The Federal Government has approved a N70,000 monthly transport intervention for public service workers across all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026, to cushion the impact of rising living costs.

The approval was one of the resolutions reached at a conciliation meeting between the Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja on Tuesday, following renewed pressure from organised labour over the rising cost of living, workers’ welfare and outstanding agreements.

The government also approved the payment of peculiar allowance arrears, effective from May 1, 2026, in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.

However, the meeting ended without an agreement on the effective date for implementing the national minimum wage.

Both parties agreed that the Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee would be constituted and commence meetings immediately to address the outstanding issue.

What about people who are not govt workers? The percentage of people working for government is less than 20 percent of the Nigerian population.

Useless stuff. Will they give self employed money too? This has no tangible effect on the society. Nigeria informal sector dominates the country and that is the sector the govt fought hard to include in tax coverage but has nothing, absolute nothing for the sector. And they are largest in the country. So, 70k for 6 months as election gets closer is bribery and actually has no effect. A true effect is return the economy to it state before this yeye man came to powerr so that Nigerians irrespective of where u work or self employed can regain their purchasing power back.

If Not That NLC Leadership is Corrupt ,Dubious And Fraudulent And Dead To The Nigerian Workers , This is The Best Time to Ask For 500k Minimum Wage As Presidential Election Approaches

So what about me? I am not a civil servant. How does this affect me, along with over 1000 people I know that don't work in public offices?
