Explanation before diagram and pictures

In the measurement above the bust line is the biggest in all the circumference measurement so I shall use that for my fabric placed on fold process so I can add seam allowance.

Now to do my fabric placed on fold I will divide that bust 40 into 2 (front block 20 ,back block 20) plus seam allowance 2 inch on the front block and 4 inch on the back block for allowance on the side and zip.

(Front block 22, back block 24) note that the back block will further be divided into two so as to place the zip in the middle.

I also will require my half length so I don't waste fabric also keeping in mind that from my half length I would factor in the peplum part.

Half length is 16. I shall add 1.5 inch for seam on the should joining and waist to peplum joining.

bust apart is actually called bust span and its the distance between the nipples

@ madam efosa words ar not enoff 2 show my gratitude, I av a favor 2 ask , I hope u won't mind explainin dis as u coach us on dis project, I had a lil challenge wit a gown I just made, I was just too slow wit it. D major area I'd like more light to b shed is d armpit area, ow to make d front & back block same after joinin. Thank u

Re: Let's Sew For Fun (**valisimo Fashion School Online Classroom**) by EFOSAVAL(f): 8:48pm On Sep 27, 2014
Ok warding is a fusible fabric used to add weight to they main fabric.its thicker in texture than airstay. Some use it on the whole fabric, I just use it to pad the bust area.

The measurement question.

There is measurement by length ( that measures every thing measured from your shoulder down.) Then there is measurement by circumference (every thing measured round the body on any part.)

That's why there are 2 measurement there.
Pls use this explanation to figure it out.

The bust are has the upper bust ,the bust and the under bust line.u are to measure the length and circumference.

The half length question. Obviously 21 is too long even mine in the measurement I posted I have 16 as my half length. U are not to measure all the way to your navel coz it's a top we are making and not a gown.

The front block has to be divided into three parts and so the I must factor in seam allowance for joining that part.1 inch for each joining that makes 2 inch extra to the 22 for the joining

So I have 24 inch placed on fold for my front block

Now ,I mark out my neck depth and my bust apart is what I use to divide the fabric into 3.

I mark out my upper bust bust and under bust so i cut the bust cut.then I mark out my arm whole

Next is my back.i am using the same 24 by 16 also as my fabric placed on fold not forgetting 1.5 seam allowance too.I shape out my neck and the arm hole area then I use the bust apart measurement in front to get the dart at the back also.next I mark out my zip allowance and seam allowance. At the end this is what I get.

Now that we have cut our front and back blocks its time to cut the peplum circumference

My waist is 37.i fold my fabric into four to cut.i want my peplum to have big pleats so I will cut my waist area to be more than 37 inch in the end.

Hi Valisimo,
You have really been doing a great job here. I have an electric sewing machine which i have tried using but is really complicated wink and the thread keeps cutting, though i am new to sewing. Should i just get a simple butterfly sewing machine for a start?

Thanks

You would have to walk b4 u run.. The thread keeps cutting cos u are yet to understand hw to control the speed, u are pressing the pedal too much ... Its best u get the black head(butterfly or any other they are all same) to understand the speed of a sewing machine..or if u could get some1 to put u through with using the electric and to control the speed u would understand better....
