You are right bro but gone are those days as far as federal universities are concerned. Of a truth there were days when Professors, H.O.D's, Deans do have admission quota/slots. Every professor is entitled to 2 admission slots, same for H.O.D's. there used to be Deans and VC lists but not anymore in federal universities except in pre-degree or part-time programmes. There are general criteria/standard for all federal universities, thanks to NUC. (Some lecturers were abusing that opportunity for money, sex, etc)
I knew Prof A.B. Sofoluwe (Former UNILAG VC that died, may his soul rest in peace, ), through someone that introduced me to him. I was in his office one day when Prof Ibidapo Obe (the then UNILAG VC) came in (they were friends), Prof Sofoluwe introduced me to him and Prof Obe said to me "my boy, there is no DISCRETION again in admission, go and start preparing for next year, i'm sure you will make it if you do what i just told you". I later got in through diploma (now called foundation programme).

The best thing is to meet the cut off for either merit/catchment area, no sweat. I believe and agree with you that nobody gets anything except God permits such but there are also principles of life given by GOD himself. Show me a man that is diligent in his business, he will not stand before mere men...., a labourer is worthy of his wage, faith without work is dead, etc If everybody goes to help them sweep in admission office or department of choice what will become of the already battered education standard and our educational system.

mayojaspa: I applied once at unilorin, had 2:1, I finished from unilorin, I had 64% in their postutme but not offered admission, I was later told chemistry is no longer among the course they consider for medicine. that statement was from the current DVC academics of unilorin.( prof. Olatunji of chemistry department ), so i decided to go through jamb here in ui and now nothing. I also applied through de but pharmacy instead, just hope sth positive will come out of it.
