Some have the erroneous notion that once you are saved, you are eternally secured no matter what you do.
And that those who left the faith were those who were not really saved.

But that is not what the Apostles taught, and it can never be what the Lord Himself taught.

Let’s go to 2 Peter 2:20
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

Let’s analyse that statement in the mirror of your good a conscience and not in the view of a supposed elevated and known MOG.

FOR IF AFTER THEY HAVE ESCAPED THE POLLUTIONS OF THE WORLD THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST
It is written in Isaiah 53:11, Through his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
So the saved are those who have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of that righteous servant - Christ Jesus, given for iniquities.

THEY ARE AGAIN ENTANGLED THEREIN, AND OVERCOME
They ( the saved, the justified, the forgiven, the purged from sins ) are again gone back to the filth that the Lord cleansed them from; the filth the Lord forgave them of.
They are there living the life of the world with such bravado and gusto, the life they once thanked God for saving them from.
Don’t misunderstand me, If you sin, and you acknowledge your wrong to repent, you will be forgiven and cleansed. But if you continue to sin and live that life of filth, thinking all you needed to do to be saved is just to believe in Jesus, and go about and live the way you lived before you met Him; you are in condemnation.

THE LATTER END IS WORSE WITH THEM THAN THE BEGINNING
The end of those people if they do not repent, though in Christ Jesus, will be worse than those who were never saved in the first place.

Apostle Peter still is reiterating what the Lord said in Matthew, that many would say they followed Him, acknowledging Him as Lord, and even did feat in His name.
But He would tell them, I never knew you, depart from me; for you were never saved.
No.
Depart from me, you workers of iniquity.

Don't mind those people. They love lies and delusions.

How is this erroneous?
Those who were once in the Faith were saved at the time they were in the Faith. But the moment they left the Faith they lost their salvation.
Is this difficult to understand?
But that is not what the Apostles taught, and it can never be what the Lord Himself taught.
just say you didn't understand what the apostles thought

your analysis are wrong and are the reasons why African Christians are backward.
The scripture you quoted has nothing to do with living the life of sin.
It says if you once accept the gospel of Christ and later reject that gospel, then you have lost your salvation and it will be difficult for you to come back to Christ.

It didn't say if you sin, then you have lost your salvation.

By the way, who does not commit sin in this life?

2 PETER 2:21
so you see, it has nothing to do with sin. Rather, lost of salvation is lost of Faith in Christ.

So once saved is forever saved!
Except on the condition that the person lost his faith in Christ.

John 3:16 ...whosever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

So your salvation is eternal, Forever.
No end
