Why Have Snakes Not Gone On Extinction? by Agrika(op): 10:59am On Dec 12, 2013

Snakes are more or less one of the most hated and feared animals on earth....most times they are considered dangerous and killed on sight (i.e if the person get d liver oo) ....upon all these "persecutions" u still find a large population of snakes around us..so am kinda wondering, why have they not gone on extinction?

Well its technically impossible for animals that lays egg to go into extinction cos they have a large number of offsprings

Not true.

Most Dinosaurs, if not all, were actually egg laying reptiles, yet that didn't save them from extinction.

Seee, snakes have very good defence mechanism, and great survival instinct. Their shyness also helps keep them hidden. They have very few preditors who can successfuLly prey on them. And when the meet such, they avoid them when they can. They are sleek and don't neet too big a cravice to hide. They birth multiple young that need little or no parental guidians... A venoumous baby snake is equiped with venoms from birth and are even more venomous than the adult. Some are known to have killed adult stakes that hand too much around the egg site.
Many have developed unique camoflage. And move only in conditions that favours their colour. Eg. The black mamba hunts only at night(dark) and one can only notice when you seee light reflect of their sleek scales. And finally,
Tthere are conservation societies dedicated to the preservation of sbake species....

yea u are right and thats why i said technicali they (dinosaurs) wouldnt hav gone extinct jst like that if not for the rate at which they died.(In large numbers)Hence they didnt have enough time to reproduce again
