1. Your occupation

Your job title alone does not determine your National Occupational Classification (NOC). The actual duties you perform must correspond to the occupation you intend to claim.

2. Your language level

Different immigration programs have different language requirements. The minimum required for eligibility may also differ from the score needed to improve your ranking.

3. Your educational credentials

Find out whether an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is necessary for your intended pathway and what qualification you need assessed.

4. Your age and points

Age can affect your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Calculate your current position rather than relying on what someone with a different profile achieved.

5. Your actual immigration pathway

Being eligible for a program does not automatically mean you have a competitive profile or a realistic route to an invitation.

The sensible approach is to establish what applies to your circumstances first, identify the gaps, and then decide which steps deserve your money.

Really? But UK naigrerians de enjoy, many of dem dey drive new cars and even buy houses the first 6 months of arriving in the UK. Some of them say dem dey earn £4000 a month

You Nigerians are unapologetically badmouthed.

The idea of a Western passport is alluring, but the hurdles are not small either. Many have fallen on the journey. Others are thriving in an amazing way - and legitimately so. Others are giving an appearance of "All is well" but they know it's not. While some have resorted to unscrupulous activities.

The most important advice: look before you leap. Do your research (plenty stories all over social media - hear what's said and what's not). Let no one sell you some fantasy. Understand the worst-case scenario. Prepare for your success the best way you can.
