Mad_Max: Hi ybab,
Two peels. Neither's the 20% Salicylic acid peel, but I guess 15% ought to work. 20% pure Salicylic peel can be used twice a week on the skin; it's perfectly safe. Yours is combined with lactic acid (sour milk) so I don't know. I guess you'll follow the instructions that come with it on usage. Getting rid of acne's a simple thing. Don't use both peels at the same time because you think you'll get quicker results that way. Not so. Your skin needs time to heal and breathe between treatments; it's a delicate organ.

Use the salicylic peel first. The other one can be your weekly peel after the acne's gone. And don't be misled by the word 'acid'. Lactic acid is just sour milk, glycolic acid is got from sugarcane. I've never used AHA/BHA Chemical peel, but it should be all right. I use Glycolic acid or lactic acid peels once a week and vouch for those.

You can moisturise with Olay regenerist twice daily. Neutrogena products don't clog pores, but I don't know if there are additives in their cleanser. Just incorporate pure soap into your cleansing regime and the occasional cleansers shouldn't matter .

How on earth can these moisturisers leave your face with dark patches? I don't get that part. They're just excellent facial moisturisers, nothing more. They're what I use. If you're using Olay regenerist as a day cream, try Derma E Hyaluronic acid night creme. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in healthy skin and foods that contain it are great for skin.

Please where can I get these peels in lagos, thank you very much.

How bad is your acne that you need 20% salicylic acid peel?
Usually those who have pimple mountains on their face have their doctors prescribe those to them. You don't want to run the risk of over medicating yourself and end up with a worse problem.
Based on my experience 2% is good enough for most acne problems when used properly and regularly. For those with sensitive skin, Benzoyl peroxide 10% is very effective when used properly.
Using it a 3/4 step program for non sensitive skin:
with 2% Salicylic Acid -
1) Facial Wash/Cleanser, 2) Astringent or Toner, 3) Daily Acne Lotion and/or for the random larger pimple breakout problem use 4) Target Blemish Action Gel

Sensitive Skin:
10% Benzoyl Peroxide Facial Wash
2 % Salicylic Acid Astringent or Use facial toner or astringent with Witch Hazel
10% Acne Clearing Gel or lotion

Use these daily, morning and night and you should see visible results after 2 weeks. Once you have your acne under control, you can just use the facial wash and astringent + oil free facial moisturizer daily (facial lightening cream are usually oil free). For those concerned with their lightening products interfering with the skin clearing process, make sure your facial lightening product is oil free and you can make use of it at night instead of using acne facial cream instead.

And whenever you have a bad breakout, use Concentrated blemish gel or similar to clear your skin and that helps.

Salicylic Acid is most common for most brands, if you find it doesn't work for you or if your skin reacts badly to it, switch to 10% benzoyl Peroxide.

Good luck! Check out www.iyaoloja.com for items that would help with this.

If your skin is acne prone, you should always use Acne Wash and Astringent night and day to help prevent future pimple problems. As for the spot, Black Opal's Essential Fade Complex does a pretty good job of clearing up spots (https://www.iyaoloja.com/shop/pharmacy-health-beauty/skincare/essential-fade-complex-detail) This is good for those who have really bad spots.

it'll be easier to help you if you can post a image of your problem here: https://www.iyaoloja.com/social/groups/viewdiscussion/1-what-should-i-use-for-my-skin?groupid=2
Then I will be able to give you a proper response.

Most of our customers who have intense spot problems use the Fade gel on the isolated area only.
For those who have scattered tiny spots in odd places, they use Xtreme Brite Spot Remover (https://www.iyaoloja.com/shop/pharmacy-health-beauty/skincare/acne-spots-remover-1-76oz-detail) or
A more expensive one is Clinique's Spot Remover
https://www.iyaoloja.com/shop/pharmacy-health-beauty/skincare/even-better-clinical-dark-spot-corrector-1oz-detail

I had terrible acne and back-acne while growing up and still have some scars but they look like light freckles now.I noticed that the deeper scars caused by picking the zits take a longer time to fade than the surface ones.

I have really oily skin with dryer patches on my cheeks.

These are the products I used that worked really well.

1. Oxy10 / Clearex 10 ...they contain 10% Benzoyl Peroxide which is antibacterial (against P. acnes) and anti inflammatory and the good thing is that they have longer lasting antibacterial action than most OTC antibacterial cream.

2. A gentle face wash with Salicylic Acid. Neutrogena Soap Free cleanser works really well. This should be the soap/cleanser for washing your face morning and night.
P.S. Always was your face at night! It leads to clearer skin by morning.
If you have back acne like I did, Neutrogena Body Scrub with Salicylic Acid was the bomb.

3. Once a week or biweekly facials is also necessary but be careful of the spas you go to....sometimes they make issues worse especially if you have sensitive skin like I did.
I had to start at home facials after much research!
Here's the facial regimen that worked for me.
- First I wash my face with warm water and soap free cleanser.

- Then I apply a mix of rosemary oil and aloe vera to my face, then steam for 15 mins and rinse with warm water.

- Then I scrub my skin in circular motions using smooth blend rosemary leaves...about a table spoon full.
Some days I scrub with equal parts of sugar and salt mixed with olive oil in a paste.

- Then rinse off with warm water.

- Then I apply an oatmeal mask (to soothe my skin and draw out oil).
Some days it's a bentonite clay mask (draws out oil and toxins)
Some days it's a lactic acid peel mask ( removes dead skin cells and brightens complexion)
Some days it's a honey mask (nourishes and brightens)
You can change it up week by week.

- I rinse off the mask with tepid water, then tone my skin with a mix of water and Apple cider vinegar. Start with a 3:1 concentration.
3 tablespoon of water to one table spoon ACV.

The recipes are on my blog www.nappilynigeriangirl..com

Another thing is to avoid moisturisers containing ingredients such as petrolatum, mineral oil, lanolin. I notice breakouts when I use lotions with these ingredients.
Non oily moisturisers are your best bet.
I'm using St. Ives Naturally Smooth Lotion with AHA. Yes to Carrots range are really good too but harder to find in Nigeria. However, I recently discovered that www.TwentySix85.com stock it.

Hope this helps.

I got my peel from a Salon/Spa somehwere in Ajah, it was just a coincidence because I was in lagos briefly and went in there to do my nails and I saw it.
The bottle is quite small for the price but no complaints because the stuff works like crazy. I think I should be doing this peel more often.

I used it every night for one week by the second week my face was glowing,no pimples, no spots, and the sun burn I got from that harsh abj sun had disappeared. The bottle is finished ,but my regular cream is what am using now and my face is still glowing
This is what Chemical Peels do for you ,they get rid of dead skin cells to allow your facial products to work well on you.
I might be getting another one whenever I go back to lagos.

Good post on your skincare routine @nappily

Here's my tidbit.

Step 1 - Facial Wash. For those with extra sensitive skin, use on with Benzoyl Peroxide. Although, based on experience, clients with sensitive tend to use Black Opal's blemish wash or Neutrogena Acne Wash and find it works for them. Of all the blemish wash we get great feedback from, Black Opal's Blemish Bar is a winner for many of its users.

Step 2 - Astringent or Toner. Most people complain about it's over drying effect on the skin, which is not good. In some cases, when the skin gets over dried, it reacts by creating even extra oil, and that is something you want to avoid in the first place. Generally, brands targeting acne/blemish clearing almost always have 0.9 - 2% salicylic acid in the astringent + alcohol denat. From experience, the products that also contain glycerine or Witch Hazel get better results from the skin. Sadly, not many brands use Witch Hazel in their astringent, the only one that I can think of is Black Opal's pore minimizing toner. Oxy's cleansing pads are also quite good and Kuddy Cosmetics also has a good oil control toner + lightening ingredient.

Step 3 - Anti- Acne. Benzoyl Peroxide (Oxy, Oxy 10 etc) is great for those with sensitive skin and works well to clear out acne and spots.
For those who have tested acne lotion with 2% salicylic acid (Black Opal, Mary Kay, Clean and Clear, Neutrogena etc) and found that it did not work, Benzoyl Peroxide is a good alternative. And if Benzoyl does not work, then 2% Salicylic.

Step 4 - Targeted Gel. These get used when there's a break out problem and you have large pimples on the skin. The target blemish gel, usually Salicylic acid, gets applied on remote areas only. And preferable at night. The targeted blemish gel are to be used for emergency situations, not daily usage. In my case, it gets the job done within 48hours max. Black Opal, Mary Kay, Neutrogena, Clean & Clear, have gels that help.

Over all, the brands are not really what should be focused on, simply the ingredients. In the skincare industry, a lot of the brands copy each other...everything else is just marketing.

uzoo:

have you tried using Neutrogen Anti Wrinkle/Anti Blemish cream with retinol and Salysic acid.
( its a tiny tube ) works wonders day and night ... but you need to get a facial scrub to use 2 or 3 times a week to get rid of
deaad skin before using it and then try to use a sunblock ( say spf 30 plus) on your face after applying the neautrogena for day time.

Good luck !
does neutrogena lighten the skin?
