I went to a bookshop few months ago and someone introduced the book, The Da Vinci Code to me. Been a lover of suspense and thriller novels, I had no choice than 2 buy the book for a whopping sum of 1,500 Naira.

The crazy part of this what what the dubious book was concocted with. In it (with surprisingly believable evidences ) were references claiming these facts.

1 - That Jesus Christ was not the son of God
2 - That he had a wife ( professed to be Mary Magdalene)which he had sexual relations with and the had kids.
3 - That his heirs have lived on after his death and can be traced to France.

And a lot more others that I can't say here. After reading the whole book (which I was tempted to; mind you the story line was as hot as hell, suspense filled) I wanted to watch the movie.Well I don satisfy my curiosity and so far my conclusions are :

The 'Da Vinci Code' is an attempt by forces of evil to smear the forces of light. It is a grand plan to sow seed of doubt in uncertain minds. The tactics is to grab those who are lukewarm christian and arm them with seed of doubt thereby preventing them from reaching the light. The longer objective is to create more candidates for hell.

I have watch documentaries on Discovery Channel, National Geography, and History Channel and all revealed the conspiracy theories behind the books that led to the movies. They were all based on lies and fabrications.

The Dan Vinci Code is for agnostics, atheists, and those who don't believe in the christian faith. That book is not good for weak Christians. I need anyone who have read this book, watch the movie or willing to join this discussion.

the book got me thinking but the worst thing to happen to me at my age is to start reversing my faith.

I read the book years ago. I can't believe you're just hearing about it. There was a lot of noise about it, especially from the Catholic Church.

Dan Brown did hi research, and wrote his novel. however wrong you may deem his research to be, at least give him credit for a work of pure genius.

If nothing else, the book forced us to keep an open mind about some things we believe.
As somebody said, read the book, appreciate its entertainment value and move on.

In my opinion, Dan Brown is just pure genius. I have read other of his books and I appreciate his work and his creativity and as he clearly stated, The Da Vinci Code a work of fiction and any novel which has such a capacity to produce such a blast of discussion from all corners is FANTASTIC!!!!

I have been disappointed by some hyped books in my time but this one took the piss.

There is more creativity in a Nancy Drew Mystery than this ridiculously overblown book.

The least you can do is try to show some objectivity, uniformity and transparency in your dealings and rules. It seems to me that things on Nairaland seem weighted in favour of the Muslim users.

Its a fact, one of the fellows responsible for a recent threat is even a well known member here. The religion threads have once been removed entirely, islamic sections have been created twice before, christians have been summarily banned for months (including my humble self) for posting on "islamic threads". . .

So why the heck was my post demoted to the "Islam for Muslims" section? Though it relates to their beloved Mohammed and his fanatical devotees, it is about a book. Moreover, the last time I checked, I was still not a muslim.

"The DaVinci Code" is a novel, nothing more. Like many "alternative history" novels, it takes something that happened, twists it, and follows an alternative chain of events - but in this case does it in the style of a thriller rather than a historical novel.

Yes, it was bound to upset some genuinely religious people. And yes, I don't feel - having read it thoroughly - that it's the greatest thriller ever written, or that some of his hypotheses are believable. Yet, I don't feel that it did anything to detract from the Christian message or really cast any doubt on who Jesus was or, in fact, that it is likely to cause anyone's belief to waver or to prevent anyone believing who is not yet a believer. If anything, quite the opposite. It leaves so many questions unanswered that, in my opinion, it is far more likely to attract people to find out more about Christianity than to drive them away from it. It might be seen as an attack on some facets of the Church, but no more than that, (and there aren't too many people who would argue that there aren't SOME facets of SOME of the flavors of Christian church religion that need reforming - as they have needed for centuries).

More interesting, yet with some similarities and, no doubt, equally controversial if not more so, is a new novel by Sean Brandywine called "Project J". It's not yet published - I have an advance copy. Look out for it over the next few weeks. I'm told it's likely to appear as an ebook first and then in print a few weeks later. It goes further, I think, in trying to separate what Jesus intended and what was later attributed to Him. Some is, of course, no more than fiction by the author, but much of it is solidly based on research, on the Bible, and, I'd venture to suggest, on a solid understanding of Christian values. Anyway, without giving away too much of the story, I think it would be fair to say that it goes much further than "The DaVinci Code" in looking at Jesus' life and the areas of it that are not described to us in the Gospels - both from the author's imagination or inspiration (or his Faith?), and from factual evidence. It's bound to upset some people. For others, it's a truly moving story. It's also a very good read... .

i think christains are to blam..they have not come up with any new information since revelation was written. has God stopprd talking to man?..why did they close the canon?
