Hello House,I recently stocked my earthen pond precisely last week with 1500 juveniles.I made sure I disinfect d pond before stocking. The problem now is that I'm recording at least 3-5 deaths per day. Please advice on the way out of this mess.

The illness was as a result of change of environment majorly caused by water. You need to drain the water in the pond with d aid of water pumping machine. Get salt, ashes and NCO mixed them together after which you sprinkle them in the pond in such a way that it will spread all over the pond. After doing that, stop feeding them for at least 2 days.



Above all, what kind of feed are they eating now ? Local or floating feeds ?

Try and get a cup of the feed, put small veg. Oil then mix with oxy or nco. Allow it to dry and give them to eat.

Hi, u can start with a thousand fish,of which u can feed them comfortably till maturity with the available facility..After your first harvest u can increase your stocking...

Hello, there are different feeds with different prices...There is no 1.8 mm its only 1.5mm.. Coppens 1.5mm is #3200 for 5kg and 2mm sells for #5200..
Zeigler 2mm is #4500, while vital 2mm is #3900..
Note prices varies.

Concerning the average cost of feeding, I usually peg it down to #150 for each fish to maturity... 500 multiply by 150 = #75,000.. So u will need at least75k to take them all the way to maturity..No cut corners..prices can rise over time.. God bless

Hello, if u want to correct the PH of your water for hatching, the water should be left in the tank not in the pond for 24hours prior to hatching...
By leaving it for that stipulated time the PH will normalise, but u still have to check after the 24hours with a PH meter if it has normalise because sometimes it does not gurantee normality...

BENEFITS OF BIO-DISC IN CATFISH FARMING..

Am sure most of you would have heard of BIO-DISC and its benefits in fish farming and also in improving our health...
Fish farming has gone very scientific with a lot of accessories and gadget available presently and bio disc is amongst them, and truthfully speaking one has to use some of theses gadget before making a comment on them..

Bio disc is a device that cut across different industries in the world.. Bio disc on its own generate scaler energy continously on its surface... As this scaler energy is produced it rejuvenate the molecular structure of any liquid that is passed through the surface of the bio disc.

Fish farmers who uses biodisc can testify of its importance and how they make fish grow faster and good immunity to fight any disease that comes there way... Its not only in fish farming bio disc is used, it is also used in poultry,piggery etc...

That was what I said, it will normalise but not in all cases, u still have to check the PH to see if its normal..

Sometime last year a guy introduced the bio disc to me and told me about its numerous benefit but I declined.. After much persuation I gave it a try and it has been outstanding since then.. I don't get casualties as such,my fishes are always very active and smart, and they grow faster..

Aslo in the hatchery the importance of Bio disc cannot be over emphasised... Anytime I hacth almost 90% of the eggs hatch, and the mortality rate is very low, they are always active from day one... I get over 60k fries just from a single female fish alone and the survival rate is tremendous... My students can testify of this..

I employ fish farmers who have the capacity to get a bio disc to purchase one and see its numerous benefits and have a bumper harvest.. God bless

I use ziegler for the first three months then I switch to vital feed for the rest two months...
From juvenile you should harvest at 4months..

It depends on the size of the juvenile..Some hatchery sell post fingerlings as juvenile.. But a standard juvenile should be able to pick 3mm comfortably... So I think u should give them 3mm to ascertain if they will pick it, if they struggle in picking the 3mm then u should give 2mm...

Feed size should be changed when the mouth of the fishes get bigger considering the size of the feed...

Start with 2mm coppens. There is no specific time to change to another size. Be rest assured that 2mm coppens is richer than any other mm. Thus, u can continue feeding them with 2mm pending the time you change to local feeds. NB: their mouth will judge when to change to another mm. Hope that helps ?
